Finally Upgrading , is 7800X3D that bad for Productivity ? Need Tips and Suggestions.
Posted by CrysioNix@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 13 comments
So im finally upgrading my build after a long time and i need some help. Im mainly building a Gaming PC but im also doing some productivity stuff as a hobby , my question is can the Ryzen 7800X3D handle programs like After Effects , Photoshop , Audacity and DaVinci Resolve on an acceptable level or should i aim for an Intel CPU ? Im reading everywhere that 7800x3D is not recomended for any Editing and i wanna know what you guys think.
This is the build that im going for , any tips and suggestions would be appreciated.
Im not a pro at building PC's so if you guys see something that needs to be changed tell me about it :P
PS. Some parts like the CPU Cooler , Monitor , Case and Power supply are being carried over from my old build. So i'd like to keep the cost between 1500 - 1800 if its possible. I only included them on the list so you guys can tell me how the final build looks.

7800X3D is not recommended for primarily editing and doing productivity when you're making money doing such. There are better CPUs for that.
However, for what you're doing, the 7800X3D is absolutely fine. It's slightly worse in productivity against the 7700X due to lower clocks and v-cache not being leveraged often. However, it's basically a 7700 with underutilized cache, which is still mighty fine for what you're doing.

so does that CPU match Adobes minimum requirements? Because I still can't download After Effects due to my pc being "incompatible", but every other piece of hardware I have *is* compatible.
Cute-Beginning-5389@reddit
first, the 7800x3d is fine for what your dong but alos the motherboard will e better in x670 form (it has more features) and yeah u should be good

I work professionally where at work I have the max studio m2 at the extreme range and I have a PC at home with the 7800x3d. Use case is mainly Adobe and Davinci.
This is the result of a puget bench test for premiere pro for my Pc vs my work one.
The 7800x3d isn’t bad at productivity, it just might not be as fast as some other processors.
The ONLY difference would be that it might take you 5/10 min more to render out a video compared to an intel machine. If literal seconds is crucial for job then go for an intel system, if not… you’ll be perfectly fine with the 7800x3d if you mainly game.
Remember you can always upgrade to a 7950x if you need to which will give you 13700k level of performance for creative apps.

Is it underperforming for Davinci Resolve too? I know that Davinci uses GPU but any difference there with AMD cpu instead of Intel?
tqmirza@reddit
Not for my particular workflow, my home workflow is mostly Davinci but when I render I’m mostly using voukoder pro so that is mostly processor powered as I’m exporting ProRes
SidKillz@reddit
oo, ty for info :)
Am doing all work on Davinci, but still ty for info :D

Are there better CPUs strictly for productivity? Yes!
Is the 7800x3D bad at productivity? No!
lbaw@reddit
yeah, it's a slightly less powerful 7700x for productivity. It still has 8 cores 16 threads. For hobbyists, it will do just fine.
It's not recommended for professionals whose time costs money.
Considering the motherboard, if OP goes professional later, they can drop in, say, a future 8950, 9950, or whatever you fancy then. Op has that option.
About OP build, though, I would do away with the AIO, grab the most recommended air cooler from Gamer Nexus. I'd spend the difference on a nice case like the Fractal North
CheccoTG@reddit
Is time the only factor of those cpus?
lbaw@reddit
if you're get paid for your work, then time is the only thing worth considering. If you don't then there is heat/cooling, power consumption, noise, and other heat related issues. All of those would favour the 7800X3D though

What do you think about RAM? I’d like to edit some 4K 60 fps videos once in two weeks. Is 32gb enough?
