How do you feel about the fact that it rains so often?

I think it's a quite banal question and probably asked multiple times, but is still the interesting one

Beautiful. It keeps the grass green, it allows growing crops, it keeps the reservoirs full. PS I used sometime ago to live in desert , semi arid conditions. The difference is truly life or death!

I’m fine with rain. It’s the wind I don’t like.

Wonderful. I should’ve taken the leap in my younger days. This country is circling the drain rapidly and the weather isn’t helping.

Love it. Would hate to live in a place that is hot and mainly dry. The rain makes the air feel fresh and live the smell when walking in the countryside

1) The difference in rainfall between the wettest and driest part of the UK is 4x, so it really matters where you live. Where I live, in a valley on the E side of the country, it is too dry for the garden to be comfortable. 2) Our 'traditional' weather intersperses rain and shine, whether on alternate days or even alternate hours/ minutes. I find that very convenient, in fact. E.g. dry washing outside and take it in when sky goes dark, e.g. plant stuff in sun and then rain waters it naturally, e.g. make a mess on path frompotting a plant, and the rain will then wash it into the flowerbed.

India has been deathly hot for weeks. Many places in deathly drought. Love the cool drizzle.

Yes I'm glad we haven't been stuck in one of these heat domes that are causing havoc in so many places but I'd absolutely take a few days at 35+ right now.

I don't mind our normal seasonal weather, but the fact that it's so wet and cold in June is really starting to grate.

I realised the other day that I'm still feeling a bit like I'm in limbo, waiting for summer to arrive to start doing 'summer things' only of course to realise we're already there (kinda) and I should be getting on with stuff anyway.
View on Reddit #28584424

MrPatch@reddit

My summer hobby involves an old convertible car, 50 year old windscreen wipers and a tiny cabin make wet driving no fun at all so it doesn't come out if it's raining. Which is pretty annoying when we have wet summers, I spend a bunch of time at the beginning of spring fixing all the shit that needs fixing, pay for tax and then it sits in the garage for 6 months til it's winter again :( With that said I'd prefer a decent amount of summer rain to none, better for the ecosystem than drought of course and I have a garden now too so I get to enjoy tending to that instead.
View on Reddit #28584363

HirsuteHacker@reddit

Generally I don't mind it at all, besides the fact that it makes getting out to do the gardening a pain.
View on Reddit #28583939

strawberrypops@reddit

I like a rainy day, even in the summer. Keeps the temperature down a bit and the plants green. It gets a bit miserable if you actually have to go out in it though.

LondonCycling@reddit

The UK has more dry days than wet days. I don't really mind. And up here in winter we get as much snow as we do rain, and that's ideal for winter scrambling.
View on Reddit #28577214

dwair@reddit

That depends entirely on where you live. The west side of the country is much wetter that the east with almost double the average rainfall in places. Down here in Cornwall we get over a meter of rainfall in an average year compared to 500mm in Cambridge. The west side of the UK also gets more "grey" days with higher cloud coverage so you can go weeks without seeing the sun.

Of course it does. But OP didn't ask about some specific city, they asked about the UK.

I think for June, it's a bit of a piss take. I'm in the north of Scotland and we haven't seen blue sky for about 2 weeks now. It's just constantly overcast and rains every hour. Even on the days it doesn't rain every hour, the threat of it is there all the time. We had some really lovely weather for about 10 days at the end of May. I'm worried that was our summer!

I hate it and find it depressing. I'm a very outdoorsy type person and the UK weather seriously and negatively impacts just about everything I do or want to do. Sure you can wear appropriate clothing which makes being outdoors marginally less shite but you always get the feeling that you are out despite the weather rather than because of it.

Scattered97@reddit

Honestly, I love it. Yes, it can be depressing when it's just days on end of grey drizzle, but I've always found rain to be somewhat comforting in a strange way. I love the fresh smell of it as well - petrichor is the proper name for it. Our green and pleasant land would be nowhere near as green and pleasant without it. Remember the summer where everything turned brown? It was bloody horrible - not just the heat, but the fact that our gorgeous countryside was fucking *brown*. It was depressing and dull. I think a lot of Brits don't realise how lucky we are when it comes to weather. I know we're getting more extremes these days due to climate change, but still - the vast majority of the time it's neither too hot nor too cold. Very rarely do winter temperatures go below freezing (like they would very often if the Gulf Stream didn't exist), and very rarely do summer temperatures go above 30 degrees. We don't get many natural disasters either, other than floods and occasional tornados. Our weather is incredibly mild, and that's how I like it.

Yep. I'll always remember the awful summer a couple of years ago when everything around here was brown for months. Hated it. I like the greenery of the UK, it was really depressing seeing all everything that is usually green and vibrant be brown.

Not really bothered. Here in the south east I don't even feel like it does rain that often. And anyway, I'd prefer that to constant heat and strong sun.

Our climate and weather are the reasons we have such a diverse ecosystem here in the UK so it's great in my opinion. Carrying a "pack a Mac" is a small price to pay for the lush green landscapes we have.

View on Reddit #28577264

bsnimunf@reddit

It makes me a bit miserable and depressed. I always found my mood is often tied to the seasons and weather. I dont think they are the cause of the problem directly but sometimes when I'm constantly getting wet or it stops me from doing and enjoying stuff it just drags me down that bit further. For example I cycle to and from work and having to water proof up and cycle against the horizontal rain rather than a leisurely cycle in a t-shirt or a sunny day grinds on you after a few weeks.
