Nvidia G-sync not showing up

I have a G-Sync display and I'm connected to the Display Port but I don't see that option in Nvidia control panel. My drivers are up to date.
Qazerowl@reddit
You may need to enable Gsync on the monitor itself, first. Kinda dumb, but sometimes it's not set to on by default.
WarframeN00b@reddit (OP)
That helped me, I found an option called "adaptative sync" and I turned it on, now it appears, thank you, no one on the internet said that before.
SuccessfulYogurt6295@reddit
THAT'S IT! On my HP monitor I had to enable "Adaptive sync" from image settings. Only then I could see G-Sync in the Nvidia control panel.
Theman204@reddit
What if it just shows FreeSync on my Monitor? Is that the same as Adaptive Sync? I've tried turning FreeSync on on my monitor but Gsync still won't show up in the NVIDIA Control panel
SuccessfulYogurt6295@reddit
if you ahve a label on the monitor saying that its Freesync Gsync compatible, then you can use Gsync in Nvidia Control Panel. If not, then you have just Freesync for AMD GPUs and can benefit from Freesync only on amd gpus.
Lils4p@reddit
Damn didn't knew abt this..i was so confused that there was no gsync setup option showing up on the control panel and whn i saw this comment i realised my mistake i have a Nvidia gpu and a freesync compatible only monitor...💔 still i guess it isn't bad since I've upgraded from 60hz to 240hz so ig it's still good
Lils4p@reddit
turns out the whole issue was me… my displayport cable was plugged into the motherboard instead of the GPU 😠switched it over, rebooted, and now G-Sync shows up and works perfectly!
Theman204@reddit
Oh really? Ok good to know! Thanks!
dragonhunter_rrr@reddit
where is the adaptive sync im on laptop
StylisHD@reddit
I have an MSI monitor that is supposed to be Gsync enabled. Adaptive sync is already on and Gsync still doesn't show up lol oh well
Key-Emu-5058@reddit
Try turning adaptive sync off and on. For me, the gsync option disappears after every nvidia driver update, and this solves it.
Kexi_x3@reddit
Even 1 year later this comment is a lifesaver :D
EpisodicDoleWhip@reddit
A year late, but this worked for me. Thanks.
TheGreatGastby66@reddit
Samsung Odyssey G5 user here, this worked for me.
sloppybro@reddit
same tbh
thibault120681@reddit
i have a samsung G93SC and i had to turn off Adaptive Sync in the monitor menu itself and then turn it back on ! screen goes black and back on, and GSYNC appears !
tsr2@reddit
Yeah I had a brand new monitor and this fixed it for me, boop
Rxnes-@reddit
BROOOOO i had 2 samsung odyssey g93sc monitor with g sync compatable and one wasn't showing until I turned adaptive sync on and off. LIFE SAVER. you're the GOAT.
GH0ST-404@reddit
The most stupid thing but solved me as well. After hours of frustration found this.. and solved the problem. Geee.. Thanks
redolmqui@reddit
Just adding that this worked for me, turning the feature off and on in the monitor made the option available in the NVIDIA app.
West-Pollution5769@reddit
Where do I find this? I have a MSI monitor
JohnnyBliggaUtah@reddit
Same here, has me scratching my head.
NUTLEY94@reddit
did you work it out ? I'm having the same issue , no e able gsync in Nvidia control panel,, I have a triple monitor setup up configured with Nvidia surround, all monitors are running the same refresh rate, all dp cables , all 3 monitors have gysnc enabled in settings menu, and I still have no gsync options in nvidia control panel, what's funny is I almost can remember having that g-sync setting when I looked a few weeks ago when I was on a single screen cuz I remembered I was going to activate it and it said sorry this display is not gsync compatible which it wasn't, now I just set up triples and everything went pretty smooth everything working a okay except for this g-sync issue I really don't need it everything is running great but I would like to take advantage of it and try it out to see you I like it, if anybody else has any suggestions would be most appreciated if you want to weigh in here thank you for your time
JohnnyBliggaUtah@reddit
Oh, yes I did actually! I bought a higher quality DP cable and boom, works! It was the HDMI cable I was using
CuriousSkirt9712@reddit
also bei mir hat es wie folgt funktioniert, ich habe das powerkabel für 10 sekunden aus meinem monitor gezogen. Damit hat der sich ja rebootet und dann wurde mir gsync wieder angezeigt
JohnnyBliggaUtah@reddit
Your comment has reminded me of this. I just needed a better cable. Now it works.
myheadisrotting@reddit
what kind of cable fixed it? display port?
JohnnyBliggaUtah@reddit
Scratching no more
JohnnyBliggaUtah@reddit
Hey, I actually resolved my problem with this. I swapped out my HDMI for a faster DP cable and now the Nvidia control panel picks up the g-sync. Hope that helps!!
StylisHD@reddit
Thanks for the reply! I'm using an HDMI 2.1 cable, but I'll give DP a try 🤞
JohnnyBliggaUtah@reddit
Make sure it is high speed, 8K+
JohnnyBliggaUtah@reddit
It also opened up the higher refresh rate on my panel as well. Only thing I don't know how to utilize now is the MPRT feature.
aymen_peter2@reddit
did you found a solution?
Wooden-Pomegranate-4@reddit
Same for me, "VRR" though. i know this is 2 years old, but thought it could still help.
Morbid6253@reddit
Nice that was it.. My Oled G9 wasn't even giving me the menu option for Gsync.. Adaptive sync was already on, but turning it off and back on again fixed the issue!
Hopefully others find this lol I was trying to figure this out for the past 2 days.
SaMilVaa@reddit
Thanks a lot!! It worked with my new Samsung Odyssey oled G6
BoostedFiST@reddit
Thank you. Just bought this monitor and couldn't figure it out. (also after two days) idk why I didn't think of this. Cheers.
DorxMacDerp@reddit
Just throwing in a comment that I found your comment after noticing that g-sync didn't work as expected. Thanks!
ThatGuyJacobee@reddit
Same here haha, was so bizarre that it didn't show up until a simple toggle fixed it. Good old "turn it off and on" worked. 😄
dragonhunter_rrr@reddit
where do you find this option?
Orion_Alathorn@reddit
on my asus monitor I had to turn on the "variable refresh rate" option in the osd and g-sync appeared in nvidia control panel. 2 years later and you are still helping people, thank you very much for pointing people in the right direction :)
Chantelle444@reddit
8 months later but thank you!!!
Mammoth_Carpet1586@reddit
Thanks so much. You would've thought that a $700 gaming monitor would have enabled G-Sync out of the box...
Patient-Storm-4304@reddit
Thank you so much! I bought a new montior and GPU but couldn't figure out how to enable G-Sync after updating all the drivers that I can think off. I thought maybe it was false advertising from the monitor manufacturing and I was trying to search online to make sure that I monitor actually has adaptive sync. Then I came across your page and everything works now.
JokesterJoe@reddit
lifesaver, thanks for this comment
beussta@reddit
yeah it's dumb so i'm the king of dumb lol, glad to find this topic here
but one question question u/Qazerowl why when i enable Gsync on my screen it activate "extend screen" by itself and move all my deskstop (deskstop icons and taskbar) on the second screen ?
Qazerowl@reddit
Guessing here, but you probably can't "duplicate" a screen where one of the screens has Gsync on, because that screen is now getting sent a signal with a different refresh rate. And since it's not duplicating the picture anymore, it just has to guess which monitor you want the icons to stay on. You should be able to force it to put your icons on your preferred monitor by going to settings > display > "make this my main display".
beussta@reddit
i understand that but i was in mono screen (i almost never use the 2nd) so why extended screen is activated instead remains in mono screen lol ? i never asked to turn on extend and turn on my 2nd screen
only my main screen is gsync, my second is an old 1080p screen
really weird PC behavior
ps : thx for fast answer on a 2yo topic ;)
VerticalDepth@reddit
This helped me a year later, as this was my problem. Thank you!
Illustrious_Run_6998@reddit
Holy hell I’ve had my monitor for 2 years and just now realized that was the problem. Thanks for this
Lyubb@reddit
THANK YOU SO MUCHHHHHH
dragonhunter_rrr@reddit
how do you do that on laptop?
Wrong_Substance2361@reddit
A year later but you're a hero, thank you so much. I was worrying my monitor was somehow not compatible but it was just me being stupid and not checking this first. It was indeed called "adaptive sync" for me too.
Loose-Ostrich-1901@reddit
There are two types of G-SYNC monitors; one use an NVIDIA G-SYNC module inside and will work with the older GPU's such as the GeForce GTX 970 GPUs. There are also G-SYNC Compatible monitors uses the VESA 1.2A specification for variable refresh rate over DisplayPort. Older graphics cards such as the GeForce GTX 970 does not support DisplayPort 1.2A. Are you using an old graphics card?
NUTLEY94@reddit
Just wanted to leave an update for anybody reading this who's experiencing my same issue, I finally now have g-sync up and running after all the things I had to do and keep trying and still did not have the set up g-sync option in Nvidia control panel it all turned out to be all the computer needed was to be restarted it's actually embarrassing and I'm ashamed that it took me 4 days to realize this but the problem is we tend to forget that just because we shut our computers down everyday that doesn't mean they're necessarily restarting due to the windows fast startup settings basically nowadays when we shut our computers off it's basically just hibernating ,to get your computer to actually restart you need to restart it ,cannot believe I didn't think of it sooner, in my eyes I shut the PC off so I kept thinking I was restarting every night ,not necessarily true, again if you tried everything but you still can't get your g-sync to show up just restart your PC hopefully this will help any others out
eeyaxd@reddit
Jesus christ bro, use punctuation
tiimaaxx@reddit
That's a lot of yapping just to say "I restarted my pc and now I have g-sync
TivG@reddit
I tried to get this working on my laptop for a long time.
What worked in the end is plugging a USBC to DP cable to the USB-C port (but NOT the Thunderbolt 4 slot!), I had a message pop up instantly that a Gsync monitor was detected. Display and Gsync settings also showed up in Nvidia control panel.
Then I found on the laptop's spec sheet (Asus TUF Gaming F17 RTX3070) that Gsync is supproted through the USBC Gen 3.2 slot, but not the Thunderbolt 4 (??). Both do DP though
CyborgSPIKE@reddit
thanks man! i bought hdmi>hdmi. even though it was 8k compatible, with many hz written on the label, did NOT enable gsync. plugged in my usb c > DP and presto! gsync popped up. i accidently bought that cable as well (tired and shopping online dont mix) and thought it was a waste but it did the trick!
dragonhunter_rrr@reddit
DP cable? what is that
TivG@reddit
Display Port cable, an alternative to HDMI (and better as far as I'm aware).
Most modern computer screens (especially gaming ones) have DP port on them.
