EST....did you get it?

This is probably directed at the older Gen X group, have you ever heard of EST? Did you and/or your family get caught up in it?

My mom and dad did a bunch of the seminars. They had money for that, bowling league, Mom’s biorhythm obsession, etc. I wore hand me downs until 15 and didn’t dare ask them to spend money on me. I was with a babysitter at least 3 nights a week until the grandparents noticed and jumped in their grill.

Well at least they didn't drag you into it with them, our parents made all us kids do the weekends, I was 15, my older sister was 17 and yes even my baby sister did a children's version at 7 years old. She, unfortunately, is still drinking that kool aid.

My only recollection of EST was John Candy mentioning it in Stripes.

I had heard of it before back in the 70s, but I did not really know what it was until The Americans.

Thank you. I had not heard of this documentary and it is in YT. I will share the link with my co worker, he might get a kick out of it.

Me too until I ran into an EST graduate when I started a new job 7 years ago. He is on my team and about 2 weeks after I started we were talking about Gen X experiences. He is 6 years older than me so he in a Boomer (61) and I tried to one up him by throwing out "I bet you never heard of EST" to which he responded, "heard of it, I did the weekends in Dallas and even did the 6 day in New York"
