New Cpu, No Display Signal
Posted by InfernyaFenix@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 35 comments
So, I recently acquired a Ryzen 5 5600X as an upgrade from the Ryzen 5 3400G. I unplugged my system, took out the fan and old cpu, installed the new one with its fan, took out the cmos battery for 5 minutes to pet that reset, then put it back in.
When I launched my system again, my monitor just displayed 'No Signal' and nothing happened despite everything running. I tried reinstalling my old cpu and it loads up the bios settings just fine. I tried looking around and nothing helped so I wanted to try asking here directly.
This is the rest of my build, any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Any chance you can help out? I installed a new cpu a 5800x3d on my b450. No display. I updated to the latest bios for sure. I tried using my old cpu 3900x now it has no display as well

Did you ever figure it out? I also updated bios but nothing.
Guesswhosepicer@reddit
I figured it out. I needed a completely new CMOS battery. Hope this helps anyone looking at this thread in the future.

following, also have this issue

Just fixed this problem. Went from an AMD Ryzen 5 to a Ryzen 7 5700x3d.
Works just fine now. In the future, if I'm ever using the same mobo for an upgrade, I'll remember to update the bios first

This comment is what got my build to finally work. If you are having issues this is what I had and how I fixed. Went from a ryzen 3 3600 to a ryzen 7 5800.
After updating bios it would not turn on. Resetting the CMOS fixed this issue. Before the CMOS going to my old CPU would roll back the bios update.
Unit would turn on but did not display, had to update the chipset drivers. Where you download the BIOS update for the board/cpu (on MSI) there is a tab for drivers to find the chipset installer. You use this to easily update. The issue after is it would not display: issue was after upgrading to the ryzen 7 I needed to use the port on GFX card instead of the onboard display port.
Anyone who is having issues: 1) make sure to keep track of what IS working. Take the time to look at the product spec PDF to become familiar with the troubleshooting section so you can accurately use the MOBO LED lights to trouble shoot. 2) if you are having issues turning on the unit make sure it’s compatible and your power supply has the ability to power the GPU and CPU. if that’s not your issue make sure to reset CMOS and let the unit sit for a few minutes. CMOS will reset the bios settings and follow the manufacturers guide on enabling ‘default’ bios settings. Reinstall BIOS again. Further issues could be memory/ram related there is a default position for a single ram stick, see manufacturer spec. 3) if you are having display issues make sure the drivers for the MOBO to talk to the CPU may need to be installed so they talk to eachother.
Good luck!

I had the same issue, going from a ryzen 5 to a ryzen 7 5700 but when I put the old cpu back in to try and update my BIOS I'm still not getting any display or power to my peripherals. Any thoughts?
sadilikeresearch@reddit
Did you ever resolve this issue? I’m going through this problem currently.
coloneljb@reddit
Yes, I had to put the old cpu back in and do a CMOS reset on my mother board and then update bios then I was able to install the new cpu with no issues
Upstairs_Variety4369@reddit
i’ve done all those things and it’s still not displaying on my monitors
Overall-Plate-9218@reddit
For my build I also had to update the msi/chipset drivers. The bios wasn’t talking to the cpu until after I did this. Issue presented as powering on but no display signal.
Imaginary-Pensioner@reddit
Did you ever solve this. I'm having this exact issue
sadilikeresearch@reddit
For me, it was the memory card being pressed in, but not fully connected. I had to "assertively" insert my memory stick to get it to truly click. once it did, it started right up no issues. Good luck!
Imaginary-Pensioner@reddit
Thank you, I'll try that tonight :)

I too am going through the issue. I’ve put in my Old cpu and nothing coming up on screen.
TheRetardedRat@reddit
did you ever fix this

Really late to the party but I have this issue, updated bios, reset cmos etc...old cpu runs when reinstalled (2600) but new CPU nothing! (5600g) I've checked the website and it's compatible so I'm stumped
Br33cher@reddit
Did you find a solution? I just went from a 1700 to a 5700. I updated bios and chipset and still no post. I’m just worried it’s a dead chip bc mobo cpu light flashes.
Chris_Peacoq@reddit
I'll keep you updated, have you downgraded your bios to the 2020/22 version when the 5700 was released?
Br33cher@reddit
I have not but I will try that
Upstairs_Variety4369@reddit
do it work, i’m using this issue with my pc as of today lmao
Br33cher@reddit
I mailed my cpu back, I spent days troubleshooting and couldn’t figure it out.
Chris_Peacoq@reddit
Let me know If that works lol, I might've been dumb
Chris_Peacoq@reddit
Unfortunately not mate, had to do a refund with the chip so gonna try a different model although it was from CEX so likely it might've been a dead chip
nicoorn@reddit
This helps me out i just updated my mobo's bios then plug in the new cpu and it is now working.
lao7272@reddit
Did you update bios?
InfernyaFenix@reddit (OP)
I don't think I have? Maybe? How can I 1. Check 2. Update it if need be?

Firstly, change to your older processor so the pc boots.
Then go to this site and download the latest BIOS. Extract the zip archive and put the files on a usb stick. Restart the pc and go to your BIOS menu (spam F2 while your pc is starting). You can then update the BIOS with the file on the USB stick.
When the update is done, shut down the pc and install your new processor.
Here's a guide that explains the process in more detail:

I have a similar issue but now it isn't even switching on when I put my old cpu back
Inside-Ebb-5207@reddit
I’d like to add if you have an asus motherboard you need to go to asus’s website download the new bios and aisuite3 and you can update through that. They had a nice and easy to follow guide on their website
towerpower2@reddit
if anyone has the same issue here is what worked for me: bm450-hdv rev 1.01 ryzen 5600x working now with bios update v420
Zaouron@reddit
Make sure you are plugged into the GPU and not the onboard display port. 5600x doesn't do video.
InfernyaFenix@reddit (OP)
I am 100% plugged into my gpu, i tried directly plugging in both of my monitors one at a time, got no signal with either of them.
I'm pretty sure i just need to update my BIOS like the other comments have told me about.
yolonogla112@reddit
Ik I'm like a year behind but I'm having this same issue only I went from 3400g to 5800x did updating the bios fix it for you?
suniis@reddit
Same here. Any fixes?
