How much money would I need to spend to get a wifi usb adapter that is good for gaming.

Using Wi-Fi in general is a bad idea, a cheap ethernet cable will always win.

Yeah but in some cases like mine, the wifi is in another part of the house and i just wanna use something temporary for a year or so until the ethernet cable is fully setup

You can run internet through your power cables using powerline adapters.
Wi-Fi is fine if you just want to look something up, but if you want to stream 4K video or play something online, I would definitely recommend a wired connection.

For gaming I would avoid them. If you have a slot available a pcie adapter with an intel ax210 would be much better. In my personal case with a decent router I have the same connection speed and latency as I did when using an ethernet cable. Now that I only have an 800 Mbps connection, but it works for me.

Wired is better. Look into internet over power that's a great way of doing it.

I swear by the asus usb adapter that's really tiny. Should be about $40 at best buy. Not the fastest, but super adequate.

Not the fastest, but super adequate.
now there’s an inspiring statement lol

After buying 3, I would never buy a wifi usb adapter again lol

If you can get a PCIe adapter instead, I'd highly recommend going that route. Top of the line PCIe wifi adapters are 1/2-1/3 the cost of good USB wifi adapters.
That being said, if you absolutely have to go USB, decent adapters are in the $60-75 range: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/gjjBD3/

You can find a PCIe adapter based on the Intel AX210 chipset for like $30-35. No need to spend more than that. IE https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SHPKKBR

PCI-E ones are leaps and bounds better, tried a USB one and bought a PCI-E the next day

I'd aim for ~$20, because some of the $10 adapters are absolute trash

I've used this exact one in a secondary system about 30ft from the router through a floor. Works great.

I'd really recommend you get a PCI-E wifi/bluetooth adapter. They are usually much more reliable and better performing. I have the ASUS 55BT and it is phenomenal.

Get Powerline kit or just route a network cable.
