Has anyone rented a car from "Green motion"

Hello,
I was wondering if any of you ever rented a car from a company called "Green Motion?"
I was reading some mixed reviews of the company on Reddit but most of the issues are related to the branches in the UK.
Booking.com gave them a good score from a fair amount of reviews but I was curious if any of you have rented from them and have any insight on what it was like with them.
Nagyon köszönöm!

Buyer beware with this company. Everything went smooth until I got hit with over $200 in hidden fees. The company would not consider my emails. I'll never use them again.

I had a shocking experience renting in London. I was going to use my Chase credit card insurance coverage, so I declined their CDW waiver. When I got to the desk, they said I had CDW, but then needed additional insurance. It was a total scam.
On returning the vehicle, they also mis-represented the fuel gauage and made me sign the vehicle return form without indicating it included the fuel levels.
DO NOT USE GREEN MOTION.

RUN AWAY AS FAR AS YOU CAN!!! Green motion / Kenings car hire in South Africa is a scam! They disabled the car as I was not willing to pay the hidden deposit of R20000.00 after I already had paid R15000.00 including additional insurance.
I was left to rent a car from a different rental company. May They rot in hell!!!
Fabulous_Passion_529@reddit
If you pay for the hidden deposit of R20000.00, I am sure you will loose the R20000.00 deposit. This is what I encoutered.

SCAM - the price you pay on reservation not the price you actually will pay. They’ll try to scam you with insurance. Which can easily be refused at any other rental company such as fox, cheap affordable and I got a new car even. greenmotion just another scam rental company like zezgo. Never fall for mandatory insurance it’s not required by law.
BackgroundLand3184@reddit
I walked away from them refusing to pay them 1000s of dollars. I’ll take the L on 350 dollars.

AVOID. My father had a stroke 1 day into 3 day rental I needed to take an emergency flight to attend to him. These guys refused to refund my my difference they are more than happy to make a few bucks over a dying person. Scum owners. For the sake of humanity drive these idiots out of business they are repulsive. Its been a traumatic experience but these dumbasses added a cherry on top.
Sea-Practice4594@reddit
This is the perfect scam. They quote you a very low rental price to hook you in, then they flood you with numerous added charges (insurance, booking fee, tolls, etc) and at the end you pay double of what you would have paid with Hertz, Avis, Enterprise or Dollar. In addition, in Miami, they claim to be "In the Terminal", but they are not. We refused to sign the contract because the terms were not consistent. What they do is they send you an e-mail a day later, with the fine print, which is not consistent with what you agreed to when you made the booking. STAY AWAY FOR THEM AT ALL COSTS!!

Green motion.com car rental place in Miami airport is a scam location by surprise rental with their crazy Insurance policy that force me to buy their insurance for 69 dollars a day. You can’t use your own insurance with policy that not cover liability up to 300000 dollars. On top of that insurance. You must put down 2000 secure deposit. I saw 5 group of people walk out and pissed off. Yelp 1 star. Unfortunately, I had to pay since don’t have any choice.

I was thinking of renting a car for 5 days (in the middle of January 2025) from this company. They asked to buy their insurance, ignoring my personal car insurance.
Thanks for telling me this, I will look for other rental companies.....
Moist_Confusion_1141@reddit
https://greenmotion.com/ is a scam. Just like these other comments I received a rental agreement thru Expedia.com for my car rental. we arrived at the Green Motion counter (off airport) and our reservation had been cancelled. I should have seen that as red flag and left. But I followed employees directions and went to their website to rebook. Then upon returning to counter, I was told I had to provide my username and password so their 'insurance application" could verify my insurance. I said NO and asked employee to cancel my reservation and return my payment. They said they cant do that, I would have to call/email to ask for return. I did. The return email said that in the fine print I agreed to provide my insurance information and because I had not they were NOT going to refund me.
While I was waiting in their office, 2 other families also encountered the same situation. 1 left, then 2nd agreed to purchase their insurance but where very upset and loud about the conflict. All of the customers were like myself and had valid insurance but Green Motion would not accept their insurance information.
Spread the word. Green Motion IS A SCAM!!!!
Timbo2510@reddit
I had this exact experience 4 days ago. I had to argue with the lady behind the counter and she gave me a mad attitude when I called out the business practice. She claimed that they aren't an ALMO or ENTERPRISE or HERTZ so their policy is different saying that you are REQUIRED to get their insurance regardless of if you have your own insurance of if your credit card company covers that part. When she showed me the paper to sign I didn't sign it because it said "additional insurance coverage is OPTIONAL".
They still charged me. CRAZY!!!!

DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM! and please make sure you avoid booking through 3rd party websites too. We went to Croatia last spring but booked this in Budapest, Hungary, so 18 months ago and got a parking ticket that we tried to pay the moment we realised it, but with the language barrier, we could not figure it out and we were running to the airport. I tried to pay for it numerous times online after from Hong Kong where we live with no functionally working links at all. The website was not working, so eventually I gave up. I read at the time online this is a common problem in Croatia. The fine was 13 euros. Just got a letter now from Green Motion that we owe 173 euros with a link for payment and threatening letter from a Croatian Lawyer they work with. Since I do not need more trouble in my life, I pressed the link and paid and realised after it is 40 euros over the orginal fine, because it adds other fees, admin, transaction, etc and now asking them where is my difference of 40 euros. Did not get that back either, I am Hungarian and French and furious and can communiate with them in both languages. Please avoid them at all costs. Watch what you book through 3rd party sites too. I normally do not leave bad reviews but this is ridiculous and completely unfair and should be illegal or they should have this organised so people have a chance to pay their original fines. But all the fees plus another 40 euros on top. Unbelievable.
JCANRZ@reddit
I had a reservation for today the 24th till Jan 8th, we called 3 days ago to confirm that the car was still good to go and they said yes. Today we called again and they said they didn't have any cars. We are not notified of any changes nor that we would not be getting any car. This is unprofessional and poorly handled. We were depending on that car to get around Mexico and are stranded at the airport. Do not book a rental with this company.

There needs to be an option for ZERO stars. DO NOT EVER USE GREEN MOTION CAR RENTAL!!!! After paying for a vehicle through Expedia and buying a third party insurance policy through them, that insurance was not accepted when we arrived to pick the car up. I was charged an additional fee although I carry full coverage on my own policy and my credit card adds coverage on rentals. In addition there was another $500 "deposit" charge that was never disclosed I had to pay on the spot. Whoever details their cars had the bright idea to put Armor All on the brake pedal making it slippery causing an unnecessary dangerous situation
FollowingNew236@reddit
This car rental company scammed me. They charged me for a defect in the car that we hadn't done. They charged me $1,500. We were late for our next flight, and they were going to take us to the airport. The attendant realized how naive we were and how desperate we were to not miss our flight. She said that we would have to pay $1,500 and then the insurance would reimburse us. I gave her my card and she pretended to try to pass it on and said that she hadn't passed it on. My husband gave me the amount in cash! She made me sign a digital receipt, and I signed for $1,500 so I could charge the company. When I got to the airport, I checked the receipt in my email. The amount was $60. I'm warning you because this seems believable, but scammers deceive you to the point where you don't see any danger in front of you! Please don't do business with this company.

The Tampa "airport" location, which is about 25 minutes from the airport in Florida has to be the absolute WORST!!! They are bullies and extremely rude, 5 customers walked out right in front of me and I ended up getting an Uber back to the airport with 3 other families who also walked away from them. I will never book anything through them and if EXPEDIA doesn't drop them, then I'm done with them too!!!
Possible-Pattern1979@reddit
This company participates in mis-leading practices. They charge you a low up front cost and state that all mandatory fees are included but when you show up at the counter, you are charged 'mandatory fees' that are double the car rental price. You try to call head office while at the counter and they do not answer their phones. I even had e-mail proof where their representative confirmed no additional charges, and yet they wouldn't reverse the charge even with my proof. Renter BEWARE. they do not offer good business practices at all. It is a classic bait & switch. Stay away!
NoPlaceForTheDead@reddit
Straight trash.
Their terma and conditions say they won't rent to military personnel. That's fine, their prerogative.
However, they also won't rent to you if you are in any way affiliated with the military. My girlfriend is a teacher, to children, on a US Army base. She is not a soldier in any way and never has been.
When we got to the Edinburgh Green Motion office, they rejected her and refused to give us a rental they already took payment for. They claim3d it was because she was military.
They also claim we broke the T&C, so no refund.
ViewFromMyWorld@reddit
They are a disaster! they are more of an insurance company and the car rental is just the gateway to their misrepresentations and horrible insurance tactics. We rented from them and had a flat tire ( the car was not issued with a spare tire). They said we owed for the tire replacement, the service call, the tow truck, and a bunch of other fees, originally asking us to pay 2000 euro!!! Needless to say, it wasn’t a pleasant exchange and ultimately, we negotiated a reduced amount. staff was so unpleasant and inconsiderate….DO NOT RENT from them!
theSMTsound@reddit
This company is a SCAM. They claim all of their vehicles are commercial vehicles and that you are forced to purchase their car insurance, which is almost more per day than the car rental itself. This is illegal. Also, their deposit is $2000. OUTRAGEOUS! If you do decide to book with them, be prepared to wait an exorbitant amount of time for the shuttle to show up and take a very long drive to their lot, which is in the middle of nowhere. Have extra money ready to Uber wherever you need to go unless you feel like dropping a couple grand on their scam.
ViewFromMyWorld@reddit
Never, ever, ever, rent a car from Green Motion. They really aren’t in the car rental business, just the scamming insurance busines…plus their cars are not rented with spare tires, and a flat tire is the equivalent of a broken window, or damaged fende. And you can’t just buy a tire and change it! They will charge your credit card and basically tell you too bad, tough luc….and they are rude and ugly too!

Green Motion is one big scam company with staff and employees are all in on it. They try to scam money out of your credit card every way they can. The contract they provide has no specific instruction about traffic rules and conditions of London and England. Once you get a ticket of entering the Congestion Charge Zone, the company insists that the ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) charge will not apply to any Green Motion vehicle as they are all compliant, and charge it to you with their hefty administration fee. All they do is sending an email to you and charge 68 pounds for each ticket. When I arrived at their Heathrow office, my car wasn't ready so they pushed me to rent another car with more money. The car was supposed to be a law compliant but I still got a ticket driving a regular roads in London and Oxford. The reps in the office never mention or warn me this ULEZ law and push to rent the car that I didn't ordered and paid extra. When I found out that I got ticket 3 weeks later, they send me a bill for the ticket and their service fee by an email. I wrote a few emails back and forth between their customer service team, all they did was to stick the contract with one line says "Each traffic violations/PCN’s/Parking Charge Notices are subject to management fees of £68.00 including VAT plus the original fine (where applicable)," but the car was compliant and they push me to rent it. I'm from California and we have no such a law. I never new what it is even today. When a rent-a-car company rents out their cars, it is their responsibility to tell customers verbally or in writing for them to understand basic unique regulations on the roads we, foreigners, don't know. They failed to do so and it is their negligence. Green Motion won't take any responsibility and stick the penalty and/plus their crazy amount of fees on the top of it to customers. It is a scam and illegal. I am suiting the company and reps in the Los Angeles court since this is where I originally paid and rented a car from them. If they don't show up, I simply win with no show and use that to dispute all the charges, including original rental fees. I hope everybody who are not happy with their services, do the same or join me. If we have enough people, we can also file a civil case against Green Motion.

What car rental horror stories are made of
We had booked a 4 days road trip to the Highlands, 3 months in advance and had secured and already fully paid for, a good car deal of £102, insurance included, with Green Motion, through the broker Car Jet. Upon arrival at Green Motion
1.they asked us to pay a ridiculous fee because we arrived an hour early: we said that's fine, we'll wait it out
Then they said we couldn't get our paid car, because they wouldnt take neither my Visa debit card, nor the full amount I happened to have readily available in cash for extra risk coverage!!!
Then they said they wouldn't refund any of the paid amount of either the car or the insurance
Then they offered us to make with them a new car booking of £2000, that's 20 times more the amount we had initially paid, because they said 'its last minute and this is what the rate was at the moment. That was on top of our first booking too!
20' after the shock, and with just 30''worth of car rentals' Google search through big name competitors, we got on board a great suv automatic car for £350 total. We will never again rent a car with Green Motion. It was a horrible experience.
Junior-Oil-1847@reddit
My experience was horrible.
The company had customer reps on the counters that clearly were NOT well trained to complete the reservation process. The place itself was VERY bad maintained. To give you an example, the bathrooms had NO LIGHT whatsoever so if you had to go, you have to use a flashlight to see where the toilet was because it was pitch dark.
With all this being said, what I truly hated is how they hid their real fees. They advertise themselves as a more economic options than the big players. The price I got originally was 159.39 US but after the small print, I ended up paying 621.94 US.
I have receipts to prove all this, this is really not trashing the company to make them look bad for no reason, this is a honest account of my experience only last week in LA.
Expleseeptes1984@reddit
Hey, did you end up using Green Motion? I came across them when using this aggregator site as they had the best price, but some of these comments are making me second guess.

They are a scammers! Stay away from them ! Imagine that they rented our reserved car to somebody else just because of our delay of flight ! Even we informed them about the delay and they day okay ( calling them is something and they respond with attitude… long story ) anyways when when arrived they kept is waiting at the airport for 2 hours and when they went to their agency they say we don’t have car for you! They already rented it to somebody even we paid for it and with the full insurance paid ! When we asked for refund they say no refund and no car !!! And we we paid for 15 days and for a delay of day the car is gone and no refund ! And no good communication with the client ! Scaaammers

Booked a car rental on Expedia and then when arrived even though we showed we had full covereage auto policies through Safeco and Nationwide (with documents) they said they did not take Safeco (even though it is Liberty Mutual and they accepted Liberty Mutual) and that what we had with Nationwide was not adequate and in order to continue on and make connections were required to purchase additional car insurance at the counter. They also told us we would receive credit for our personal auto policy and would only be charged an additional fee and then we were billed $107 additional on top of the Expedia booking just for additional insurance for 3 days even though we had two auto policies with full coverage insurance. On top of that the itemized receipt for the insurance was one amount and then they billed our credit card another amount with an additional $20 that is not itemized and said it was for taxes when taxes were itemized on the receipt. So double taxed? When we returned the car we observed another man arguing with the counter and going through the same thing and an additonal woman had just gone through it and refused and was taking a shuttle back to the airport to rent a car from someone else. They are clearly putting one thing online with Expedia and then gouging customers upon arrival when they are at their mercy if they have connections to meet. There is no transparancy and we did not have any problems like this when we rented from Easyrent in Tampa before. When we contacted them upon completing travel they said we signed so it stands and would do nothing. They also would not let us speak to a manager. Do not rent from this car rental business, they are scamming customers.

I do not recommend this company they are scammers and they don't value the customer, i only rent from them once here in Bulgaria, and they give me their worst possible car they had, with the ridiculous excuse that it was a "complimentary upgrade" from the actual car i rent in their site, but in reality after 30 minutes of delay from their employers, the car i receive with thousands of problems and quite dirty inside and when i complain about it and ask for refund, they refuse and they pretended like their car was perfect and it has no issues. So guys please stay away from that company!

Green Motion in Dubrovnik was a terrible experience. Everything about the experience in person felt "scammy." We had taken out insurance online (RentalCover.com). Green Motion held 1200 Euros when we returned the car and said we had to deal with insurance company; only thing they provided was a small receipt. The guy handling said they would provide whatever else was needed. For week's, myself and the insurance company have been trying to get a repair invoice (a receipt from the service provider who repaired the damages) OR a copy of the pricing table they used. They have not provided anything. I am currently disputing the charge with my credit card company since they have not done their part to resolve it.
Would NOT RECOMMEND Green Motion in Dubrovnik.

*WARNING* PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! IT IS A SCAM!!!!!
I rented a (apparently, brand new) Volvo that broke down 30mins down the road. When I called the number provided, I was given the 'run-around', and told to call a breakdown company. I did, and 4 hours later they sent a lorry. When it arrived, they took the car away leaving me on the side of the road, as they said they were unable to assist me further.
The office basically left me out to dry, and I ended up with a 200 quid Uber ride to get me where I needed to be.
I managed to block the transaction on my credit card, and got a full refund, and as annoying as the whole thing was, as far as I was concerned the matter was closed.
Imagine my surprise when I got an email say that "After a full investigation" the car broke down due to "water in the engine", and that somehow I was liable. They then immediately attempted to bill my card nearly TWENTY TOUSAND POUNDS!!! (They were, not surprisingly, unsuccessful).
I have since changed my credit card, and blocked any further emails from Green Motion.
This is a particularly dirty company, using very greasy business practices.
SO, PLEASE AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!...... YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.....

On April 25th I purchased a car rental reservation through Hopper at 4:29pm for an elderly family member flying into Orlando airport the following day.
I received notification at 10pm that the airline carrier was experiencing a delay. Thusly, I called to notify Hopper of the change. Hopper (we) issued a call to Green Motion at 10:17pm to avoid any issues with the purchased reservation.
We were not to be considered a no-show because of the fact that I informed Hopper and placed a call the night before to inform green motion of the delayed flight for my family member. Which was, in fact, the same evening and within hours of purchased reservation.
Therefore, with this notification, Green Motion was supposed to reserve the car in accordance with the policies regarding prior notification for delays made public to consumers.
In the event that Green Motion was unable to reserve the car they should have issued a refund.
Knowingly renting a purchased/reserved vehicle to another customer is bad business practice. This is actionable from a consumer perspective.
Hoppers calls are recorded for quality assurance. The calls to Hopper and from Hopper are retrievable. This provides evidence to the fact that I had exhausted all facets to ensure that I upheld my responsibilities as a consumer and advised of changes that occurred through no fault of my own well in advance to the pick up time scheduled for the car rental.
This is predatory behavior should be made public to unsuspecting consumers. No one should have to endure this type of business practice which is theft.
BUYER BEWARE.

Before I rented a vehicle with Green Motion Int'l., I read the reviews and concerns. I printed my contract, had a valid credit and drivers license, a copy of my insurance policy, and insurance card to avoid any upselling or rental process delays. I flew into Los Angeles Int'l airport (LAX), took two shuttles to to get to Green Motion Car and Van Rental, on a rainy day with my luggage. When I got to the counter, I began to pull each of these documents out and the attendant was very surpised I was ready and organized. He handed me a copy of their rental policy, which stated that I could only travel within California and Nevada. My business trip required that I drive both in California and Arizona. After going back and forth with the supervisors and manager, I was lead to the garage, away from the other customers, and informed that they regretted to inform me that they would not be able to rent the vehicle to me since my intent included to drive to Arizona and their coverage did not include that state. I explained, that had their website stated that from the very beginning, I would NOT have rented a vehicle from them. They expressed no regret and told me to apply for a refund since I had prepaid for the rental.
Needless to say, RENTER BEWARE!

My car rental was a mess. I only booked for one day, but the rental office wasn't at the airport, which was a pain. The pick-up service was 45 minutes late, and then it took 15 more minutes to get to the office, wasting an hour.
When I finally got there, the car was dirty, and they wanted a big 2000 BHS security deposit. They said it was just a hold on my credit card and would give it back when I returned the car, but I had to wait a whole month to get it back.
Then, 15 days later, I saw they charged 650 BHS on my credit card without my permission. They said it was for damage to the car, but I returned it without any scratches. After arguing, they admitted it was a mistake but didn't give me the money back like they promised.
I tried to get the refund from my bank, but they said it would take another 30 days because the rental company didn't release the money.
This whole thing was awful, and I won't rent from them again.

When I returned my car, they said there was damage. Given that I hardly used it, this is unlikely. However, how they "discovered" the damage was clearly fraudulent, and I will look into their claim's legality. My daughter is a lawyer, so you messed with the wrong customer.I left my car in the exact spot where I had initially parked it, right in front of the porta cabin. To my surprise, they then requested me to drive the car around the back , a request I have never encountered with any other car rental agency, anywhere in the world. They then said they would inspect it and suggested I wait in the office. Having never been on the receiving end of scams like this, I didn't think anything of it.Then, after about 10 minutes, they miraculously found damage. They inspected it while I was not present, and, more importantly, the car and the people checking it were out of view.

PLEASE PLEASE Whatever your plans are.. stay clear of GREEN MOTION!! I rented a car from them for 9 days aat the end of November 2022, from Rome, IT. I felt so smart! the rent was so cheap! It was a bargain! We picked up the car at Fiumicino Airport. They picked us up. No problem. We traveled throughout Toscana area. Well, we discovered (too late), that the police has fun with rental cars and gives parking tickets, sometimes two at a time. Well, I understand. That's Italian police. The problem was that to return the car, the 2 employees at the agency made us, on purpose, miss our flight. paperwork, checking the car, no English, staight laughing at us, until almost in tears I begged them for the ride to the airport. The van was right there. The cost for a one way ticket for 2 passengers on Delta the next day, $3,000.00. Not only that. They, with the excuse of "administration Fees" they charged us a total of $200.00 to forward the police our address. Now we owe over $500.00 in fines. Cheap? Smart? No!! We were taken for a ride. Literally.
Embarrassed_Diet1263@reddit
What an inappropriate comment about the Italian police. If you park incorrectly in the USA or wherever you get a ticket that is all. And of course the rental is gonna charge you for tickets you get.

It's a really bad company, and I highly recommend avoiding them!
I had a very bad experience with them in Miami. After waiting for their transportation for 3 hours at the airport, they also brought us a car in very bad condition and attitude.
Another time, in Zurich, I ordered the vehicle through a third-party company and did not notice that it was the same company. We had a very unfortunate case where I scratched the rental car because a truck blocked the exit from the rental company's parking lot. The company employee said that he saw and understood the situation and would do everything so that the charge would be minimal and the company would absorb it. Yesterday, he owed me 2000 francs!! On a scratch!!! Not so minimal!!
