Add on CFI/CFII?

Here’s the deal, I have SEL, MEL, COM from long ago and added glider comercial and got a primary glider CFI. Now thinking about getting powered CFI/CFII. I would prefer accelerated as I don’t like taking months on this stuff, but have a caveat on that. I am flying the tow planes at the glider port so I’m not totally out of the glider world, but the last IPC I flew was many years ago. Most accelerated courses assume you are a primary student. Were you in this case, what would you do?

I don’t think I filled out a form, at least not lately. I’m in Colorado so East coast isn’t exactly close for me. Saw your DM, though. I’ll check it out tomorrow when I’m not exhausted.

What is a primary glider instructor? I believe a primary glider is an open seat on a 2x4… Except for FOI, nothing is going to be different between *initial* CFI in an airplane and what you are doing. I did initial CFI in a glider in 2013. Added on AMEL early 2020 and ASEL later that year. (I was instructing in the Seminole before I was even ASEL Commercial.) Look at the add on matrix in the ACS. It tells you exactly what you’ll do. I suggest you print the table of contents and the applicable add on matrix. Draw a box around the “I’m already glider Commercial column.” Then highlight the applicable items in the TOC. This is your abridged training outline. (Strike through the things you won’t do, if you like.) An accelerated place will happily *not* do FOI with you. You’re looking at sort of combo training. When I’ve trained CFIIs, I ask them to research and plan their own IPC as our first lesson. Most CFIIs are giving IPCs, not training new instrument students. Good luck!

I would. I had a job offer that required ME Commercial. Did MEI since I was already CFI-G and had put in so much effort learning ME aerodynamics. Out of almost 800 dual given, 200 is gliders and 250 ME. So it’s worked well for me. Seven out of 15 checkrides I’ve sent people to have been ME. Feel free to message if you like. I would do an IPC first. You have to show up prepared to accelerated courses. They’re not gonna teach you from zero. You should be comfortable flying from the right seat and you should be comfortable flying approaches and holds.

I’m figuring I need to know my way around a glass cockpit a little too, last approach I flew we were still doing NDBs every once in a while.

Most planes are still steam, but your IFR equipped planes will likely have something like a G430 or what not, so you wouldn't need to really learn how to fly "glass" panels
