Local, Trash, LTL, Ready Mix… there’s all kinds of CDL jobs that aren’t OTR or Mega jobs. I do trash $85k a year home every night. Not the best money but it works

That would be perfect for me. I make that in IT. But I am expected to pull miracles out of my ass. Work late and not get paid for it. Work weekends and not get paid for it. So on.

This is misleading. Do not get into trucking thinking you’ll make 85k a year. The average truck driver makes $50-60k. The industry standard is 60-70 hours a week, 5-6 days a week. You’re ability to get a job this guy is describing is highly dependent on where you live, and your years of experience. This is not a 9-5 M-F industry.

Pay is concerning. No argument there. But hours I am flexible on. The only big thing I am giving up is working from home. If I am not sitting in front of a computer all day that may be worth it to me. Look without having the CDL A license this is a pipe dream. But if I at least have the license nothing is holding me back to apply wherever. That is how I am thinking it. If you feel I am wrong I love to hear it.

That’s funny because making $85k a year working from home is literally MY dream lol. You keep saying that you can apply wherever. Yes you can apply, but without experience it’ll be very difficult to get hired anywhere. You said you’re flexible on hours, ok. Are you willing to work overnight? 10pm-10am? Do you want to work 14 hours, take 10 hours off and then work another 14 hours? My job doesn’t even pay overtime.

I am flexible. I am willing to do weekend only work and keep my IT job and maybe one day leave IT. I get lack of experience will make it difficult to get a job. But I didn’t know IT when I got my first IT job. So in short it isn’t impossible to get a job with no experience. At least with this I will have been to a school to train me.

There’s no weekend only work. Especially as someone with no experience. It’s going to have to be all or nothing. You’re a little bit naive about this industry. But hey if you’re dead set on it, I wish you the best. I just hope to god you aren’t in Florida or some other sun belt state.

Roll Off dumpsters are the big ones they use on construction sites that have to be hauled away, emptied and brought back. The trucks look like a flatbed and a tow truck. They have rails on them and they winch to pull the big dumpster on the back and secure.

Okay well if you're not going to give more information then don't expect Reddit to be able to give good answers to your question 🤷🏼‍♀️ If you want to get a CDL, go get a CDL. If you have a good driving record, can stay away from drugs, and have even halfway decent communication skills, you can get a job. Will your first job be raking in the cash? Maybe not. But the longer you stick with it and keep your record clean the more opportunities open up. That's pretty much all there is to it.
