VGA light on and pc won’t boot

Having an issue with this pc not booting. Apparently it was working fine today and then upon turning it on again a few hours later it won’t boot. Was running fine for a year until today. It shows a red VGA light. Here’s what I tried already:
- Swapping GPUs.
- Trying one ram stick (both are in 2 and 4)
- Unplugging and replugging all cables into the motherboard
- Resetting cmos and unplugging it and plugging the battery
- Booting without the nvme drive after resetting cmos
- Plugging the gpu into a different slot
Seeing as this problem persists after a gpu swap I can only imagine it being the motherboard or psu? I have no idea what else I can do now if there’s any other solutions. Any help is much appreciated, thank you.
Specs: - Ryzen 3600 - MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk - Sapphire Nitro Radeon R9 Fury - 2x8gb 3200mhz Corsair Vengeance - Evga 600 BQ - 1tb nvme drive

I had this problem and realized I have to turn my monitor on before I turn the computer on. If I turn the monitor on before PC, no problems. PC first, won't boot.

For me I need to unplug the DP cable and boot the PC first. If I turn the monitor on first, with the DP cable plugged in, the VGA light lights on. I don't know what the problem is.

Oh, recently had this issue with my friend. It is your refresh rate + resolution or using HDR with too high resolution and refresh rate than what the specified cable supports.

I also had this problem, thanks for helping me figure it out.

For some reason, turning on my monitor before turning on my pc fixed the issue for me. Strange.

Your comment saved me a lot of time and my friend a lot of money. Thanks bro!

For anyone that stumbles on this issue in the future, mine was due to the motherboard. Replacing it fixed the issues where the VGA light came on and the PC wouldn't boot.

damn the whole mobo?

Correct

Hey I'm having this exact problem now and have also tried everything, what did you mean by the vga cable was loose on the psu? Mines modular and is there a specific cable named VGA? I bought mine just last year and its been fine up until now. My pc will post eventually after restarting multiple times or turning the psu on and off again

Sorry for late reply but yea it was loose. Just had to reconnect it. Recommend unplugging everything on it though (except the cpu) and plugging it all back in. Also is your pc plugged directly into the wall or in a power strip where it isn’t sharing too much power with something else?
UnitedHornet689@reddit
Yep I did all that and I found out what it was. It was my sata ssd. Whats weird is I would reconnect the ssd multiple times including with a different sata cable and it would give me the same issue and then I ordered a new m.2 and its on the way, however now that I plugged the ssd back in it seems to be working again, not sure why but ill have to test it again on a cold boot to make sure but I already formatted it lol. That was the issue though so yeah super weird, thanks for replying though.

I know it's late but did you ever figure out why your ssd had this problem?
Fawxey3@reddit
I had this issue too and it was because the 1st vga cord port on my power supply had stopped working. So i switched it to the 2nd slot on the psu vga 2 and it booted

I know this is old but I figured out the issue for me. I use an LG OLED C3 TV and every time I restarted, it wouldn’t restart but just show an orange light on the motherboard. I decided to turn off the tv just as I pressed restart and it seems to have fixed the issue. No idea why it does this but I’m just glad I’ve found a work around. Seems to only happen after I’ve played a game so it might be the TVs Nvidia Gsync setting. Again, no idea.
