Do pcs need wifi antennas?

When I bought the motherboard (ASUS ROG Strix Z690-A Gaming WiFi) it came with an antenna. Is the antenna necessary? Cuz I see a lot of builds without antennas. Or am I just clueless?

Turned the WiFi antenna to much and port is turning and loose

Can confirm, just installed some cheap $5 antennas from amazon and although at first install, my wifi just completely died (I believe because I installed while my computer was on, oops), but i restarted and BOOM. I can use my BT Bose headphones, speakers, any bluetooth, while not being able to before without being glued against my pc lmao.

Oh.. my god... I DEFINITELY need antenna lmao. I got bose headphones and had to get a long ass cable so that i could use them for my computer, as the bt didn't work. My wifi speeds are ass while on other computers in my house they're fine.. Just took a look at my brothers computer, and, yup, antennas installed. Thank you for saving my pc\~ gonna buy some (will let you know how it goes)

thank christ i found this i did not realize those little sticks were antennas thank you

Lmao how on earth did you not make the connection? They have screw holes that fit perfectly into the coax that are sticking out of the back panel.
Not trying to be rude, just don't understand.

Ngl I'm here because I wouldn't've made the connection either, no pun intended. I am not super tech savvy and would have just assumed the manufacturers were being considerate to our just-in-case ethernet needs. LOL
This is what happens when you grow up on TikTok.
Aulimindale@reddit
are you, like, 12? Tik tok has not been around long enough for anyone to "grow up" on it unless you're that young
TheGreatestGuyEver@reddit
Not the quickest, are ya?
Bless your soul.

I dint realize cause the antennas im used to are usually a thin metal stick with a ball on top
Trivo3@reddit
no they don't
all motherboards have a connector for a lan cable, and on top of that they also have slots for PCI devices. I have a wifi module on one of mine, coste 15euro.
having an inbuilt wifi on the motherboard is just a feature most people opt out of
ShakeNBaker45@reddit
OP isn't asking if boards fundamentally need wifi antennas. The answer to that is obviously no. But if the board comes with wifi capability baked in, use the antennas.
Aulimindale@reddit
That's how *you* interpret the question, bro
fervent_force2@reddit
One of em snapped off. Is that bad? They are like two wings in the back, should I buy a new one? idk that it’s a problem and Fortnite takes forever to update compared to my PS5 so does one being snapped off have to do with it?
Aulimindale@reddit
yeah probably. the reason there are two is becuase one of them are for high amplitude waves which will give faster speeds then the other one which is for low amplitude waves and for slower speeds

Poor dude probably immediately threw his in the trash after assembling his PC and immediately regretted it before posting this. LMAO jkjk
Would be hilarious tho.

Got left on read. I feel you bro your not alone

So my pc didn’t come with an antenna but if I did get on and used it, would my WiFi run faster on my pc?
rapierarch@reddit
That antenna is necessary for wifi and Bluetooth. If you will not use any of those two you do not need to install it.
Most people forget that it is also Bluetooth antenna and do not install it than get a lot of problems with their bt devices.
messfdr@reddit
Can confirm. Couldn't use a Bluetooth speaker from across the room until I installed mine.
OzZVidzYT@reddit
Dead thread but same. IBuyPower PC. It came with a magnetic MSI shark-fin antenna. Didn't connect it and my Bluetooth adapter kept shutting itself off. Updated drivers and everything but was still having issues. Connected the antenna and all problems immediately went away...
playtio@reddit
If it comes with the antenna, you need it.
HetIsTeUnsatisfying@reddit
My wifi still works without the antenna, but the speeds weren't that good until i used the antenna
playtio@reddit
So you needed it
rdeweese125@reddit
Sounds like he didn’t NEED it
FadingDarkly@reddit
Yes. Correct. You can also run without shoes... But they help
