The Suzuki Carry/Every - the only vehicle to be badged as both a Chevy and a Ford. It's also been a Bedford, Vauxhall, GME, Daewoo, Autozam, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Holden, Maruti, and Changhe.

I had never heard of the GME brand until now. Yet another obscure GM marque.
Taniwha351@reddit
General Motors Europe. The Umbrella Corporation for all the GM Subsidiaries in Europe.
BadWolfRU@reddit
Still produced in Uzbekistan as Chevrolet Damas, price for new car started at ~ 6 700 - 6 800 €
Tractorface123@reddit
Wow what, I’d want that now! If only they sold to people abroad and made a right hand drive version
Taniwha351@reddit
They Dooo! #3 Suzuki Carry, #4 Bedford Rascal, #6 Vauxhall Rascal, #8, Autozam Scrum, #9 Mazda Scrum, #10 Mitsubishi Town Box, #11 Mitsubishi Minicab, #12 Nissan Clipper, #13 Holden Scurry (with Queensland Rego) and #14 Maruti Omni
All RHD. There's even a few more rebadges that aren't listed.
dryleaf_@reddit
Uzbek here. Can confirm that the Damas carries the economy. Without it, we would be 4th world country.
Aiken_Drumn@reddit
Of course the ugliest one is the one still going...
PalmTreeIsBestTree@reddit
Did not realize you can buy a Tahoe in Uzbekistan.
shart-gallery@reddit
TIL they're still making the Lacetti
PalmTreeIsBestTree@reddit
No way. Thats one of the Top Gear reasonably priced cars.
LetsNarratorPremium@reddit
Which sounds pretty expensive actually when you consider the base price for a brand new, base-grade Daihatsu Hijet in Japan is 1.045.000JPY (less than 6.200€ at current change rate).
IceTea0069@reddit
Just like yhe Sentra B13 and the LandCruiser
sussywanker@reddit
Holy shit!! I was not aware of this
vy_you@reddit
The ol Daewoo Damas!
Apparently the name Damas comes from Spanish but does not come from checkers, the boardgame, nor from plural for dama, lady. It comes from dar más, to give more.
SkippyNordquist@reddit (OP)
Thanks for the info! That is ridiculously cheap even for an old design. I like that we have people on this sub from all over the world (or at least knowledgable about cars from all over the world).
BadWolfRU@reddit
Considering the average salary in Tashkent in Q1'24 is around 550-600€ and the country average is ~350€, it is not as cheap as it looks
SkippyNordquist@reddit (OP)
On that end, yes, but it still costs money to make. I guess labor is cheap.
BreadKnife34@reddit
What's the Mitsubishi van called?
FRANCISLITAN@reddit
Simmilar to that, CMC VARICA from Taiwan’s Mitsubishi it’s different. Aka Cushman White Truck in the US.
SkippyNordquist@reddit (OP)
It's the Mitsubishi Minicab. Earlier generations of the Minicab were Mitsubishi's own design, but now it's just yet another rebadged Suzuki.
BreadKnife34@reddit
Damn
FRANCISLITAN@reddit
Chevrolet Super Carry in Colombia
technobrendo@reddit
I love those little kei vehicles! I kinda wanna drop a busa motor into all of them.
Similar displacement, slightly more HP.
Djaja@reddit
I liked the Maruti version most
Low-Decision-6942@reddit
Subaru Sambar has entered the chat.
SkippyNordquist@reddit (OP)
The Sambar is a rebadged Daihatsu Hijet, not a Suzuki, though kei trucks all look pretty similar.
BenderDeLorean@reddit
I love that car. There was an luxury Mitsubishi version with 4 little glass roofs over the seats and nice interior.
But the price was 10 years ago 17K € for used old ones. Today probably even more.
Kubrick_Fan@reddit
I think they're called a Suzuki Rascal here in the UK
Richybliss@reddit
They’re Suzuki Carry/Super Carry in the uk. The Bedford and Vauxhall versions were Rascals
Kubrick_Fan@reddit
Ahhh, thanks
Suturb-Seyekcub@reddit
Every third car in rural Japan is one of these! Lol
Chevvvvy@reddit
Was there a 4x4 variant?
SkippyNordquist@reddit (OP)
Yep, there still is, in fact. Here's a 2022 for sale:

They're driven by absolute psychopaths in South Korea. They'll hit you, run you over and keep going. They don't weigh anything so you'll have to scrape yourself up off the ground in bewilderment.
under_the_pump@reddit
Still selling in Australia for $25-30000. Cool little variations.
theonetrueelhigh@reddit
And the first one is LHD. That's a rare bird.
burrgerwolf@reddit
Vauxhall Rascal is a top tier name
Obvious_Customer9923@reddit
The Holden Scurry in Australia
SicnarfRaxifras@reddit
I’d honestly never heard of these until today !
nlpnt@reddit
GME Rascal in Europe outside the UK because apparently Opel didn't want their name on it.
Redbeard_Rum@reddit
Do a few burnouts in it and you'll soon be a dizzee rascal.
Wulf_Cola@reddit
I used to love spotting Rascals as a kid. Best name!
brutalduties@reddit
I had the Mitsubishi! Probably my all time favorite car I've owned. The Japanese are awesome 👍
DarthMeow504@reddit
At first I interpreted it as the vehicle being badged Chevy and Fort at the same time, like some bizarre joint project and I found the thought rather amusing.
burrgerwolf@reddit
They use the same 10 speed in the new f150s and Silverados. That’s the closest joint venture between them. Completely different programming, so kinda like the 8 speed in Dodge and BMW products.
eat_mor_bbq@reddit
I didn't realize that. I have that same transmission in my transit 350. Less than 80k miles and it's already going
AlfaZagato@reddit
There was a jointly developed line of trucks designed by Ford Canada and GM Canada called the CMP - Canadian Military Pattern. Not directly initiated by the government, either. Ford and GM pursued the project together, then presented it for review.
majoroutage@reddit
Eh, I wouldn't have been surprised at all if it was, just in different markets.
E28forever@reddit
Fort?
Seriously?
DarthMeow504@reddit
Ooops. Fixed.
SkippyNordquist@reddit (OP)
There are Renault-Dodges, but sadly no Chevy-Fords.
_Pigdog@reddit
I love mine, pump the brakes and you can nose stand
justagearheadweeb@reddit
They sold a lot of these in Brazil, as the Asia Towner. It's known here as the hot-dog van.
Mike_Abergail@reddit
This is my favorite. Want to own one soon.
The_Elicitor@reddit
Now there's a challenge idea, rebuild one using parts from every rebadged version lol
b16b34r@reddit
Still sell in Mexico as a local brand
OhioTry@reddit
That logo looks a lot like Ford’s.
sussywanker@reddit
I didnt know that the Suzuki carry was still sold in so many places.
officialsanic@reddit
YES FORD PRONTO PLEASE IMPORT TAIWANESE CARS TO THE STATES PEOPLE
chaddbrochill@reddit
I just watched a video about this earlier today!
maximstar00@reddit
It was called the Maruti Omni and was the preferred vehicle for kidnappers.
NachoNachoDan@reddit
Funny you say that. Myself and three of my friends were kidnapped in one while on spring break in St. Thomas in college.
They weren’t too bright. As soon as both of them got in the driver and passenger seat I popped open the sliding door they forgot to lock and out along with my buddy sitting next to me. my other two friends told the kidnappers to take them to an ATM and as soon as they stepped out of the vehicle they took off running. Good times.
nephelokokkygia@reddit
???
Was there a rash of kidnappings at the time or something?
NachoNachoDan@reddit
Who knows 🤷 I can confirm there is a non-zero number of them happening.
SkippyNordquist@reddit (OP)
Small, maneuverable, sliding doors, makes sense, especially in the big cities in India.
Mr_Vacant@reddit
Richard Hammond highsided one on Top Gear doing a slalom challenge. And I really do mean highsided, not rolled.
karutura@reddit
Bjuutiful!
Taucher1979@reddit
In the U.K. in the 80s and 90s you would see these fairly often and they’d be a Bedford, Suzuki or Vauxhall as they were all available at the same time, as far as I am aware.
roy107@reddit
Absolute staple of my childhood years. Every window cleaner, builders merchants and decorator seemed to have one.
Don't forget there was also the larger Bedford (later Vauxhall) Midi, which was also everywhere. Then they all disappeared.
Taucher1979@reddit
I couldn’t picture a Bedford midi so googled it and yeah that’s a once familiar sight I haven’t seen or thought about for probably 20/25 years! Totally right they were so common once.
Kinelll@reddit
I had many versions of this van and the HiAce. None roadworthy really on proper roads but Guernsey is different eh.
Got a Midi (with parquet flooring). It was like a bus comparatively. Not having a working brake servo made it interesting though.
Kubrick_Fan@reddit
My local council in the UK used them for many years, i think they still have one or two
businessaffairs@reddit
It was a DAIHATSU as well
SkippyNordquist@reddit (OP)
No, it looks similar, but Daihatsu had their own kei van, the Hijet. That one was also sold as a Piaggio.
FancyMan_@reddit
There was a camper version in the UK called the Bedford Bambi
Fine-Huckleberry4165@reddit
It had also been marketed without any branding (although the official make for registration purposes was probably "GM"), simply as Damas and Labo, in Korea. When GM closed the Daewoo brand most of the former Daewoo models were re-badged as Chevrolet, but Labo and Damas were left orphaned, with no brand.
CivilRightsEnjoyer@reddit
God I wish they sold something remotely like this in the states (that’s also highway safe lol)
Wizard-In-Disguise@reddit
Build a bed in there with a heater and you're mr. worldwide
JakeGrey@reddit
I've seen actual campervans built on the chassis of one of these. Not the most spacious option but might conceivably fit in a European driveway, if nothing else.
Meat2480@reddit
And Sooty
speedyundeadhittite@reddit
Always wanted to have one, never brave enough to do it.
Ciordad@reddit
I’ve owned the Suzuki Carry 850 and Super Carry 1000. So much fun ~~bouncing~~ driving around the city! Of course, you were the crumple zone and the airbag, but still: great little cars for hauling around stuff.
