Have you been to Mallorca in the last month?

Hey all, Me and the family are going to Mallorca this summer and I’ve seen some articles about locals being upset and protesting against tourists. I’d rather not have someone shouting in my face when going for a drink or meal. Has anyone been in the last few weeks and is it really that bad or has it disrupted your time there? Thanks!

I’m sure if you keep yourselves to yourselves you’ll be fine. It’s a very popular tourist destination but on a holiday like that you’ll probably be in your resort/villa the majority of the time anyway

I went to Palma and had no issues at all. Walked around a market, street food stalls, by a cathedral, to a beach, got a taxi, had a drink in a bar - all good.

I get the feeling with all of these reports it is certain areas, maybe working class areas near the city where locals are being forced out because of cheap air B&Bs. There are similar things in the UK with second home owners. But it is not like you in a tourist bar in a tourist area are going to get set upon.

This is mostly sensationalist journalism. Have seen the same narrative regarding the Canary Islands. I have an apartment in Lanzarote, and my partner's mum lives full time in Marbella. Neither of us, in either location, have seen or heard of any protests. I think some places are fed up with drunken louts who have no respect for their surroundings, understandably, but you should be able to holiday in peace.

I think this is more geared towards Ibiza and Magaluf. We go to Majorca fairly regularly, went a few weeks ago for a week, and have never experienced anything other than nice, pleasant locals. Admittedly we aren't really 'drinkers' or disrespectful to anyone in any way shape or form. We go as a family unit, so miles apart from the typical 'boozed up Brit abroad. We just like exploring and making the most of our time on the beautiful island, as do most tourists who aren't there to get pissed up. So unless this is you, I'm sure you'll be fine OP :) enjoy!

Our friends went to Palna Nova a few weeks back, did a few trips out in the car, they never mentioned anything about being hounded or harassed. I’ve not seen the coverage recently but I’m in Turkey and a few people have mentioned that they don’t want tourists and it’s put them off going. It doesn’t make any sense really as tourists bring a lot of money into the island. We usually go Mallorca every year but I feel we’ve been priced out this year. It’s nearly double for a hotel that we stopped in 5 years ago and we spend on average £220 a day on eating and drinking. It’s gone crazy money, I know that much.

Pretty much every Spanish island is getting the same coverage now. It's mostly targeted at boozed up Brits abroad and the islands historically building their tourism industries off of it. For the most part I think normal tourism is still good
