Question about "grip" used as slang.

So in a recently locked post I noticed someone saying that they never used to use "hella" but instead used "grip". And then they were asked to give an example and responded: "Nah like that’s a grip of whatever like it’s alot, at least in the northeast". Curiously I'm also from the Northeast and I actually did hear "hella" used and used a lot but I've never heard anyone use "grip" in that fashion as best as I can recall. I was wondering what time period did people use the term "grip" to mean a lot of? Was it just hyper local to a tiny portion of the Northeast? I just can't seem to recall ever having heard anyone use "grip" like that in the Northeast or anywhere else.
