At what point did we get SO obsessed with these generation labels like Gen Z, Boomer etc?

These days I literally can't go on the internet without seeing some news article like "This is the difference between Gen Z and Millennials' work ethic" or "Gen X are mostly likely to \_\_\_\_\_\_\_ compared to other generations" or "This new Gen Z workplace behaviour is trending on TikTok" . I know these labels have existed for a while but they were not used nearly as much as they are now. I feel like there was a specific turning point where the media became absolutely obsessed with these terms, but can't identify it. What do you think it was?
