Is Keller actually a good place to live?

About to move to Keller in a month or two. I saw a post from a while ago asking about Keller, but since it's been a while, wanted to get an update. Is it good for a high schooler? What about events and stuff going on in that area? Thanks

Lived here since 2011 . Pretty safe location to raise a family

Yes definitely. The fire dept is amazing there

Definitely a suburb I would avoid, second only to Southlake due to the infusion of funds from the religious right into PAC's (yes, PAC's!!!) to control the school board and the related drama any parent will sooner or later get dragged screaming and kicking into whether they think it can be avoided or not:

Does your high schooler need to be injected into this level of political drama on top of being a teen? Unless this is your ideal environment, I'd imagine being caught up in this drama would be a nightmare.
As others have noted, Keller is not easy to commute to most places in the DFW metroplex, so unless you're working from home you seriously need to look at the travel times during rush hour for any community in the metroplex because of the constant road construction required as 1-lane roads just can't carry the commuters and the construction doesn't occur with meaningful progress or timelines making it even worse. Something to also be aware of is a friend who attended their daughter's high school graduation this past weekend told me was the demographics have changed in their city to where it was once a predominately white 'burb of Dallas but was now truly blended and why so many new communities are popping up even farther out from Dallas - they're POC and when they moved into the city were a bit uncomfortable being in the minority but things changed, for the better, as the races blended and the children didn't live in a segregated environment any longer. Something to consider when you're looking at the different suburbs, I'm hoping you're not looking for one being lobbied into a totalitarianism state. A friend of mine recently went to teach in KISD in their high school, and being of sound mind left there silently to ensure they made it out without any scars on their teaching cert's due to the school board's direction. He could not handle the controlling aspects of the district as he was a veteran and couldn't tolerate what he felt was restrictions on the freedom of speech of students. FWIW.

It’s fine, but nothing to write home about. It’s solid middle class with a dash of upper and the schools have a good reputation. I don’t keep up with it anymore, but had heard that the area of Fort Worth that is zoned to Keller ISD is not good and that the schools were headed in a downward trajectory.

I like it it's close to everything. Pretty safe place and good school district. Close to Southlake and Alliance area depending on what part of Keller you can be minutes from any wal marts and targets and plenty of grocery stores of all kinds.

Depends if you like white Christian Nationalist controlling your school board, and cops that tend to go after any shade darker than mayonnaise. Keller is Southlake-lite.
There really is no culture, events you kinda of have to travel, and it can be a pain to get in and out of.

I prefer flower mound/coppell area over Keller.

I can’t comment on high school life. But we have preschoolers and here is our impressions after four years.
PROS - Very safe - Good public amenities: great library, parks, rec center - Green - Clean - Lots of sports & opportunities to be active - Lots of fun events for kids: Easter egg hunts, Halloween candy, etc. - Excellent school system
CONS - Boring and mono-cultural: we have to drive to Carrollton for good Asian food and the nearest Ethiopian restaurant is in Arlington - Super white and conservative. I’ve heard some stories about the challenges of growing up black here. - Lacks events for adults: no museums, no night life - Very dangerous for pedestrians and bikers. We’ve had several recent cases of kids on bicycles getting hit by trucks.
If you can, move here with your kids when they’re little. It’s also a great place to retire. But you’ll need to drive down to Dallas or Fort Worth for anything fun.

Another con is it's not a great location if you're trying to get to other places in dfw. Depending on where you work it can be really hard. I worked in Saginaw, and it took me 25 minutes on a good day from keller. I moved to arlington, almost twice the distance, and it still took me 25 minutes to get to saginaw. Keller is a good drive from any major highways.
When you say high school, there are a lot of variables. Keller isd has 4 high schools currently, and only 1 predominantly serves the city of keller. At all the high schools, the student bodies are large and extremely competitive in grades. There is also very little diversity in terms of experiences and opportunities compared to other areas of dfw. It has long been referred to as "the bubble."

Keller schools are not good. Better going to a BISD Birdville. Birdville schools have open enrollment if you chose to apply to an out of district school.

Pretty good for a high school. I had a lot of friends in that school district and they had a much better schooling. It seemed competitive for sure though and I was in top 10% at my school outside KISD, but am sure I'd be top 25% or lower otherwise. Their AP classes go hard. If you're a minority, it's a pretty jarring area for sure. I knew Asian people in college who came from there that talked about being tokenized and they said that also if you're African American, you'll probably get pulled over quite a bit for minor shit.
