What's your favourite Mythbusters episode?

I really enjoy the show, and would like to know what everyone's favourite episode is or if that's too difficult which season.
jacobmrley@reddit
The hot water heater. I mean c'mon, no failure was more spectacular.
Imaginary-Wrap-8487@reddit
Fun fact: My crazy dad seen that episode 20yrs ago and removed the hot water heater from our family home out of fear it would blow up. My childhood and teen years are filled with traumatic memories of bathing out of a bucket for years on end and being made fun of because of it. Not having hot water has caused more trauma than i could ever explain over the years and to this day my dad still bathes out of a bucket (he's 60yrs old) becauseof this episode. Little did i know back then as a 10yr old kid just how devastating and long lasting the consequences of such an innocent episode of tv would have on my life. I had forgotten about the episode for over 20yrs when I randomly came across it literally only a few hours ago and my heart sunk. Was this the reason my crazy conspiracy addicted father has ripped out the hot water heater all those years ago and just straight up refused to ever let anyone put another one in and get aggressive when anyone mentioned it? I think so. I fucking think so. My dad is not a smart man.
jacobmrley@reddit
Dad clearly was the type to read the headline and not the article. That's a rough story.
the-baum-corsair@reddit
Is he Karl Pilkington?
serpicodegallo@reddit
Dilkington, actually
Imaginary-Wrap-8487@reddit
100% that type of guy. Also the type of guy to not even read it but be convinced that people are after him and fully convinced he is right about it. Sorry for the overshare lol it's funny how the butterfly effect works sometimes
RaynSideways@reddit
Adam is very interactive on the web and he'd probably love/be slightly horrified to hear that story.
RaynSideways@reddit
Wow. They even say during the episode that they had to go really far out of their way to make the heaters explode like that. Like, removing literally every safety feature and sealing the automatic pressure release valve.
root54@reddit
I mean, any time they blew something up in a spectacular way...
The one that tickles me is the original Big Boom: exploding cement truck.
wilcobanjo@reddit
We wanted to see if you could use explosives to clear cement out of a truck. Welp, there's no cement, there's no truck...
flynnfx@reddit
So, analysis says: explosives make excellent cement cleaners!
:)
root54@reddit
There's your problem
jacobmrley@reddit
But the water heater launching like that was so unexpected. With the amount of explosive they put on that cement mixer, there was no doubt it would be decimated. But no one thought the water heater would launch 500 feet in the air like it did. Blow up? Maybe. Fling into the air and flutter like a balloon with its air let out? A possibility. But a lift off nasa would be jealous of? It was the myth, sure, but that result was amazing.
root54@reddit
For sure the water heater was amazing, but they closed a highway for the cement truck and had to watch it from the next hill over.
JezmundBeserker@reddit
I love how you put that! That really was spectacular! They even used it in an episode of CSI Miami after the mythbusters episode showed up. It was a house fire on CSI and when the fireman cleared the fire, they forgot to turn off the pilot light underneath the hot water heater and that thing launched itself way way into the air landing right on one of the lead cops brand new cars lol
revchewie@reddit
Which one?
Previous_Gas_9132@reddit
Duct Tape Island. Adam and Jamie making clothes, waterskins, hammocks, animal traps and an escape boat out of duct tape is peak. Especially when Adam basically adopted the chicken he caught.

Cars colliding at 50 mph vs 100 mph.

Same
YayaZoro1@reddit
Jamie. He said it in an interview he did in front of a crowd.
Thealmightyfug@reddit
Shooting a ball out of a truck the same speed as the truck
YayaZoro1@reddit
Jaime said he wanted to be shot out like the ball bust the producers wouldnt let him. Woulda been so cool!
GodzillaGames88@reddit
Wait, wasn't that one Tori?
N4BFR@reddit
That was a good one. Another physics principles myth.
GodzillaGames88@reddit
Gotta be Salsa escape. Not only did it showcase how Adam and Jamie function for YEARS to come, it also had the Cement Truck Explosion. That episode is the zenith of what Mythbusters should be. A perfect episode that shows how these guys synergize.
Consistent_Adagio_93@reddit
Lead balloon is a great episode, but the duct tape ones will always have a special place in my heart. I actually got to see their duct tape boat from duct tape Island in person, which was like the best day ever? It was my favorite episode as a kid.
tomasrindelmino@reddit
Mitos de los ninjas 1! De nene me obsesionaba con el de caminar sobre el agua, que también buscaba telgopor para crear mis propias zapatillas XD, y mi hermana mayor creaba esa mezcla de agua y almidon de maiz para que la golpeasemos
Personal_Holiday9484@reddit
Any of the middle seasons where the Build Team are testing explosive myths or goofy myths. Adam and Jamie are great, but the build team had undeniable chemistry together and charm for days

Do u think grant and Cary smashed

Dumpster diving. I found the confirmation of the diving myth morbidly satisfying.

This is my daughter’s fave!
ackermann@reddit
I have a 2 month old daughter, first kid. And this post just made me realize… someday I’ll be able to introduce her to Mythbusters!!
That’ll be so much fun, I can’t wait, makes me excited to be a dad!
ArtistNo9841@reddit
Aww! I was lucky enough to literally introduce her to Jamie and Adam in person when she was about 6. Husband got us VIP tix to their tour. It was awesome! I hope your little one appreciates them like we do!
PuzzleheadedPea6980@reddit
I'm a perve. The do bigger boobs get bigger tips episode
ackermann@reddit
Lol what, did they actually test that? What was the result?
PuzzleheadedPea6980@reddit
Men tipped 30% more to bigger boobs, and they were even more surprised that woman tipped 40% more to bigger boobs.

CanaryNo8462@reddit
NASA Moon Landing is my favorite. I also like the bricklayer one.
ackermann@reddit
Interesting. I can’t imagine they were able to do many practical tests themselves, for that one?
Mostly just interviewing NASA scientists, probably? That doesn’t necessarily sound the most exciting, IMO, but I haven’t watched it in awhile.
CanaryNo8462@reddit
They did several practical tests. They recreated the shadows from a lunar landscape photo with a single light source using a miniature version, the well-defined bootprint using artificial moon dust, they compared the low g moon walk video to a slow motion video of walking in 1g, and they tested the flag flapping in a vacuum as it's being installed.
N4BFR@reddit
Moon landing is way up there for me as well.
N4BFR@reddit
Airplane on a conveyor belt. It really changed my thinking.
ackermann@reddit
If I recall correctly, the pilot of the actual plane they got to test it, didn’t think he’d be able to takeoff! He was surprised to find himself in the air!
(I’m surprised Discovery’s insurance let them test with a real plane and human pilot)
N4BFR@reddit
I recall the same pilot quote
BootBitch13@reddit
Struggling to remember that one. What was the concept and result?
N4BFR@reddit
The question was, could a plane takeoff if a conveyor belt was counteracting its forward ground motion? https://www.discovery.com/shows/mythbusters/episodes/airplane-on-a-conveyor-belt
Moakmeister@reddit
Jamie’s least favorite myth ever. I can’t believe they actually included the clip of him saying he was embarrassed and ashamed to even be testing it.
fuzzy_mic@reddit
The imploding tanker car is a great episode.
ackermann@reddit
A personal fave of mine too, as someone who likes trains
Everybodysbastard@reddit
"SOMETHING JUST TOUCHED ME!" for Shark Week IIRC.

Interesting, I'll check it out! Based on the title, is it a show about cooking?
I did Google the above title, but it doesn't show anything conclusive.

Nah, sorry for the confusion, was making a joke, quoting another of my favorite shows, top gear

I saw the thread and this just jumped into my mind. I watched it alone and laughed out loud when the truck blew up. The aftermath is classic stuff, as well.

The one where Elon Musk and the boys get into a knife fight.

The dive helmet one is pretty awesome. Definitely one of the most gorey ones.

nat3215@reddit
My fav moment from Adam was when they did the spy episode and Jamie was using electromagnets to enter ductwork of a building. “Thor, the God of Thunder, is trying to get into the building”
WorriedPause4491@reddit
The one where Grant, Tori, and Jessi Combs (RIP) from “Overhaulin’”, who was filling in for Kari while she was on maternity leave, tested the dive suit myth where if the pressure is cut off the body would completely get sucked into the helmet
nat3215@reddit
RIP to Grant as well
Jawb0nz@reddit
The cement truck in the quarry episode. What a fantastic detonation.
grimmreapa@reddit
Macgyver special was a lot of fun, lots of team crossover and Jamie’s ‘when in doubt… c4!’
rosmaniac@reddit
Lead Balloon.
2broke4drugs@reddit
Adam has talked about how big this ep was for him!
Kuhney@reddit
The one where they explain how someone with the flu spreads it to everyone and how much a difference it makes when you’re trying to be conscious and careful about it.
ganfran@reddit
The giant Lego ball. The sound it made as it fell apart is incredible
miss_kimba@reddit
The cement truck, because of the pure joy of “fuck it, let’s just do what it takes to decimate this thing” and how effective it (eventually) was.
Only-Ad5049@reddit
Too many good ones to really choose one, but I love Salsa Escape (mainly the concrete truck), the train implosion, ultimate Mythbusters, NASA Moon Landing, water slide, the first hot water heater, most duct tape episodes.
I loved when they were surprised by the outcome. Many times they were just proving what they already knew, but sometimes they got a result they would have never expected. The mouse vs. elephant comes to mind.
I love watching from the beginning and seeing how the series evolved. At one time they were conscious of the cost, time and space the experiments required, then they kicked the build team out to their own shop (they didn’t mention it during the show but you can see if you look for it), and in the later episodes they could do anything they wanted to because they now had the budget.
endangeredpenguin@reddit
the mouse vs elephant is one of my favorite myths of all time, it was so simple yet amazing
SoccerGamerGuy7@reddit
And Bull in a China Shop
SoccerGamerGuy7@reddit
So simple but Bull in a China shop. Seemed so obvious but science loves to prove us wrong! It really changed my outlook as even these scientists as well as me predicted that certainly the bulls are going to destroy everything but they were actually very careful!
I always liked science and this helped me learned that some of the best science where everyone was just wrong on their predictions! Its not fun if you are always right! Its about finding out whats truth!
jjaminben@reddit
Duct tape island

Lighting a gasoline/fuel leak and it catching up to the vehicle with an explosion.
CriusofCoH@reddit
Blowing up the cement truck is, hands-down, the best explosion in the series. For overall episode... man, no idea. Love so many of them.
ddd615@reddit
I don't remember the episode or season, but it's the one about the little girl on the seesaw at the park and the sky diver.
AlarmingMassOfBears@reddit
I think you meant season 7 episode 1
ddd615@reddit
Thank you for the correction!
AwayShop187@reddit
When they made the concrete agitator disappear. A real blokey moment if ever there was one.
Silent-Shoe9702@reddit
First one that came to mind was the one where they try and blow the manhole covers off by building the sewer. Also, always appreciated the revisits. Nobody else on TV would ever admit to a mistake or an oversight and try it again.
mistercokehold8@reddit
Alcatraz Escape

Earlier season competitions. The hovercraft, finding a needle in a haystack or the one where they use salsa to break out of jail
Fury-of-Stretch@reddit
The ones that jumps into my mind first, frozen/unfrozen turkey canon or Jamie’s lawnmower of death.
