Am I wrong to think people who cross a Pelican crossing diagonally are rude and dangerous?

Maybe I am alone here but it makes more sense to me to walk straight forward to the opposite side, onto the pavement and away from where the cars and bikes are. Someone crossing diagonally is acting like the rest of us can just make way and wait for them as they cut through everyone else's path and the Pelican crossing timer slowly counts down to the inevitable onslaught of motor vehicles nudging their way forward.

If there is a timer then what does it matter how they get to the other side, so long as they do it in the allotted time and safely? Presumably all the vehicles would be at a standstill while the crossing is in use and are waiting til they are notified they can move again? I'm more concerned about when I'm using one as a pedestrian and the little green man appears so I start crossing then a driver who is impatient jumps out of the queue and speeds at me and over the junction. I've nearly been mowed down 3 times in 3 years at the same crossing and I was following the protocol perfectly...

There’s a crossing which I need to cross every day and multiple times people have just not stopped even when I’m in the crossing (while green man is on) and I’ve had to dodge out the way

Crazy isn't it? Like how important is wherever they're going that they'll happily risk people's lives? The guy who got closest to me set me off into a panic attack in the middle of the road and I didn't leave the house for a few days! He didn't even stop. It's honestly terrifying how entitled some drivers can be.

Pelican crossing no as you are controlled by lights anyway. A zebra crossing when someone diverts at an angle half way across is just bad manners or just bone lazy.
