Nurses: do you still like pens?

I am thinking of getting a little token for the nurses on the ward looking after my Dad because he is A) getting good care and 2) really annoying at times so I would like to know whether this is welcome or not and if so, what is an appropriate thing to give? The age-old advice was a box of pens but in all the time I have been visiting him I haven’t seen a nurse use a pen once. Are they still a safe bet or behind the times? If they aren’t a thing, what would be a good alternative?

We gave a Costa voucher as there was a Costa in the hospital, and it was well received, if that helps!

A lot of hospitals are now using computer systems to write notes etc. That being said, pens are never turned down!

I'm a student nurse and once have started stampedes when I've included pens in leaving gifts for my placement wards. Yes, all notes will go on the computer at some point during the day. While you're waiting for 3 seconds free to use a computer, if you can even get near the computer you will need a pen to write down the 3000 things you need to remember throughout the day. I also work as an HCA I'd be fucked if I didn't have a pen on shift.
