What's your view on single sex clubs/organisations?

My views on this are pretty complicated and probably offensive to almost everyone.  I think it is the case that if a person does violence against you, that person is more likely to be a man. I’m not sure society is great at discussing what this means to men when we’re not being violent.  I can completely see why a woman would want to be in a woman-only space, away from all the men who might be violent against them. I would want to be in that space as well. But of course, I can’t, for an obvious reason— and this is where the concept of “masculinism” falls down.  Feminism makes sense because it makes sense for women to band together against male violence. A man can’t do that as easily; we can’t exclude men from a men’s group. But this begins to create a situation where *the inherent assumption* is that a man is violent, and a man begins to be seen as an object who does violence to women as a subject. I find it all exhausting because I am heavily traumatised by things men did when I was a boy, and I feel boys in particular are completely overlooked by the discourse as it stands now. Women and girls desire to be safe from male violence, and this is cast in terms of inherent female vulnerability. I think this is bad because it bases justice on an essentialist generalisation, and I think for boys it’s really obvious.  A boy can’t be cast in vulnerable terms because a boy becomes a man— but then if a man can have been innately vulnerable in a way that echoes some things which are supposed to be inherently experienced by women, the groundings of these ideas suddenly look shakier. They are often called “scientific,” but my view is that they are anything but— they are equating something that is *generally* true (a man is more likely to be violent than a woman) with a concept that’s universal (women are weaker than men, and violence is inherently done to them.) So I don’t know. All I can say is that I find it exhausting to have been a boy watching violence against women, to now be a man, and to feel totally alienated from all of this. It’s very difficult when your experience of men has been “horrible violence” to then live in a society where the assumption seems to be this is what men inherently are? It is hard to feel that society might accept what you have been through, or even that your story might be allowed to exist. So that’s what the whole thing ends up bringing up for me.
