What are your thoughts on people who go on holiday alone?

I’ve been away quite a bit but only recently taken solo trips. My first was to Copenhagen and it was absolutely fantastic. I appreciate it’s different as a woman, but I felt so confident and safe in that city and it was super easy to get around. I was travelling to North Germany for work so instead of flying to Hamburg I flew to Copenhagen because I’d never been to Denmark (or Sweden - I also nipped across the bridge) Since then I’ve made the same trip but explored other parts of Denmark and also parts of Northern Germany I hadn’t seen before. I’ve also done it in the states, although I flew out with a friend and we split off on the second week as I was attending a wedding of a friend he didn’t know, so we both did our own thing. Other than the wedding I spent three days travelling alone and it was great. I’d not hesitate to do it again. I love travelling with friends too, but each has their own pros and cons. The only time it felt solitary was eating in a restaurant alone which I am aware is a very common thing but it felt weird, so I just had takeaways at the hotel after that. I’d probably still choose travelling with someone over alone, because it’s fun to make memories with people you like. But if an opportunity came along and there was nobody to go with I’d not hesitate to go alone. For the record, whenever I go away I love to explore without a real plan. I’m also spontaneous. I always get a hire car, even if it sits at a hotel for a couple of days unused while I explore on foot - it just offers so much more freedom to go out. I don’t like hostels, but don’t care for a super fancy hotel as I plan on spending as little time as possible in it.
