9800X3D + RTX 5070 Ti for gaming + AI workloads — thoughts?

Backend dev here, putting together my first high-end build. Main use is gaming (Cyberpunk, ARK Ascended, Wukong, GTA, Valorant, LoL, GoW, Forza) at 1440p/240-300Hz, plus local AI inference and some occasional streaming.
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
GPU: RTX 5070 Ti 16GB GDDR7
RAM: 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30 (AMD EXPO)
MoBo: MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi
Total \~$2,900 USD shipped
Went 9800X3D over 9700X for the V-Cache gains in gaming. Chose the 5070 Ti over the 5080 because the 5080 is sitting at \~$1,400 right now and the \~15% performance difference doesn't justify the premium at 1440p — the 16GB VRAM also covers my CUDA use case.
Is the 5070 Ti the right call or should I stretch for the 5080?
Any concerns with 9800X3D + X870 + DDR5-6000 CL30 EXPO?
Anything you'd change for this budget and use case?

I dont know what “AI workloads” you want to run.
The rig is more than fine for gaming.
9800X3D is a weaker chip for non gaming tasks.

The only real comparison for AI workloads is the 16GB 5070Ti vs a 24 or 32 gb card, ie a 3090, 4090, or 5090. Zero reason to go with the 5080 since VRAM is the only thing that matters.
3090 is slower than the 5070ti in games, 4090 and 5090 are significantly more expensive... just go with the 5070ti until you figure out how you use AI and if you really need the additional VRAM.

Stretch for the 5800. Most 5070 TIs are in the $1100-$1200 range, when the PNY and Zotac 5080s are $1200-$1300.

I wouldn’t at the current prices..the only time the 5080 was worth the jump is when it was 949 ..you will probably not see much high hertz though..144 is what you’d be shooting for in any modern release

Really depends what you want to do with AI. 5070 ti can do quite a lot, but its certainly not a AI workhorse.
I have used 5070 ti for quite a bit of AI related stuff, so i have some experience, I have since moved away from it.

you are absolutely not shooting yourself in the foot with this list, it is a stellar high end build.
