It will be the hardest job you've ever done in your entire life. But it does pay good.

Damn man lol

Let's just say i've seen in shape people quit food service

That’s crazy lol

It’s not the physical part of the job that makes people quit necessarily, it’s the fact that it’s a physical job that also becomes super frustrating to do because of the way these trailers are loaded, the unrealistic expectations (time windows/length of shift), and some of the Gordon Ramsey wannabes you’ll run into. Combine all that with a 100 degree day or a snowstorm and it’s easy to say “screw this”.

The people always posting about how hard it is lack work ethic and I’d wager most are overweight and think anything besides pounding whoppers while driving 11 hours a day is “too physical”
Started food service at 39. Im 42 now and plan to be here a while. Is it physical? Absolutely. Does it have days that make you want to quit? Yep.
But it’s mostly a mental game and it’s really not that bad. The good days at my location outweigh the bad days

I work at Mclane on the extra board. It has its ups and downs but overall making way more than what I was making OTR. Just make sure you got your backing down
Desperate_Fee_808@reddit (OP)
Ok..they said backing is harder as a local driver..I would say I’m about an 84 overall backing lol

Just drive by your closest 7-11 and thats what you have to get a semi into lol. Its satisfying when you pull it off just right

They had us pulling into stores when I first started..I used to be so mad..I had to go to lumber liquidators in west pa..it was atrociously hard..look up lumber liquidators in monroeville, pa..oh was I mad about that and then I did floor decor stores..they sucked but I did it so I have experience with store backings

If you drive out east alot than you will be used to weird backing

I’ve been able to back into any spot without real issue since January..now squeezing between trailers at a truck stop with little space to pull up..it could take me a few minutes sometimes lol
