I recently realized that I turn 55 in a year and a half and I'll be eligible for senior discounts at a few restaurants. I'm super excited about this, but my wife thinks I'm crazy.

I don't even eat out that much, I just want to be able to get that sweet 15% off the buffet.
KroxhKanible@reddit
Several places around me have a notice that 65 is the senior discount age.
APuckerLipsNow@reddit
Don’t get too happy. You will spend all your savings at the dentist.
wolfysworld@reddit
Senior discount is what I’m living for!
RevToy@reddit
I was looking at houses for my in-laws and realized I’ll soon be eligible for the 55+ communities. I’m not sure how I feel about that cause I remember when my grandparents moved to one and thinking how old they were…and now here I am.
Significant-Deer7464@reddit
I got my first senior discount almost 10 years before I was eligible. Waitress didn't even ask, just assumed. It stung, I was ticked, until I saw it was like 30% off my dinner. I was all for it from then on
golfingsince83@reddit
I’m 47 and I ask for the senior discount all the time. I look good for my age so I never get it
fatkidscandystore@reddit
There’s some you can get at 50! I’m 50 next year and pumped. My wife also thinks I’m crazy but she won’t be 50 until 2042 so she doesn’t get it.
Clueless5001@reddit
No place I got has 55 discounts, 62 yes
Ok-Till-5285@reddit
Denny's does
railworx@reddit
Ihop does
tungtingshrimp@reddit
Yes but they think we eat like a bird. The 55+ menu is one egg
2ndChanceAtLife@reddit
I got a senior discount at Schlotsky’s. They aren’t cheap so I should be grateful but I ordered through the drive through! How could they know my age.
Neakhanie@reddit
Probably the big Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme you were rockin’.

I always get the seniors price at the cinema. Even before they had self serve kiosks, the acne faced 15 year old never looked at me twice When getting seniors tickets.
SolomonGrumpy@reddit
AT&T has senior citizen cell phone land that's are heavily discounted.
Knight_thrasher@reddit
I’m only 50, I park in senior parking and get a discount at the dispensary

Just turned 55 on Thursday. Been telling everyone about how I’m a senior citizen now.

I am so excited for senior citizen discounts
Klutzy_Current1069@reddit
My husband and I got great deals for switching to T-Mobile for our phones because we’re over 55!
No, I don’t work for T-Mobile; I was just thrilled about the senior discount.
LayerNo3634@reddit
AT&T has a 55+ plan.
FionaFierce11@reddit
You know they’re not gonna card you, right? Just start asking for a senior discount. I’ve been doing it since I was 40, but I had salt & pepper hair at 30, so ymmv 😉
LayerNo3634@reddit
Husband got called, "Liar!" He proudly pulled out his ID...and they didn't care. He got the discount and went away happy.
PumpikAnt58763@reddit
Til "ymmv".
My problem is that whike they'd most likely give me the Ross Tuesday 55 discount, nobody believes me when I say my age. I'm a little puffier than most so young-uns think I'm more youthful than I really am.
Coppergirl1@reddit
What restaurant worth dining at gives senior discount?!
LayerNo3634@reddit
We eat at Culver's once a month. Not fancy, but love double salted caramel pecan custard. I have the day marked on my calendar so I know that's my dessert for the week. That's my reality, but I've got my weight, A1c, and cholesterol down to good numbers.
Yells2007@reddit
I’m chuffed that next year I can park in the 55+ spot at my local pharmacy.
Kestrel_Iolani@reddit
Just turned 55 (today!) Hadn't thought about the discounts but i keep teasing my wife that i qualify for "senior living" housing.

Love the senior days at the grocery store for me it’s usually the first Wednesday of the month
Equivalent_Hair_149@reddit
great. now that they raise the price of food on us.
Awe3@reddit
I only recently used my senior discount at Perkins. The options were limited but it was nice. I have used my aarp membership to open a Barkley bank account to take advantage of the higher interest rate on savings account. It’s worth looking for over 55 discounts.
PumpikAnt58763@reddit
Hey! I'm 58, too!
AltFacks@reddit
IHOP has discount menu for 55 and older
PumpikAnt58763@reddit
It's like thd kids menu, you pay less but you get smaller portions. Seniors typically eat less.
PumpikAnt58763@reddit
Ross has Senior Tuesdays apparently but for ne, Ross is like Denny's. You only go on the spur if the moment.
Three years and I have yet to ask for a Tuesday Geezer discount.
Cruise1313@reddit
Love the senior discounts especially at movie theaters that offer the discount (although some have an age restriction of 65). Same for going to a tourist attraction.
smokywater50@reddit
Well it’s the last meaningful birthday lol
feelingmyage@reddit
Hey, every little bit helps!!
Top_Management7550@reddit
I forgot about discounts at 55. Now that I'm 60, I try to use them when I can. Unfortunately there are some, such as the regional parks near me that in order to get a discount you have to be 62. WTH?
craftsmanporch@reddit
55- for me-work opens up a medical discount for healthcare, 55 senior housing opens up ranches at a discount, etc can set aside more in tax advantaged catch up lots of good stuff
rabidstoat@reddit
I don't know who needs to know this but most Krispy Kreme stores give 10% off starting at age 50.
GateDeep3282@reddit
You're not going to feel so cocky when you start getting discounts without even asking!
Alewort@reddit
Just start asking for it now, if they don't card you you're good to go. /s
kgleas01@reddit

roxywalker@reddit
Ross stores has 55+ every Tuesday 👏
oldlaxer@reddit
I’m a senior citizen(65), a veteran, and a first responder. Bring on the discounts!
CSFCDude@reddit
I use my vet discount quite a bit. State parks, museums, Home Depot, etc. I do not do the free meal on Veterans Day thing though, feels too cheesy. What burns my ass… When I sell stuff on eBay and someone sends me a message saying they deserve a discount because they are a vet…. Like dude, the fact that you just said that to me means your price is higher!
oldlaxer@reddit
I don’t ask generally but if I know it’s offered I’ll take it!
Equivalent_Gap_805@reddit
I'm 59 and every time I ask about a 'Senior" discount I get a look and am told it's 62 to be eligible. Fuckers.😄
MedievalHag@reddit
Google wheee and what age. Some are 55 some 62 and some 65. And I’ve found some will just give it to you if you ask about it.
FlipMyWigBaby@reddit
THC_Dude_Abides@reddit

I turn 55 next year and am looking forward to getting senior discounts. I survived drinking hose water so I've earned it lol
Chibi-Skyler@reddit
I already get the AARP discount at the Moe's near my job and at Auntie Anne's.
I'm just 2 1/2 years away from being eligible for the 55+ menu at the local IHOP. But...with the luck I've been having lately, they'll raise it to 60 by then!! Jerks!!!!
Echo_Actual2218@reddit
As reclusive as I am, I can't wait to move in to a 55+community and not worry about cutting grass
Sensitive-Rip-8005@reddit
I just turned 60 and was traveling in New Orleans. I got on the streetcar and asked how much the fare was. The young driver looked at me and said “Seniors are 40 cents.” Even though I was kind of pissed that he took me for a senior, I took it!
YinzerChick70@reddit
The day I turned 55, I was so psyched to get the senior discount at IHOP.
Bighorn_R_My_Jam@reddit
For my mom’s 55th birthday, we hit up several places that offered a senior discount - breakfast, lunch, a movie, mini golf. She doesn’t bowl, so we missed that. I took her to the theater that evening.
For my bday that year, she took me to places that gave me something free for my big day. IHOP, a free donut, a free scoop of ice cream, free lunch, maybe a free slice of pie. I just remember it was a lot of eating. And I flew in for the weekend, so we spent most the day driving around to find these places with freebies.
These were among our most memorable birthday celebrations!
xjeanie@reddit
I had to get a new phone a couple of months ago because my old one just died. I went to the ATT store. I pick one out and the guy who was helping me noticed my birth date and told me I could get the 55+ discount.
I was like hell yea! He’s telling me how everything works and that I’m going to save about $35 a month. I’ll take it. lol
CoverCommercial3576@reddit
nope. thats the correct response. please tell me you are an aarp member
R808T@reddit
The only place I actively use my old man discount is the weed store where they actually let me combine that and my military discount to get 30% off every time.
knoxcos@reddit
First thing is to remember to ask for it. I still forget that step, often.
BitchWidget@reddit
Dude, I can't wait. For that and possible retirement someday.
hazelquarrier_couch@reddit
I've been a member of AARP for 4 years now. I use my card and it's discount. Why on earth would you want to spend money when you don't have to.
Flat_Demand_8341@reddit
Which AARP discounts do you find helpful?
u35828@reddit
You guys are getting discounts?
bmyst70@reddit
If I had a senior discount, I'd definitely use it. I will be next year.
largos7289@reddit
F**k yea i'm excited. A discount is a discount, i'm taking it, evidently i earned it.
sherrib99@reddit
I just got a discount on my cell phone plan….yeah old!
Shinkai2008@reddit
One more year for me as well and looking forward to it. My dad was always enthusiastic about using that senior discount that it kinda made me look forward to getting there myself. Lol. Wife doesn't share the same enthusiasm for it as I do.
Impossible-Company78@reddit
Im 58 and I think I’ve gotten one discount. Greens fee senior rate when I was still in my 40’s.
stromm@reddit
I’m 56, don’t really think to much about it.
Wife and I went to Long John’s Silvers for a quick dinner and as I was sitting at the table waiting for fresh food, I looked at the receipt.
Damnit, 10% Senior Discount given without me even asking or being told.
“Fuck I’m old” hit me for the first time.
Did I go complain? Hell no!
I’ll take any discount I’m given!
SushiGirlRC@reddit
My mom was super excited about it when she hit that point lol.
BitterOldPunk@reddit
I moved to Canada right after I turned 55.
Getting a senior discount at the cannabis dispensary is fucking great.
Mom_who_drinks@reddit
Sr discounts rock! Who turns down free money?
UraTargetMarket@reddit
My BFF. She won’t shop at Ross on senior day because they ask if she qualifies for the senior discount. I rarely shop at Ross but happened to buy some $1.99 clearance socks for my kid on senior day. When the cashier asked if I qualified, I jumped at that shit. Paid for the tax! Neither of us technically qualify yet, but I’m not looking a gift horse in the face!
Boochiecoo@reddit
We just went to Denny’s for my husband’s
55th. He is actually a bit of of foodie but also has a lot of nostalgia for the kind of chain restaurant food he grew up with, and was half joking about waiting his entire life for the cube to order off the senior menu. So we go, and when his food arrived he’s like “why is it so small?” He legit did not know the senior menu means smaller portions!!!
The college age server was super fun and played along, asked my husband to see IF to prove he was really 55!
lidder444@reddit
The 18 yr olds that work at goodwill have been offering me senior discount since I was 48🤣I just say yes thank you
Live-Motor-4000@reddit
Hey, I’m not above claiming a discount - which restaurants offer them to 55+ customers?
TXCardinal@reddit
Following!
Arvid38@reddit
Hey when I turned 50 I got my ten percent off at Krispy Kreme and I’m looking forward to more discounts at 55 lol.
Robbudge@reddit
My wife is on level 53 in the game of life, but was horrified the other day to see ‘ Senior Discount’ on a recent receipt.
Teammx112@reddit
I'll be 55 in January. I've started getting mail from the AARP. At first I was a little offended but then I was like damn these insurance discounts are kinda fire.
90Carat@reddit
In this economy?! Take the discounts.
I went gray early, so at 54, I'm almost completely gray hair with a gray beard. Many places don't even ask, they just give me a senior discount. Hell yeah.
TXtogo@reddit
Next milestone is 59.5 when you can take money from an IRA without a penalty ..
Itis-caught-BearsWin@reddit
I was super excited to get the discount at Perkins. Went there on my birthday. Server didn’t bat an eye when I ordered. Food was same as the regular menu just a tiny bit less expensive. Overall a disappointment.
SquatCobbbler@reddit
I will still be in school when I turn 55...looking forward to trying to stack senior and student discounts
5uck3rpunch@reddit
