Want to upgrade to a 5700x3D or 5800x3D but they're so expensive

So I've been meaning to upgrade my PC for a while now from a 5600x to something a bit beefier and I noticed these 2 ones here and thought alright that seems like the best way to go.
But then I look online and they're selling for 500 bucks in my currency (AUD) and idk if that's overpriced or not. Considering my other CPUs were much cheaper I figured it'd have to be but idk.
Should I just say fuck it and get it? Or should I wait for ram to go down and upgrade to AM5?
Calm-Bid-8256@reddit
Those CPUs are out of prosuction and the best you can get for gaming on AM4. That's why they are that expensive.
The 5800x3d will probably get a re-release in the next few months. Otherwise a non x3d like the 5600x, 5700x, 5800x or 5800xt are the better choice.
StarCode5000@reddit (OP)
Just now heard about that re release so I'm hoping
Calm-Bid-8256@reddit
Yeah first listings have appeared a few days ago and it was at ~300 USD.
Still expensive for that CPU, but if you don't wanna upgrade to AM5 cause of RAM prices it's very much worth it for gaming.
And if the re-release is happening, the prices on the used market will drop
StarCode5000@reddit (OP)
Well thank fuck I really hope so man
Calm-Bid-8256@reddit
Don't worry too much. Your 5600x is still plenty powerful for gaming. Especially at higher resolutions.
StarCode5000@reddit (OP)
Unfortunately not for Cyberpunk in specific areas. Like playing normally it stays at 90 then drops to 45 in certain spots. It's manageable but annoying
TheDarnook@reddit
I have 5600 (non-x) and I get 100-140fps on 21:9 maxed out settings with reshade in Cyberpunk. I got it paired with RTX4080s. The thing I think I could improve going for a better CPU would be VR gaming.
STRYED0R@reddit
Which GPU & resolution? My CPU is weaker but it's been smooth sailing with DLDSR 4K & 5070
ModernTenshi04@reddit
It's getting a re-release but the price is going to be key. Anything over $250 or so feels like a non-starter if you can pick up something like the CPU + mobo + RAM bundles from Micro Center.
Calm-Bid-8256@reddit
Price is always gonna be key for hardware. The micro center argument only applies to a some people in the US. It's probably gonna be targeted at people that don't wanna upgrade to AM5 and have a AM4 setup sitting at home. I don't think it's worth it building AM4 in 2026 if you are getting a new build, 5800x3d available or not.
With the 5800x3d you can easily skip AM5 and hope for RAM prices to go back to where they should be over the next years.
TristheHolyBlade@reddit
So where are all of the people who constantly tell others to get these specific platforms for cheap and easy upgradability?
Because this is what happens when you tell normal users who don't upgrade every 2 years. And yet you get berated for suggesting that the upgrade path thing is way, way overhyped.
eBurro@reddit
The prices are just insane. Worth more than a basic AM5 setup... issue is the RAM.
If you have a lot of decent RAM can be worth looking at a DDR4 Intel LGA1700 + i5-14600KF (new Intel CPU + Mobo = cost of a used 5800X3D... make it make sense). Get slightly more raw performance & a warranty but still a dead end platform vs AM5 & probably best waiting unless desperate.
Using a stock AMD Wraith cooler with your 5600X or something else?
It's barely enough at times to hit max performance. Can hit decent and constant boost with another air cooler or basic AIO for \~A$60-100. Plus you'd need one anyway if moving to an AM4 X3D CPU & can be reused for AM5... Gives things a little extra life & well worth a go first if you haven't already.
TraditionalMight2951@reddit
I’m using a 5600x with stock cooler, might be a newbie question but would I benefit from getting a peerless assassin, mainly play CS2 and running with a 3060 12GB and 32gb of ddr4
lemon07r@reddit
I wouldnt bother. I was in the same boat, and ended up staying with my 5900x cause of the crappy prices. Then my motherboard kicked the bucket.. so I just sold the cpu and ram for 480 CAD and upgraded to 7600x3d + 32gb ddr5 and mobo through a bundle deal for 900 CAD, which I think drops by around 50 bucks sometimes. a 5700 x3d up grade would have ran me around like 500 CAD, and I would have only got 240 CAD back so it didnt make that much sense to me.. I really would have rather waited and stayed on y 5900x but as soon as my motherboard died it didnt make sense anymore.
older_gamers@reddit
Yeah I'm looking at a 5800x3d. They're currently a ridiculous £550 on Amazon, but looking at Rufus price history shows it's been as low as £285 in the last 30 days.

Brother my advice is to wait for the prices of the AM5 platforms to go down. Trust me. It’s worth it. Coming from someone who had the same dilemma.
scarlet0pimp@reddit
I'd love a 5700x3d as an upgrade for my 3700x just not worth the expense right now. Hopefully the 5800x3d does get a re-release at a reasonable price and I'll get one.
brianfong@reddit
Get a 5500x3d, they are cheap on aliexpress.
PuzzleheadedTone5685@reddit
God i remember when i was trying to get my hands on a ryzen 7600 and the day before i bought it it went up 50 bucks like what the fuck why is it so expensive
tronatula3@reddit
Do not overspend on the CPU. At 1440p+ Ultra, the CPU does not matter much
Dizzy335@reddit
500 AUD for a 5700x3D is rough when you're at a platform dead-end. the gaming gains from 3D V-Cache are real but if you're already on a 5600X you're not exactly suffering -- AM5 with a 9800X3D down the line is going to feel like a completely different machine. hard to justify the spend when you're buying ceiling instead of runway
MoistWelder8712@reddit
Definitely Am5 over one of the two CPUs, but unless you only play competitive games in 1080p it's really not even necessary in most cases imo. People value the CPU way too much while a GPU would give them way more performance for the money. You can play every single game just fine with Am5 if you play in 1440p or higher and crank the settings up with a good GPU.
Also.. 5500x3D is still a good boost from the 5600x in case you only play competitive games.
StarCode5000@reddit (OP)
I'm not much of a competitive gamer, more so singleplayer. For me my gpu is also in need of an upgrade but that'd be further down the line
MoistWelder8712@reddit
You absolutely don't have to upgrade your CPU then unless you feel like you're missing out in multitasking, GPU is way more important specially if you play in 1440p or higher. The 5600x handles a 9070xt just fine for example.
StarCode5000@reddit (OP)
Unfortunately not for me there's a few CPU intensive games that are bottlenecked
Aggressive_Deer_7072@reddit
Not gonna lie, AM4 upgrade pricing gets weird at the end. Everyone wants the "one last upgrade" so the 5800X3D stuff starts costing way more than it feels like it should. If you're already at a 5600X I probably wouldn't panic-buy a $500 AUD CPU. Feels like one of those situations where you're halfway funding an AM5 jump anyway lol.
Little_Elia@reddit
I'm in the same boat but have a 3600X so I'd love if those were affordable, but I think I'm just better off waiting for Zen 6 and then just accepting that ram is insanely expensive and paying for it
DohRayMe@reddit
Aliexpress, Wait for £40 voucher. Recieved , Working and Stable.
Dwarf-Eater@reddit
Go 5500x3d AliExpress!
Khaosina@reddit
Hope that the 5800X3D rerelease isn't too expensive. Otherwise stick to 5700X or 5800X until you can afford AM5 or later (make sure to get the X versions because the normal 5700 is a waste of sand).
8psiMr2@reddit
I got my 5700x3d last May for 100$ off fb marketplace. Idk where you are located but that’s probably your best bet to find one cheaper.
StarCode5000@reddit (OP)
Annoying to live in a rural area
eating_lays@reddit
You really don't need to upgrade if you're already using a 5600X. It's a marketing trap, just wait for newer and cheaper low-end CPUs. You'll save quite a lot of money. Otherwise you throw away your money for just +5-10% performance gain.
SevenDeMagnus@reddit
to afford a 5800X3D buy used from a reputable seller or buy in installments you can afford
syunz@reddit
Missed the best time to upgrade the 5700x3d was only 100 to 200 on aliexpress before the prices went up. Best see what happens with the 5800x3d is they plan on re-releasing it.
StarCode5000@reddit (OP)
I doubt they'd ever re release it ay?

Oh fuck
asharkmadeofsalsa@reddit
it's pretty wild yeah. Honestly I've been getting along more than fine with a regular 5 5600 to justify the upgrade. I'll just wait (hopefully years) to when I move to AM5
StarCode5000@reddit (OP)
The main thing I have is a very specific bottleneck on some of my favourite games, but more prominently is Cyberpunk because it's a quite CPU intensive game
