Dugan Ashley has been arrested and could be facing 40 years in prison.

Essentially, the government seems to be railroading guntuber OG Dugan Ashley (real name, Jordan Derrick) over a misinterpretation of laws around explosives. [Mrgunsandgear has a video on it](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BS_pwJmWslw&t=932s&pp=ygUVRHVnYW4gYXNobGV5IGFycmVzdGVk), as well as [Brandon Herrera](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ATJBDwL056A&pp=ygUQQnJhbmRvbiBoZXJyZXJhIA%3D%3D) and a few other people much smarter than me. I've been a big fan for years, and hearing that the ATF continues to do ATF things makes my blood boil. [There is a fund for his defense, at least](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BS_pwJmWslw&t=932s&pp=ygUVRHVnYW4gYXNobGV5IGFycmVzdGVk)

CarniK Con for people who are younger or don't know who he is.
When he had his BoogerEater youtube channel, after he disappeared for years, I started worrying about him because he seemed unwell.
I hope for everyone's sake he beats these BS charges and gets some help.

"misinterpretation of laws around explosives"
Not quite. Dude apparently did in depth videos on how to make high explosives, and a terrorist used them in the most recent New Orleans attack.
Here's an actual written article on the subject in case you don't feel like watching a 15 minute video to figure out what is going on: https://tacticalshit.com/og-guntuber-carnik-con-arrested-charged-by-department-of-justice
I'm torn on this, because the information on how to make HE shouldn't be readily accessible to every sicko on the internet--on the other hand, it's hard to to support restricting knowledge without establishing a slippery slope against the First Amendment.
CFishing@reddit
Knowledge on how to make explosives has been readily available long before the internet.
dadbodsupreme@reddit
Hosted on Google, ffs.
Sad-Ad1780@reddit
Shouldn't everybody be able to just freely purchase HE without government regulation getting in the way? This is a 2A issue as much or more than a 1A issue.
TigerJas@reddit
There is no “but”, rights are not hard.
You either have them or they are a privilege.
Hedhunta@reddit
Bruh.. .lol, its in literally every science book every written since like the 50s... and every army field manual, and the anarchists cookbook... All available and widely spread before the internet.
If someone wants to make a bomb they can easily make one anytime by simply buying a gas can and lighting it on fire.
Guardiancomplex@reddit
"Brandon Herrera is smarter than me" is an implication I wouldn't make even if you had the muzzle brake of a .300 winmag on my temple lmfao.
MarryYouInMinecraft@reddit
Where's your lambo then, playboy?
Toshinit@reddit
He became rich making guns and YouTube videos, that takes a certain level of intelligence.
Diligent-Parfait-236@reddit
He has never made a gun.
CFishing@reddit
He quite literally made a .50 bmg Ak from scratch what the fuck are you talking about?
CiD7707@reddit
Cool. Where is it? There's a big difference between "making a gun" and paying an R&D team to develop and build a prototype. Brandon bank rolled a pet project and did fuck all to make it. Thats it. I have more standing to say "I developed Ravin Crossbows' RL model" because I was the guy that got to put 1000+ bolts through it for certification trials and rebuilt the frame half a dozen times because it would explode if you didn't swap the strings and cables every 300 shots.
WowBruhReborn@reddit
Idk how true that is. He’s been working on the design for that AK in .50 BMG with his team for quite a while
BHowe407@reddit
Kids can do it.
Tokena@reddit
You could almost fit a kid into one of his 50s.
doogles@reddit
How many MLMs and pyramid schemes are you in?
ErikTheRed99@reddit (OP)
He at least knows a lot more than me on these laws.
Tokena@reddit
I took you to mean Knowledgeable OP.
Reddit is going to reddit.
Guardiancomplex@reddit
That says more about you than him. Another thing even Batman couldn't fucking beat out of me lol.
ohnolagman@reddit
Why would a random person need to know about explosive ordinance laws? You make no sense…
Guardiancomplex@reddit
That wasn't the point I was trying to make, though now that I reread it I can see why everyone is interpreting my comment that way. I shouldn't have insulted you when my goal was to insult him.
My point was "Brandon is a goddamned idiot, and his knowledge on laws and legislation is usually wrong and frequently comes with some truly cringe ass editorializing. I'd be embarrassed to say he was better informed than me on ANY topic."
Diligent-Parfait-236@reddit
You would need to know the laws better than him to know that.
HNL2BOS@reddit
don't sell yourself short on calling mrgunsandgear being smarter than you...
NaperVillainBunny@reddit
What's your problem with him
MarryYouInMinecraft@reddit
He's vaguely conservative-coded so he must be a heckin dumb redneck!
itsvalleyforge@reddit
Probably politics.
Phidelt208@reddit
He has very little knowledge about what makes a gun operate and shoot well. Zero shooting skills and doesn't understand gun safety.
If you know you know.
kiacricket@reddit
We obviously don’t know or we would t be asking.
Fauropitotto@reddit
Yes, obviously.
For future reference, any time you see "If you know you know", your brain to translate that to: "Obviously, you don't know, and it's not worth explaining it to you"
If it was worth explaining, then they'd have explained it to you. Since it's not, they didn't.
ButtNuster@reddit
Tell me about the gun safety issue? I'm totally neutral on this , but is there a video or incident you can share?
Elegant_House_1127@reddit
People don’t like people that make free videos on YouTube so they have to complain as consumers who don’t help create better videos to their liking. Totally normal
BHowe407@reddit
That's not it. Lol.
Elegant_House_1127@reddit
Oh lol idk
Technical_One181@reddit
Typically anyone who is appart of r/temporarygunowners isn't going to like gunsngear for reasons such as political takes.
Elegant_House_1127@reddit
Oh..I remember something about copyright strikes or something like that but political reasons? I mean, this is America so..his right? Lmao
Technical_One181@reddit
He makes comments about doctors and engineers whenever there's a gang shooting or event. As well as calling people "high calorie". It's "insensitive" and whatever but really, imo, just mocking the media culture of showing nice looking HS graduation pics of a "violent youth" who was actually 24 with face tats.
Diligent-Parfait-236@reddit
I hope he sees this bro.
Elegant_House_1127@reddit
Haha what mess am I in now? I can’t find any controversy help haha
Zookzor@reddit
It’s not even close. Go check out is Twitter.
Elegant_House_1127@reddit
Ok
NaperVillainBunny@reddit
What kind of weirdo downvotes me for asking a genuine question?
I never claimed he was a genius. I don't have a problem with him, either. He puts out content that furthers our cause. The armed scholar is on a different level. MG&G doesn't do that.
These people make money online. The beautiful thing is that there are buttons to stop seeing people's content if you don't like it. It's pretty simple.
HNL2BOS@reddit
His gun content is fine, I think a lot of his other stuff is just clickbait garbage and have been ignoring it for awhile now. But also people need to stop thinking others with YouTube channels or influencer pull are "smart."
sardaukarqc@reddit
For anyone wondering who the hell that even is and why you should care.
poopbutt42069yeehaw@reddit
I have no idea who that is or what this is about
GenericUsername817@reddit
https://youtu.be/vuQzPXDMZpI?si=ic7YipdHOjUdBLJs
Porky5CO@reddit
I looked up his YouTube. It's very small and he does how to make explosives lol
Rdubya291@reddit
Which isn't illegal, BTW. Only illegal to sell it it (at least the charges they are trying to get to stick).
So we'll see.
Porky5CO@reddit
Yeah, I've never been into or looked at that stuff so I have no clue about any of this.
1541drive@reddit
I CAN’T KNOW HOW TO HEAR ANY MORE ABOUT TABLES!
TheStig500@reddit
You don't know how to treat the customer!
JillierHaroldLamaar@reddit
He made funny videos until about 10 years ago. He got diagnosed with MS and disappeared from the internet, then he came back for a bit around 2021 but only posted schizo rants instead of gun videos. This is the first I've heard about him since that.
PubliusVA@reddit
I don’t get Mrgunsandgear’s point about a slippery slope and 3-D printing. Sharing files with plans for machine gun parts is totally different from making a video where you print out the parts and actually assemble a machine gun. Wasn’t this guy actually making the explosives in his videos?
N2Shooter@reddit
The charge was based on him distributing knowledge/ aiding and abetting terrorist activity when someone took those plans and made a bomb for terrorist reasons.
I guess the argument is when is knowledge illegal? He did not supply that information directly to that individual knowing their intent. Should someone be held liable for someone else's deeds if you had no knowledge of their intent?
It's clearly a first amendment issue.
PubliusVA@reddit
Thanks for the clarification. The DOJ release about the charges lists manufacturing first, but I see that the information distribution charge is problematic. It’s hard to see how they would be able to prove the intent element.
testprimate@reddit
To me the more interesting thing is that he's not the primary source of the information. He didn't invent the explosives or methods for making them.
What's the ATF doing about researchers and the journals they publish in, the patent office, and the "department of war" field manual authors?
1Crusty_Old_Man@reddit
This has been posted multiple times.
He crossed the line, now will pay the price.
CFishing@reddit
He crossed the line of… doing perfectly legal things on his own property?
Objective-Figure-343@reddit
It's infuriating, isn't it? Here's the original post with updates. I talked to his wife Phoebe a couple days ago and Brandon Herrera, Military Arms Channel, Mr Gunsngear and a number of others are helping.Dug X post
rapitrone@reddit
I need somebody to make an outrage inducing informational meme about this that I can post everywhere, including that the VA will not continue his treatment.
accountnameredacted@reddit
That’s a lot of horsecrap. He has MS and needs treatments/medication.
Rincevent5@reddit
Easy, he FA, then FO.
BHowe407@reddit
These people just have a camera and a marketing strategy. They want you to think they know more than you. They want you to feel beneath them. Sorry you feel that way.
BHowe407@reddit
Sure there are people smarter than me. But I wouldn't say they are smarter because they are influencers. They are likely more narcissistic than me. For sure. I don't just give my power away.
