Looks like I've managed to live long enough to see the mass death ball really start rolling downhill.
So that sucks.

Honestly, this one was 100% avoidable if not for trump

One crazy 79 year old idiot vs millions of human beings
And the world chooses the idiot
Grand-Page-1180@reddit
The U.S. chose the idiot, its the rest of the world (and us) that's paying the price.
Pap3rStreetSoapCo@reddit
We didn’t even choose the idiot; something like a third of registered voters chose him (can’t remember the numbers, exactly), and that’s if we take the results at face value and don’t talk about the obvious shenanigans that occurred. Awfully funny how those people were having aneurysms over supposed “stolen elections” until their horse “won”, and since then it’s been crickets…
NukeouT@reddit
Yes but not voting is a vote of no confidence. So actually there was 100% voting
Shenanigans are a separate serious problem as well...
MisanthropicHethen@reddit
Felons generally can't vote, if you're underage you can't vote, I believe if you're developmentally disabled you might not be able to vote, but certainly many of them won't because they don't have the cognition for it. There's a ton of citizens who functionally can't vote, so your characterization of 100% is just plain wrong. Hell, the purpose of the war on drugs was a scheme to deprive the right to vote of democrats by making them felons. That's not even getting into the role that gerrymandering plays in locking down districts, effectively making voting pointless. There's only a few battleground states per election generally because of these structural issues. The truth is, for a fuckton of Americans, their vote will achieve basically nothing, because the system has been engineered as such.
NukeouT@reddit
You're welcome talking about like 1% of the 33% that don't vote and they're not relevant
Current-Code@reddit
It's still time to organise and actually defend your democracy.
Not voting for him is the bare minimum and far from enough.
No_Foundation16@reddit
Every civilization gets it's pick in it's time. The EU is the last bastion of social democracy and rational thinking now in this time it seems but it chose very poorly in it's past as well. The rest of the world paid a heavy price that time too.
Now it's the turn of the US and fuck me, we chose so very badly. Not for the first time to be sure. But Trump could be the last time. May not be a recovery after a fuck up of that magnitude.
The US is the definition of a rogue state now. The world needs to cut us off in every way and move on asap obviously.
ZenApe@reddit
Maybe. I'm just about demoralized enough to think this was a deliberate deatabalization to kill off the undesirables.
But you're probably right.
Current-Code@reddit
Deatabalization ?
Vreas@reddit
Probably meant destabilization
Current-Code@reddit
Oh, thanks, I was way off !

Yep, destabalization, sorry. Shouldn't write on two hours of sleep!

The collapse of the US has been going on all of my life. Trump is just the final republican barbarian arsonist to burn the whole rotten structure down to dirt and ashes.
There are too many millionaires and billionaires in this country. They collected and bought all the pols up year by year playing the long game while workers slept and got distracted by the bread and circus media BS.
The MFers won the game imo.
The future will be a dystopian fascist fucking nightmare of AI, unemployment, starvation, war by the government against the people while climate disasters kick down the doors of whats left of civilization. This coming fourth of July should be the funeral of the USA because it's dead as fuck.
EastTyne1191@reddit
Every day I am visited by the ghost of my children's future. It haunts me. I am livid that I have to raise children in a time when the hope of a better future is empty. My oldest is aware of the world's current trajectory and has rejected the idea that they should slip into the role of a worker drone.
What are they going to do when people don't have enough money to pay taxes or spend online? When the billionaire finally taken all our money, then what?
ungemutlich@reddit
Sounds like you're mad at yourself because the lack of future was foreseeable and foreseen. As someone raised in an apocalyptic cult I also have no sympathy with the concept that children can't handle the fact that we brought Armageddon upon ourselves through our wickedness.
You wanted children and that was more important than the sake of the children. It's always like that. Even their innocence is more about parental self-image than preparation for the world.
Who is there to be livid at, besides ourselves? I was bullied, so I figured out my kids would be too so I shouldn't have them by 9th grade or so. Some people never reach that level of maturity...

I was going to write a whole thing but life is too short and humanity too disconnected already.
I'm sorry that happened to you, and that you lost hope for a better world so early in life.
bermpan@reddit
It's terrifying to slowly watch myself get older, knowing that I spent most of my 20s exhilarated at the thought of being a parent. It was the number one thing I wanted to be in life. Well, life has been a nonstop cascading shitshow since 2020, and I now find myself increasingly unable to pretend that I have any hope left to instill, in anyone. Thankfully, my partner mirrors my thoughts and feelings, but it's still painfully difficult to juggle mentally.
I agree with everything you've said, and I truly do feel for you and your family, even if a large part of me is still jealous that I'm not in your position. I guess that's the insidious complexity of the expectation of raising life in an unexpectedly dying world.

I'm going to my nieces graduation this weekend and I'm just....so sad. I have to put on the brave face and be a good guest but all I can think about is her future and how unbelievably fucked it is.
And she's better off than 98% of the country.

What bothers me is as those folks at the top make it worse for all of us, this makes the rest of us more likely to give in to our more selfish instincts out of desperation. What I mean is, as the world gets collectively worse, people act worse, snowballing the shitification.

I always share this when people say "This is all because of Donald Trump."
More accurately, this is because of billionaires. These fuckstains get together at Davos every year, and make plans that will hurt 99% of people so that the can benefit. The guy in this video said it out loud. So let me type it out so that it is loud and clear.
"...they have been paid a lot to do not too much in the last few years. We need to see that change. We need to see unemployment rise. Unemployment has to jump 40-50% in my view. We need to see pain in the economy. We need to remind people that they work for the employer, not the other way around. There's been a systematic change where employees feel the employer is extremely lucky to have them, as opposed to the other way around. It's a dynamic that has to change, we have got to kill that attitude. That has to come through hurting the economy, which is what the whole global... the governments around the world are trying to increase unemployment to get that to some sort of normality. We're seeing it, every employer is seeing it. There is definitely massive layoffs going around."
- Tim Gurner, billionaire cunt.
It's not an accident; this is the oligarchs' method of regaining control. Create a storm they can weather without pain while the masses suffer. The only remedy will come when their heads are in baskets.

I’m more of a “grab a pint, let this blow over” type of gal, but this has me wondering if I have a pitchfork nearby. I joke for my own sanity, but this has me seething.
All I can think about is all the unemployed people that the unemployment numbers don’t count. Pretty sure they don’t count once your state cuts you off, even if yours still unemployed. Pretty sure the ones that can’t get ahold of anyone and whose states sites intentionally don’t function don’t get counted either.
I always have to remind myself that they are only counting people receiving benefits, that it isn’t all unemployed people.

A lot of the biggest cuts to the social safety net that were in the big omnibus bill last year don't happen until after the November midterms. A lot more people will be getting kicked off of Medicaid and SNAP by January 1, 2027.

If you're in a privileged enough position to be posting that question here, you'll be fine. Africa/SE Asia/South America are going to be hit the hardest by this, all of the places that were already struggling with food security will see mass starvation and migration.

There will be no food crisis if you are rich. There are all sort of crisis already if you are poor.
In the US, we waste 1/3 of our food and people over-eat to the tune of 40+% obesity. No one is going starve here. If anyone is hungry, it is because of economics, not because of not enough food. And of course everyone cries bloody murder if the big mac goes up a dollar.
And there are already famine or close to famine in parts of Africa.

This is related to collapse because the closure of the Strait of Hormuz could trigger a severe global food price crisis within six to 12 months if the Strait of Hormuz does not reopen.
Poorer countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America — where many people already struggle to afford enough food — are most exposed because they traditionally buy nitrogen fertilizer from the Middle East.
Without fertilizer, it will be difficult to grow any food.

What is past is prologue. All the warnings will sound; no one in power or influence will do anything meaningful, and people will starve.
