Question about Ep 5.15 Power Play

This is specifically about the Daedalus in the episode. Do you think the ship crashed as a result of trying to prevent the prisoners from leaving, or it is because the prisoners tried to use it to escape and underestimated the EM storms?
My partner and I were discussing it and I was curious.

It would be pretty metal if they crashed the ship to prevent the prisoners escaping. Having lost the fight they just like just pointed the ship at the planet and said 'nah, not today'. You'd think if this had been the case they would have talked about how to prevent the Enterprise-D crew from doing that again. I think the Essex crashed because of the storms, nothing more.

I agree! I don't think that's the case, but it is a cool theory. I would have never thought of it on my own and was so surprised when my partner was like "yup, this is what I think happened" 😂

I'm a sucker for heroic self sacrifice. It would have nicely mirrored what Picard, Worf, and Keiko threatened to do, which honestly pretty metal in its own right. Like Worf is a given, but Keiko who isn't even Starfleet just steps up.

The episode never says.
The Ghost Criminals did possess the Daedalus crew and tried to leave.
Maybe the Daedalus captain stopped them by crashing this ship?
I think it was just as the ghost criminals were trying to escape....they were not an expert starship crew...so they messed up and crashed the ship.

I think the latter. It’s all guesswork (been a while since I watched the episode) but my impression was always that the prisoners took over the ship but couldn’t safely fly it away.

Agreed. It is all just theory, and all we know is when the leader says that the ship was unable to escape the storms. We'll never know 😔
