Linux 7.0.10

General notice: another new kernel version.
I have the feeling this one is a lot faster behind the 7.0.9 release. It does look like a semi big release. Also, most to all firmware packages have new releases.

Mediatek bluetooth got fixed. Nice!

I've been reading through https://cdn.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v7.x/ChangeLog-7.0.10
This seems fairly huge for a point release? Or is it \~average-ish?
(I'm fairly new to the beautiful Linux World)

That sounds scary.

Greg KH puts "must upgrade" in literally every single stable kernel release announcement, it's just his standard boilerplate. nothing special about this one.
Itz_Eddie_Valiant@reddit
I'm not sure if you're joking, but for anyone at the back this exact sentence is used on every update iirc

Still, looking at the changelog, there seems to be security-sensitive stuff in there.

As far as I know they use that language on every release.

yeah :+()

The speed at which they’ve released point releases after 7.0 had been quite impressive. Hope this is the one that makes everything super smooth until 7.1 is out.

Maybe we'll get to 7.0.19 before we reach the release-window for 7.1, at which point Linus will have the impossible choice before him of allowing any part of the version number to reach 20 or have two 7.1 versions :-D
Salander27@reddit
While a funny prospect Linus has basically no involvement in the stable/lts releases. Those are all gregkh
Isofruit@reddit
Ah, thanks for the clarification! ... So is greg just humoring Linus on the major version?
MrMelon54@reddit
Greg released Linux 5.10.257 so I doubt that he has a large number phobia.
E7ENTH@reddit
Can you elaborate on two 7.1 versions? Was there already a 7.1 version?
Isofruit@reddit
Nah, I was just making a bad joke related to Linus not liking the minor version of the linux kernel to go to 20. So since the patch version of the kernel would be reaching 20, he'd increment it, but that'd likely coincide with the actual 7.1 release candidate, leading to two 7.1 versions.
E7ENTH@reddit
Oh, got it, thanks:)
