If i found out a classic I was looking at was from China, id probably harass the owner and talk mad shit. So sick of china
pichufur@reddit
You would harass someone for buying a replica car chassis with their own money? Why?
Unlucky_Reception_30@reddit
Because thats what old people do at car shows, duh.
It'd be something like, "nice beijing Billy cart!" Or, "wow, a Cantonese Camaro, never seen one of those before...."
CV90_120@reddit
So brave.
SchruteFarmsBeetDown@reddit
Your anger is completely misplaced.
Get mad at all of US companies who outsourced production to the lowest bidder to maximize their own profits.
China is just fulfilling a need in the global economy. No one else wants to make stuff anymore, so China does it. And from many articles I have read China is now the global leader in advanced manufacturing techniques.
unwittinglyrad@reddit
They played the long game and are now reaping the benefits.
fathed@reddit
Company is spending a lot to have some influencers influence you all.
CV90_120@reddit
And I'm here for it. Not a lot of AE86 options out there.
747WakeTurbulance@reddit
I’d ask how this is legal, but then it’s China and they don’t care about trademarks, patents, likeness, etc.
CV90_120@reddit
Home grown small companies are churning out aftermarket replacement parts and they don't pay royalties on these either. I figure the manufacturer's have wrung all they can out of the IP for these old cars so someone providing a new avenue to call them up for other OEM parts they have sitting gathering dust is probably a win-win.
RiftHunter4@reddit
I don't think the manufacturers really care but then again, you can still buy a new licensed GT40. I don't think anyone would complain if Toyota authorized someone to make Mk4 Supra replicas.
ahorrribledrummer@reddit
BigTime has been working with a Chinese Toyota 86 replica. It's clearly not built as well or with as tight of tolerances as the original, but it works. From 10ft it's indistinguishable for the original.
newoldschool@reddit
was their 4th ever 86 body and it was rushed for SEMA so it's understandable that it's not perfect
their other legacy products like the Bronco has been very successful and they sell 200 a year
I'm interested in the coming 964 and sl300 bodies they are planning
U_SMUG_MOTHERFUCKER@reddit
It’s from Juncheng and it’s the first prototype of the 86 replica hence the tolerance issues. This is referenced in the Larry Chen video.
makina323@reddit
Ii saw the big-time build videos and honestly it's even more impressive that they managed to get the whole thing build with actually some minor fixes out of untested prototype metal.
Hegemonicplatypus@reddit
It’s also the first body that company made, I suspect the 1000th will be a lot better.
boogatehPotato@reddit
Is the issue them being in China or them replicating car bodies for restoration purposes? No issue with either for me. Like another comment mentioned, it'd be nice to have reliable body sourcing for older cars
AndreLeGeant88@reddit
I mean I would love a modern car that looked like a C2 Corvette
kid50cal@reddit
I would love to put a cheap EV power train in one of these and just chill. F40 EV. LaF. 918/928/924. 270z. I wouldn’t feel bad about it compared to a real one.
thegalli@reddit
You can already order cars like a '69 Camaro completely brand new from dynacorn or others and the sheet metal is stamped in Taiwan, so what's the difference?
It didn't really affect the market for 69 Camaros, it probably won't affect much of the rest of the market either.
eric_gm@reddit
My cousin is restoring an El Camino and he has a catalog from which he can order basically the whole car if he wanted to.
Me, having a 50 year old Toyota which basically has zero parts available in the market, see these catalogs as something out of science fiction. I'd love for my lowly Toyota to get the love all these other cars get.
