I think trans people deserve respect, and have a right to live their life however they see fit. I'll also genuinely do my best to use their new pronouns, because that's only polite.
But you can't really change your gender - that's new age progressive fantasy.
Also no, progressives dont argue that man who puts on a dress is a woman. Thats a conservative strawman of the progressive position. Progressives argue against that type of rhetoric.
You're telling me that progressives would misgender somebody who self identifies as trans, but has the misfortune of having a body that just doesn't comport to their desired gender presentation?
Progressives say that gender is a social construct based on presenting certain characteristics - but then promptly ignore that and just go with whatever a person says they are.
The ability to claim a gender - to the extremity of a person with a beard, penis, and adams apple claiming to be a woman - is something only progressives adhere to.
There typically isn't any reason for a third party observer to have to opine on whether another person's love is real or not - although there are some exceptions, like judging whether somebody is with a partner for genuine love, or just the money.
Gender is different because it requires input and participation by the rest of society. If you decide that you want to be recognized as another gender, you are in turn expecting other people to treat you like they would that gender - up to and including things like allowing you to play on the other sports' team.
That's why there is controversy here, as opposed to things like "friend."
the third party can have inner beliefs of their own. but they cannot decide about who other people are.
"If a 19-year old married a 78-year old, they can claim it's for love - and nobody can see into their mind to disagree."
because its irrelevant what they believe. but if they treat them as if theyre not married then theyre wrong.
to be specific, you cannot say that another person is something that they are not. if they say theyre a woman, theyre a woman. its their personal thing, its none of your business.
Many progressives seem to think that social reality is totally unmoored from the natural world, which makes them throw out this distinction as if it proves that gender is whatever someone decides it to be. Not only does this completely butcher the ”social” part of social constructionism; even if sex and gender are different things, the latter, even as a social construct, isn’t independent of biology, but at least partly determined by it. To think otherwise is only possible on the basis of dualism so total that it’s completely incompatible with the materialist presuppositions that most progressive thinking takes for granted.
Are you saying the vast majority of scientists and academics agree that sex ≠ gender because of ideological bias and not because it’s demonstrably true? Lol
There's nothing demonstrably true about any of this - it's a question of linguistics. Neither gender nor sex objectively mean anything. They're just sounds and letters that society places meaning on.
because of ideological bias
But ultimately yes. This.
See my other post just below with the two hypotheticals in it - a cis man dressing up briefly as a woman, and a trans woman making no effort to pass.
It's clear that progressives root their gender ideology on nothing more than the intent of the person in question.
That's not the way that anybody outside of their space looks at this sort of thing.
Just because you don’t know definitions doesn’t mean it’s just linguistics or that it “doesn’t mean anything”.
Sex refers to the different biological and physiological characteristics of males and females, such as reproductive organs, chromosomes, hormones, etc.
Gender refers to the socially constructed characteristics of women and men, such as norms, roles and relationships of and between groups of women and men. It varies from society to society and can be changed.
This is widely accepted and there has been extensive research on this topic, it’s not “ideological”.
Will a cis man socially experience what it is like to be a woman if he just dresses up as a woman for a few hours? No, everyone knows it is a cisgender man and will treat him as such.
A trans woman who makes no effort at all to pass is a nice hypothetical that you made up in your mind to justify your view, because it doesn’t happen in the real world. Why would someone be trans and not make efforts to pass? That’s an oxymoron.
I heavily dislike your usage of boys and girls instead of men and women. Feels... Off.
As for the study. You haven't linked it. Does it also compare cis men and cis women, and trans men and trans women? How big are the similarities? Are the similarities equally distributed among everyone, or is it 1 person matching 99% and everyone else 2%? Are the similarities any more substantial than "they both have neurons" or "they both have amygdalas" and the like?
Human adult male and human adult female exemplars kinda look alike and they distinguish from other apes because they have much less hair.
Yes the difference between human adult male and human adult female are greater than between individuals of different gender identity but from inside same gender group.
The similarities aren't perfect but they exist so itnis significant.
Equally distributed.
Is like brain activity map, and they concluded that those best map kinda match.
Just go on reasrchgate and search.
Also I am not really capable to form an informed opinion of the correctness of those reasrches. But is worth considering them for either proving them right to wrong.
Ok I see where you are coming from, but for the sake of argument, imagine if we were in a classroom and I asked you to pick up my bag. When you ask me where it is, I tell you "just behind that blonde girl".
This is a normal, human interaction where the gender of the subject is assumed to be female even if their biological sex could be male. The truth is that genitals and chromossomes do matter, but not in 99% of social interactions.
If we are going with the "words mean things" aproach, is far more logical to treat trans women as women with a condition rather then males with a condition. Just like if a guy has ball cancer and loses his penis we don't stop calling him a guy. Genitals are not that relevant.
The truth is that genitals and chromossomes do matter, but not in 99% of social interactions.
Right, but we're not really talking about casual social interactions where we can only operate on assumptions - we're talking about a deeper philosophical point of whether a trans woman is actually theoretically a woman, per above.
And I don't think the progressive position is actually as rooted in outward gender expression as you're implying here. Consider two hypotheticals:
1) Consider a cis man who identifies strictly as a man. He dresses up as a woman as a practical joke, and manages to pass convincingly.
Progressives would agree that he is a man, regardless of his outer appearance.
2) Consider a trans woman who has made almost no efforts to pass. Full beard. But she genuinely considers herself to be a woman and identifies as trans.
Progressives would insist that she is a woman, regardless of her outer appearance.
And therein lies the philosophical issue - the progressive position is ultimately rooted in subjective intent rather than any sort of definition of man or woman or male or female.
These terms may not have perfect clear definitions in all fringe cases, but the rest of society outside of progressive spaces doesn't view these things as something that is rooted in subjective intent.
Our society is limited to 2 genders and that is the problem.
There are societies where is part of their culture to recognise more than 2 genders.
Where do we fit a person that is from outside our society and that haves another gender than the ones we have?
It is only fair to assume that there might be more than 2 genders.
Intersex people are an example of people who don't fit neither in girls nor in not category.
Therefore there might be other examples.
Being a trans person isn't something new, there are example during history some from much more ago than people want to consider.
And being trans can be motivated also by objective truths as brain structures since girl (both cis and trans) haves brains alike and boys(both cis and trans) haves brain alike.
Yeah in these examples you gave I actually agree with you, trans people need to put in a little effort to pass, even if they don't have the best body type to do so.
I'm of the opinion that gender is a social performance, not in a sense that what you want to be is what you are, but what you do is what you actually end up being.
That leads us to the question I need to awnser to defend my position, can you >be< a woman for a night? I would say that people perform "roles" of the other gender all the time and dressing up for a gag is part of it so no, it needs to be more substantial.
Other case we can work with is that of a guy that's very feminine, passes as a woman but says it's only a "joke" and he is still male. Well I would argue that their subjective intent is not the main factor and they are, in fact, a trans woman.
Anyway, as you said in your other comment, it doesn't matter how you philosophically categorize a trans person as much as how you treat and respect them in real life
And? You cannot discredit every single idea of a person just because they are a piece of shit, you criticize the idea and not the character of whoever came up with it. Einstein married his cousin and was a racist, are we going to disregard relativity now?
I’ve noticed in the trans discussions the only time people ever bother to differentiate those two is when someone points out a discernible difference between biological and trans people.
It feels like the only purpose of that distinction is specifically to play definitional games.
No? I pointed it out because what the other person said is wrong by definition. Every trans person knows they can’t change their sex, but that’s not what they’re after.
Man I hate to be the bearer of bad news. But genocide was coined a term until the mid 20th century.
Before then , it still happened, it was just standard procedure. No culture is native to the extent it exists today and everyone fights, kills, and enslaves. It was just the Industrial Revolution and of the recording of more history that allowed all of these things to to be done on a bigger level.
Lmao. I’m more a fan of the post Roman barbarian settlement and genocide. Of course, they were only slightly reversing the Roman genocide of those areas.
Which some have committed crimes against humanity too.
You think I would defend the French?
What sane person defends the French?
Or do you think I care about Spanish and Portuguese mass murderers?
They have commited their crimes too.
What Europe did during history on each continent they could is the worst thing that could happen in history (holocaust that is also the fault of a European country is at tie with what Japan people did during world war 2).
Europeans took advantage of each and single part of the world they could.
Europeans have killed natives and claimed land like it didn't even mattered that those were people too.
And still Europeans I the people that are the most righteous in the world.
This bothers me because the Y chromosome is just an incomplete X chromosome so really they're not missing a whole chromosome at all but the exact opposite.
backwards thinking regard, obviously. I'm not really convinced that kids can know enough that they need to gender change personally but to each their own. kids being like 16 and especially below as those are just generally confusing years
Some of you wouldn't allow even a quite functional 30 years old to transition but talk how 16 years is to soon like the 30 years old didn't knew from much earlier.
There are adults who transition during adult age but knew from when they were a kid.
I thought I was a hood kid and sagged my pants and all that. Then I pivoted to ultra preppy. Then frat bro in college. It tool years after college to know who I was and that's ok and normal. If I was stuck with deciding who I was at 16 I would have failed myself.
some of you? I literally said do what you wanna do. I don't agree that they can know as young teenagers and 30 seems a bit late in life but those are two separate points entirely. after they're 16 and have a couple of years of counseling helping them confirm it it makes total sense. one of the first trans women speaks on this in depth and recommends it. she had to do it to get everything approved but ended up thinking it was very helpful and thinks more people should do that before making a big decision after only thinking about it for a few months as a kid. it's not me so I don't care but I don't think anyone should make any drastic life changing decisions without a therapists input and guidance. they often can help them feel more comfortable doing it and accepting themselves if it's truly what they want.
she advised years of counseling, not one appointment. she said that it taking super long for her was a good way to know she definitely definitely wanted it done
Higher salaries, being taken seriously as an authority figure, lack of periods, a lot of positives really, though most of them shouldn't exist in the first place
I can't imagine what its like to be a chick with people messaging you, calling you, ect. all the time.
when someone contacts me. its because they want something from me.
fix my laptop, help me move my couch, can I borrow a little money, can you watch my dog for an afternoon.
Often, but they rarely want to chat. That’s the thing: you can be genuinely interested in other people, but if they lack interest in you, it’s not going to matter one bit. Just as being physically attractive to someone is the prerequisite for getting to the deeper part of the relationship, being fun to be with is the prerequisite for developing a deeper friendship. If you don’t make that initial cut, you can be as genuinely interested in them as you want—it’s still probably not going to reciprocated.
??? Its the same as being lonely, people DMing you and being fake nice to fuck you doesnt make you feel any warmer once you realise it. Happens to hot men too, plenty of them off themselves due to loneliness despite swimming in attention, it doesnt matter if people just want shit from you all the time.
They just ignore the notifications and calls bro. My wife has like constant 80+ reddit notifications, 50+ on YouTube etc. They get bombarded constantly and have just learned to ignore them. If I have a single notification it's like it's an emergency and I need to deal with it right now because it must be important or else it wouldn't exist.
Like girls hold hands walking on the street and hug each other and kiss each other on the cheeks and compliment each other.
Men only shake hands.
Like I want to be able to hug my mate (not that I have one anymore since I am close to finishing my master and at work is different) but yet that is not important.
Why should we call men who hold hands or hug each other gay?
And what is wrong in that, like ifnI wanted to date someone I would no matter the gender so don't assume I am or not dating someone based on jownI behave with them.
Not even that. Shaking hands, a clap on the back etc. are not signals of love, like a hug is. They are signals of recognition of your work and social structure. A men hears "I love you" until he is 8 years old, then his mother doesn't say it anymore.
men give daps and at most do the arm around the shoulders thing, nobody holding hands unless you're walking with your kid or helping a blind person cross the street
Some of those gay men might be full of lust but some are so full of joy they radiate and sometimes I do need joy.
Sincerely, if I could be in a romantic non sexual relationship I would chose a boy/man that is very calm and radiates some type of joy and that is extremely romantic.
cause it's just not common practice with boys at all except for gay couples. I mean if you find some friends into it then good for you but I don't see that happening. for whatever reason guys aren't as touchy as women and guys that are overly touchy are often seen as weird or annoying cause guys like their personal space more.
just befriend a pansexual or asexual fella, they might be into holding hands and taking strolls. none of my friends would even if I were in a drunk stuppor they'd just monitor me closely and catch me if I started to fall lol at most help me walk with my arm around their shoulder but that's just how it is. maybe in more metro type cities guys are more open to stuff like hand holding
Boys/men aren't touchy till they get drunk them they act like they are about to invade the neighbouring country with you: "Dude I love you"; "I would die/fight for you"; "You are my brother".
Like girls at least make out we act like we are Spartans about to invade Greece.
Some asexual fella aren't touchy with neither and I get them like if you could (assuming you wouldn't care at all) wouldn't you be less touchy with girls too (like not want to be hugged by one or caressed by one)?
I mean the only reason some men let girls touch them is because they like to be touched by those girls.
A pansexual is a different thing because they are any point can turn the thing into a sexual thing if they want.
I don't think that the metropolitan railway (metro) matters that much. Is just tramway but that goes underground.
Na mate, there is plenty of it though it's hidden. No one openly says "I hate trans men," sure; but the fact that all trans representation involves a hot lady and HRT being synonymous with taking estrogen really makes things uncomfortable.
There was that whole r/trans incident where a mod just openly said they are tired of trans men whining about their problems.
What? Transwomen are the big scary monsters to conservatives, no one cares if transmen use the men's restroom or if transmen participate in men's sports.
I think the idea is that women will hate you for being a man, men will hate you for not being a biological woman, and other trans men will hate you for…reasons. I really don’t know since I’m not in those circles. At the very least as a trans woman you’ll get support from other women/trans women aside from the conservative leaning side. If you’re a passing trans man you’ll get flack from every side of the political compass. I could be entirely wrong about that but it’s what I assume would be the case.
Yeah there's even been a specific movement of trans women who despise trans men and blame all of their problems on them so you don't even have community solidarity
Guys im obsessed with a govermwnr funded new consuration site and they are building apartmen coplexes on a grass field that that fiels wqs the only un-invaed spot in these area of a metropol, i feel like they are raping my neighborhood (there is another word for in in my language but none in english) and im fucking obssed with it the grass field has no pupose but i liked them people on that part were doing ramadan dinner on that grass field back then when i was a kidx i just cam efeom walk and those unfinished (fhey are building far into the gras field thay there is none will remain unless you go to the other side of the building) apartmens drives me crazy

peanutist@reddit
Sex ≠ gender
The_Law_of_Pizza@reddit
That difference is a subjective progressive ideological thing - it's not a fact.
The vast majority of people consider them to be synonyms, and equate "man" and "woman" with "male" and "female."
grumpydai@reddit
Vast majority of people are wrong.
The_Law_of_Pizza@reddit
Are they? It's an inherently subjective thing.
Philosophically, what is a "man?" Or "woman?"
There's no objective answer - which is part of the reasoning that progressives rely on to argue that a man who puts on a dress becomes a woman.
But if progressives are allowed to come to that conclusion, then everybody else is also allowed to conclude otherwise.
grumpydai@reddit
Also no, progressives dont argue that man who puts on a dress is a woman. Thats a conservative strawman of the progressive position. Progressives argue against that type of rhetoric.
The_Law_of_Pizza@reddit
You're telling me that progressives would misgender somebody who self identifies as trans, but has the misfortune of having a body that just doesn't comport to their desired gender presentation?
grumpydai@reddit
If youre misgendered you correct them and thats that. No problem.
The_Law_of_Pizza@reddit
That didn't address my question - in my hypothetical, would progressives consider that person to be their original gender, or their chosen gender?
grumpydai@reddit
i dont remember gender being a choice. its whatever gender the person says they are
The_Law_of_Pizza@reddit
Exactly my point. Exactly.
Progressives say that gender is a social construct based on presenting certain characteristics - but then promptly ignore that and just go with whatever a person says they are.

The third party doesn't get to disagree with your inner beliefs, because they're your inner beliefs.
But a third party can have inner beliefs of their own.
If a 19-year old married a 78-year old, they can claim it's for love - and nobody can see into their mind to disagree.
But the audience can have their own beliefs that it's a marriage for money, and choose not to attend the wedding or otherwise validate the marriage.

I think you can be a dude with long hair and a sundress, but there’s no reason to call yourself a girl.
pemisinme@reddit
I see your chromosome collection has grown
ImportantResponse0@reddit
I am collecting one for each native the British have killed in America in order to claim that land.
Like if you are from USA I must say shut up you Briton.
pemisinme@reddit
No I'm from England. Just wondering what you think about the 50% of Americans that are descended from other parts of Europe
ImportantResponse0@reddit
They are decedents of those parts.
And still Europeans I the people that are the most righteous in the world.
pemisinme@reddit
Wall of text ahoy. Happened hundreds of years ago, get over it lol
ImportantResponse0@reddit
And trans people happens at least hundreds of metres away from you and yet you people care.
Do you even know any trans person personally?
And if not why do you care about them?
pemisinme@reddit
I don't have anything against transgender people lol. Your meds, my good sir
ImportantResponse0@reddit
You don't but a lot of people do have.
pemisinme@reddit
So fuck?
ImportantResponse0@reddit
I would if I had who.
Wantitneeditgetit@reddit
This bothers me because the Y chromosome is just an incomplete X chromosome so really they're not missing a whole chromosome at all but the exact opposite.
Ya know.
If we want to be accurate.
Weaselpuss@reddit
No, I don’t really want to be accurate. I was just trying to make a senseless douchey comment that I find arbitrarily funny.
ImportantResponse0@reddit
Like how funny is to consider the British who invaded USA to be Americans?
Weaselpuss@reddit
Kinda. Seeing how USA is an English word, and western ethnostate in origin I would say that makes sense
ImportantResponse0@reddit
What country are you even from?
sillycritersenjoyer@reddit
You have taken an r/greentext comment too seriously. Don't do that. This is a subreddit about 4chan. Pretending to be an imbecile is part of the sub
itchy_buthole@reddit
Lol
xvsanx@reddit
backwards thinking regard, obviously. I'm not really convinced that kids can know enough that they need to gender change personally but to each their own. kids being like 16 and especially below as those are just generally confusing years
ImportantResponse0@reddit
Some of you wouldn't allow even a quite functional 30 years old to transition but talk how 16 years is to soon like the 30 years old didn't knew from much earlier.
There are adults who transition during adult age but knew from when they were a kid.
Jonesbro@reddit
No one knows who they are as a kid
ImportantResponse0@reddit
Including you?
When you found out who you were?
Are you still discovering?
Jonesbro@reddit
I thought I was a hood kid and sagged my pants and all that. Then I pivoted to ultra preppy. Then frat bro in college. It tool years after college to know who I was and that's ok and normal. If I was stuck with deciding who I was at 16 I would have failed myself.
ImportantResponse0@reddit
Interesting.
But I mean what would be the optimal age to come out as trans.
xvsanx@reddit
some of you?
ImportantResponse0@reddit
Kids do also get counselling.
And I mean the standard procedure is psychologist, psychiatrist, endocrinologist.
xvsanx@reddit
she advised years of counseling, not one appointment. she said that it taking super long for her was a good way to know she definitely definitely wanted it done
ImportantResponse0@reddit
No one is doing just one appointment.
Therapy is also to deal with transphobia and self hate because you are trans

I can't imagine what its like to be a chick with people messaging you, calling you, ect. all the time.
when someone contacts me. its because they want something from me.
fix my laptop, help me move my couch, can I borrow a little money, can you watch my dog for an afternoon.
Dadaman3000@reddit
How many times do you contact someone just to chat?
Mental_Jeweler_3191@reddit
Often, but they rarely want to chat. That’s the thing: you can be genuinely interested in other people, but if they lack interest in you, it’s not going to matter one bit. Just as being physically attractive to someone is the prerequisite for getting to the deeper part of the relationship, being fun to be with is the prerequisite for developing a deeper friendship. If you don’t make that initial cut, you can be as genuinely interested in them as you want—it’s still probably not going to reciprocated.

Most-Stomach4240@reddit
You do realise that someone only texting to fuck you is the same kind of attention as "can you babysit my dog this afternoon?" Right?
HeavenBaron@reddit
??? Its the same as being lonely, people DMing you and being fake nice to fuck you doesnt make you feel any warmer once you realise it. Happens to hot men too, plenty of them off themselves due to loneliness despite swimming in attention, it doesnt matter if people just want shit from you all the time.
axon__dendrite@reddit
...and it's the same for women but instead of those things it's sex
MarthUTilt@reddit
They just ignore the notifications and calls bro. My wife has like constant 80+ reddit notifications, 50+ on YouTube etc. They get bombarded constantly and have just learned to ignore them. If I have a single notification it's like it's an emergency and I need to deal with it right now because it must be important or else it wouldn't exist.

sarattenasai@reddit
Yeah well what did you expect mens life to be like lmao
ImportantResponse0@reddit
Why don't we love each other at least as men.
And what is wrong in that, like ifnI wanted to date someone I would no matter the gender so don't assume I am or not dating someone based on jownI behave with them.
sarattenasai@reddit
Not even that. Shaking hands, a clap on the back etc. are not signals of love, like a hug is. They are signals of recognition of your work and social structure. A men hears "I love you" until he is 8 years old, then his mother doesn't say it anymore.
ImportantResponse0@reddit
What?
My mother always say that she loves me.
But on the other hands you can only hug those who you date.
Danny-Fr@reddit
I hug my best mate all the time.
Just need to be secure about it. I don't give a fuck whether other people think we're gay, he's my best mate and he deserves the hugs.
Come between him and me and see what happens (a mandwich, probably)
ImportantResponse0@reddit
I mean girls/women don't only do it with their best mate but still this is a step forward a better society.
xvsanx@reddit
gayyyyyy Chang.gif
men give daps and at most do the arm around the shoulders thing, nobody holding hands unless you're walking with your kid or helping a blind person cross the street
ImportantResponse0@reddit
I mean girls do it so why not with a boy.
Some of those gay men might be full of lust but some are so full of joy they radiate and sometimes I do need joy.
Sincerely, if I could be in a romantic non sexual relationship I would chose a boy/man that is very calm and radiates some type of joy and that is extremely romantic.
xvsanx@reddit
cause it's just not common practice with boys at all except for gay couples. I mean if you find some friends into it then good for you but I don't see that happening. for whatever reason guys aren't as touchy as women and guys that are overly touchy are often seen as weird or annoying cause guys like their personal space more.
just befriend a pansexual or asexual fella, they might be into holding hands and taking strolls. none of my friends would even if I were in a drunk stuppor they'd just monitor me closely and catch me if I started to fall lol at most help me walk with my arm around their shoulder but that's just how it is. maybe in more metro type cities guys are more open to stuff like hand holding
the12ftdwarf@reddit
I’ll have loving, genuine, compassionate sex with my homies just for fun dude you’re missing out
ImportantResponse0@reddit

xvsanx@reddit

ImportantResponse0@reddit
Ssyynnxx@reddit
Well it doesn't have to be physical, but you're right, it sucks that don't anything beyond a handshake/dap is basically unacceptable.
ImportantResponse0@reddit
Like we don't even compliment each other.

There are more transmasc on tumblr than reddit. This site is predominantly transfem, so that is probably why
Crazy-Psychology-563@reddit
Na mate, there is plenty of it though it's hidden. No one openly says "I hate trans men," sure; but the fact that all trans representation involves a hot lady and HRT being synonymous with taking estrogen really makes things uncomfortable.
There was that whole r/trans incident where a mod just openly said they are tired of trans men whining about their problems.
Rusty1031@reddit
probably because they’re mostly normal, well adjusted people, unlike their counterparts
sadacal@reddit
What? Transwomen are the big scary monsters to conservatives, no one cares if transmen use the men's restroom or if transmen participate in men's sports.
JediMasterImagundi@reddit
I think the idea is that women will hate you for being a man, men will hate you for not being a biological woman, and other trans men will hate you for…reasons. I really don’t know since I’m not in those circles. At the very least as a trans woman you’ll get support from other women/trans women aside from the conservative leaning side. If you’re a passing trans man you’ll get flack from every side of the political compass. I could be entirely wrong about that but it’s what I assume would be the case.
LJ359@reddit
Yeah there's even been a specific movement of trans women who despise trans men and blame all of their problems on them so you don't even have community solidarity
AtomicMonkeyTheFirst@reddit
