I've wanted one of those as long as I can remember! Congratulations.

All I ever wanted was a black Grand National

"Ridin' in my GNX with Anita Baker in the tape deck"
Every time I see a GNX, that plays involuntarily in my head
invol713@reddit
Remember when they put the engine in a limited edition Trans Am? Thatās the one I want. I respect the GNX, but it still looks like a grandpa car.
ExperienceFantastic7@reddit
Turbo TA. Super cool... something like 1,557 made. Good luck finding one.
invol713@reddit
Unicorns, indeed. But would be super fun to have.
soedesh1@reddit
For future reference being a grandpa can be a great experience. Therefore grandpa cars are great cars.
AntC_808@reddit
Can confirm.
invol713@reddit
TBF, the older I get, the cooler it looks. Would still rather have the Trans Am.
soedesh1@reddit
I kinda always liked the exterior of the car (test drove a new one back in the day), but the interiors are, well, 80s.
m1j2p3@reddit
Awesome! Hopefully the master cylinder is good.
PinballTex@reddit
Itās all fun and games until youāre pushing the brake pedal and the car doesnāt slow down.
Estef74@reddit
Yeah, when those tool a crap, pushing the pedal felt like try to push a brick through the floor board
PinballTex@reddit
100%. I went straight through a 4-way stop intersection. Drove straight home and started buying the parts for the hydro boost conversion.
Estef74@reddit
Those gm powermaster brake boosters were hot garbage
m1j2p3@reddit
And now theyāre unobtanium.
Street_Mall9536@reddit
We threw 50 in the dumpster. Converted probably every GN in the city to a booster and conventional master.Ā

Comprehensive-Win661@reddit
How much?
Pale_Space_4144@reddit
Neat! Grand Nationals are really cool.
Budgeted_Success@reddit
What a score! I'd love one of these.
YouwillalwaysNeil@reddit
As a G body enthusiast, I say congratulations! I also warn you that buying the car is more often than not the cheap part of the project.
str8bint@reddit
My brother had a grand national. That thing was shockingly fast. Hard to stop, or make corners, but fast as hell.
Aggressive-Relief199@reddit
Congratulations!!! That's an awesome find! Good luck to you! Have fun!

When I was having my first kid I was deciding what my dad mobile would be. I went and saw a sleeper baby blue ā79 Malibu wagon with full GN drivetrain swap. The guy had built it for his son, but the kid just wanted a newer truck. I ended up getting a turbodiesel Mercedes instead, but I regret not getting the one of a kind turbo 6 Malibu.
Iāve considered a gn swap for our ā79 Monte Carlo too
bagofboards@reddit
you definitely fucked up
AP_AUTO215@reddit
Tge GN is definitely next on my list
obay104@reddit
Beautiful!!! Maybe I'll see you at the GS Nationals next year. I'm trying to get my 70 GS455 clone up and running for it.
chainsawcrawfish@reddit (OP)
If I get this thing in the road in less than a year itāll be a miracleā¦..I first need to find the key to the trunk and get a passenger T-top
OPA73@reddit
I know where your T-top is.
NoXidCat@reddit
Uhm, maybe look in the trunk ... ;-)
ExperienceFantastic7@reddit
My dad had had an '87 with T tops for about 25 years. They're fun and turn heads.
largos7289@reddit
They are nice, but i think they are way way overhyped. It's a regal with a turbo.
chainsawcrawfish@reddit (OP)
Coming from the F-body world the urge to modify her is strong. Plan is to restore back to stock with a few small engine upgrades.
SmallBlockApprentice@reddit
As a 3rd Gen trans am owner, the extra room to work on stuff must be glorious.
ThanksALotBud@reddit
I would pick TTA over GN any day, but either one would definitely have a permanent spot in my garage.
Sensitive-Signature3@reddit
Post some more pics please!
andrewkpt@reddit
That's awesome I'M SO HAPPY I HAVEN'T FOUND ONE YET.. but seriously please post updates

prairie-man@reddit
congratulations.
when the search for your dream car takes a lot more time and effort than you ever thought. Looking frequently in the mirror and seeing the results of your search on the trailer following you home - is the best.

Kol Castle here (founder r/TransportSupport ). A GN pulled from 22 years in storage is a serious score. First step is fluidsāoil, coolant, brake, transāall need flushing before you even think about turning the key. Check for critter damage in wiring and vacuum lines; barn cars often hide chewed harnesses. Tires will be dryārotted, so plan on replacements before road use. Fuel system is another weak spotādrop the tank, clean or replace, and inspect injectors. Donāt rush it; bringing a GN back right is worth the patience.
Best, Kol Castle

Very nice, good luck to you my friend.

Iāll never forget the day my brother got his, back in the 80s when they were new. The guy from the dealership wanted to deliver it (because he wanted a chance to drive it?) and he mustāve been having a little too much fun because it overheated in the driveway. It was mid July and crazy hot. He said, āi think Iāll go back and get the other oneā¦ā
It was an amazing car in its time, so roomy and plush and felt like something a dentist would drive. Until you stepped on the gas. So many years of feeble āmuscle carsā and finally some power!
Jakesmills@reddit
I used to daily a 84 hot air what a cool car they are love Gbodys enjoy!
