Inevitable-While-577@reddit
The difference is that back then, you could actually be gender non-conforming.
Puzzleheaded_Bad6461@reddit
okay, I'll bite. How has this changed?
Inevitable-While-577@reddit
Kids nowadays believe in antiquated gender stereotypes and if they don't feel they match them, they go straight to "I'm trans/NB/agender".
LongjumpingJaguar308@reddit
Its true, it took me 35 years to hear the term so I could be non-binary, instead of knowing when I was a teenager and just knowing I was weird in some way
sweetbeard@reddit
And straight to the hormones
Puzzleheaded_Bad6461@reddit
Well it certainly gets a lot more press
Puzzleheaded_Bad6461@reddit
Now I'm not going to say there isn't a resurgence of toxic and limiting gender stereotypes (that had never really ever gone away in the first place) but I don't think you're going to find many trans women in the tradwife community.
These are claims that are rarely examined in any substantive ways by people who seek to explain without investigating and which frequently originate from the assumption that this is a bad thing which much originate from something bad or maladaptive: a form of conversion therapy imposed by homophobic parents; a sexual fetish; peer pressure; a social contagion; the ridiculous notion that such a far-reaching, physically and socially risky process is undertaken for some tiny advantage; that the oppobrium attached is naively disregarded; that this is in any way lucrative enough to form a conspiracy to exploit
There is also the misconception that this happens all at once, that there is no period of reflection; that there are no attempts to make it go away, to deny it is real, et cetera et cetera
To make a long story short, maybe ask trans people why as opposed to telling them why
ParsleyMostly@reddit
You asked why (or how), though, and they gave their answer. Not sure how tradwives got into the mix.
Puzzleheaded_Bad6461@reddit
It's an example of kids these days believing and, more pointedly, tailoring their behaviours to fit in with outdated gender stereotypes.
yayoffbalance@reddit

Somewhere in the 90s, rock wasn't fun party music anymore.
MetaPhalanges@reddit
Sometimes I'll be listening to a 90s rock/alt-rock station and I am absolutely taken aback by how much of a fucking bummer so much of it was. I'm glad we mostly got past that.
ReadyAimTranspire@reddit
Oh man, I was a pop punker in the 90's and eventually got into tons of emo

Puzzleheaded_Race_90@reddit
I literally lolled
Jupitersd2017@reddit
Oh 100%, thatās just it, they should embrace it and love the gay culture since they have stolen from it constantly and instead they are too afraid of their own sexuality. People give the younger generations a lot of shit but they are much more open and tolerant of sexuality and all its forms, itās so refreshing (for the most part, sometimes Iām a little like whatās that now youngster, explain it to me on some things, I have a hard time with they/them not being grammatically correct in some cases and being confusing when speaking about someone hahaha)
Puzzleheaded_Race_90@reddit
I can help! They/ them isn't plural, necessarily. If i hear dr. Cooper, I have no idea of they are a man or woman. "They" in this case is ambiguous, not plural. "Can you hand this to them" is a perfectly acceptable sentence. There are many users of they/ them that come up on casual conversation without anyone batting an eye. Furthermore, language is constantly evolving, and only meant to carry a message, not earn grammar points. I'm not trying to be aggressive or make any assumptions, I just cringe a little when I hear people say the whole "they/ them is plural" thing because, no, it really really isn't. And if anyONE says otherwise, I'm happy to explain it to THEM. š
Tiny-Reading5982@reddit
Or if you call someone "they/them" and someone says thats not correct grammar or "their pronouns are so and so".... its gender neutral and has been in use for a long time now before people wanted to have preferred pronouns
Exciting-Argument-67@reddit
Exactly. Saying "I didn't ask them their name," about a person whose gender you don't know, goes back to the time of Shakespeare.
Puzzleheaded_Race_90@reddit
I'm glad people understand, I'm sad it's not obvious to everyone. People make such a fuss.
Remote_Reaction_4085@reddit
It's not a matter of any of that.
It's a matter of resistance to state-compelled speech, and even moreso, the introduction of such state-compelled speech into school curriculae.
You understand that this is exactly the kind of shit that detractors (who at the time, represented the vast majority of the population), said would happen in respect of gay rights post-stonewall.
Nobody believed they were right (including those who were fighting for basic human dignities).
Look, here's the thing:
You don't get to choose what people fucking call you.
Period.
Puzzleheaded_Race_90@reddit
You're very inconsistent in this post. You have some good points, though. I don't have time for the political aspects of this, I'm a person talking about people respecting other people. Have a good night
Jupitersd2017@reddit
Yes in most instances itās totally fine, there are some occasions though where it trips me up when we are speaking about a group and then switching to an individual in the same convo, thatās more what I meant
Puzzleheaded_Race_90@reddit
I kinda didn't think you were meaning anything weird. I can see what you're saying about using weird context in sentences, but to me that sounds more like people using bad sentence structure or just... lack of context
Puzzleheaded_Race_90@reddit
To who ever down voted this, care to rebuke my point, or are you just gonna cry in your pathetic room?
alexvfuerte@reddit
I think gay culture took took the look and ran with it for a while cause it was already a rebellious look. Leather jackets and boots were ideal for harsh weather and debris. Gay people just find leather fabulous...
Puzzleheaded_Race_90@reddit
I think, honestly, they kind of fed into each other. Gay culture took a rebellious outlaw tough rigged look and used it. But I think Rob halford kind of went heavy with this, and the tough guy bikers ran away with it. I'm a little out of my element here, if someone a little older than me knows more on this than me, feel free to correct me, I'm capable of learning new things :)

I remember when nirvana and pearl jam killed hair metal.now they play poison and pearl jam back to back on the classic rock station. We're classic now yall.
Sad-Structure2364@reddit
Absolutely. Our generation was very anti-80s culture and hair bands were the epitome of that.
MetaPhalanges@reddit
I don't think it's possible to accurately pigeon hole a generation that way. If you grew up hearing hair metal and classic rock, you probably have a soft spot for it. If you didn't, you probably think it's stupid. Grunge stormed in and hair metal died. But people didn't just stop loving the songs.
Late-Connection980@reddit
I mean, not all 80ās hair bands were that bad. As a kid, I was huge into Def Leopard, Twisted Sister, GnR, to name a few
