I know I'm interacting with ragebait, but I'll give my experience that reinforced why I got it.

Before I had the jab, when I caught it, I was out of commission for 5 days. I fully lost my sense of taste and smell. After the jab, I got it twice more, and it was a normal fever.

For things like the flu, it's never been worse than a sore throat, or a stuffed nose. This is because of the vaccine.

To use a car related example to relate to your own comment, vaccines are like airbags and a seat belt. You might survive a crash without them, but you'll get a lot more fucked up then if you had them.

That doesn’t negate the effect of the vaccine, infection is still possible but often is then much less aggressive or even totally asymptomatic. You can still have an effective vaccine without it being a miracle 100% cure of the disease, especially with a virus as widespread and genomically unstable as Covid. It mutated a lot since it was pandemic, nowadays it’s just causes a cold in most patients. The dangerous strain killed itself off by killing its hosts. Why did you not get the shot if it meant possibly having a less severe and potentially asymptomatic infection? Were you worried about side effects? Depending on the vaccine you got the risks were still minimal, and you’ve probably had a very similar vaccine before in your life if you live in the US.

I'm an actual doctor and from what I've seen, people who say "I work in the medical field" instead of actually specifying their position, are usually hospital janitors, stretcher bearers, aides, orderlies, porters, etc. In short all manner of auxiliary hospital staff without medical training, that try to pass off their job in a hospital as actual medical knowledge, usually as an attempt to lend credibility to some of the most regarded opinions you can hear about the human body or medicine.

Now, our domestic economy suffered less than others thanks to that, but it all comes down to what you prioritize in a situation like that.

In terms of keeping infection rate and scale low so hospitals had space to treat people, it was necessary. Imagine a town with a hospital capacity of 2000 and 30,000 people needing intensive care and respirators. Not going to go well.
