Ultimate latchkey frozen burrito with the required condiments

You can maybe guess the brand of burrito, I bet. But I still use ketchup and Tabasco despite my age. I embrace my Xness.
Caloso89@reddit
Creo que no.
oldsdrvr@reddit
Slice of fake cheese melted over it with taco bell hot sauce packet was awesome
LeanLeftLoveLife@reddit
WRONG WRONG WRONG NO KETCHUP. THE ONLY APPROPRIATE TOPPING IS A 12 YEAR OLD PACK OF TACO BELL FIRE SAUCE FROM THE BACK OF THE KETCHUP DRAWER.
Lemonking_@reddit (OP)
I’m 1966. We didn’t have a lot of choices then. I’m old school Gen X. We find, we eat. Go out and play. Tasted great.
IMTrick@reddit
I'm almost in total agreement with you here, but as a GenXer I have to point out that Fire Sauce wasn't introduced until the early 2000s, so we couldn't have used it on our latchkey burritos. We had to order them with red or green sauce back in the day. I was a green guy myself.
But ketchup on a burrito is an abomination regardless of when you were born.
MaximumJones@reddit
Now that is living on the edge right there.
kalitarios@reddit
I hope you at least microwaved it vertically in a mug so it heats evenly and not flat like a peasant so it’s cold in the middle and overcooked like cardboard on the ends
PuffDragon66@reddit
Who the fuck puts ketchup on a burrito? 🤮
ApplicationUpper9229@reddit
Nope. Not then, not now.
MotherFL561@reddit
I used to microwave frozen tater tots, add some shredded cheese, top with salsa.
It was so good.
elphaba00@reddit
That’s half the components of my tater tot casserole
SamHandwich0@reddit
I litterally just ate refried beans, chopped onions, and taco rice in a flour tortilla that i microwaved for 30 seconds and then put generic taco sauce on it.
I thought to myself- i used to get this at taco bell in the 80s for like 49 cents.
Anathama@reddit
Does anyone remember the pizza-flavoured ones? I used to put Prego spaghetti sauce, and shredded cheese on top.
Purist1975@reddit
Ketchup is not a good substitute for picante/ salsa you animal!
DLFG74@reddit
You forgot the craft single sliced cheese.
screemingegg@reddit
What ever happened to Little Juan?
subibrat85@reddit
57 and still do. Sometimes I will put a layer of refried beans and top with some cheese and enchilada sauce.
delicousflavor@reddit
so glad i grew up in a salsa having home
peppermentpattie@reddit
I like to put salsa on my eggs
Poultrygeist74@reddit
Patio and Little Juan are two brands that I remember from back then. Always topped with Kraft singles and Pace picante sauce
peppermentpattie@reddit
When I was a adolescent and teenager in the Early 90s the patio chicken burritos was soooooo goooood. Now these frozen burritos taste artificial.
blunttrauma99@reddit
Needs a slice of cheese.
The_Existentialist@reddit
I'll support you on tobasco, but ketchup is abomination.
thewatchwinder@reddit
we had hot sauce. i cant imagine ketchup...but thats personal preference. now im craving one.
R_437@reddit
I had these for lunch today, dipped in mustard and Tapatìo sauce (Allsup’s hot sauce is best- but I only had 1 packet. I air fry my burritos and add a few sprays of olive oil - or - I put them in a rectangular Pyrex, dump green chili enchilada sauce over them, top with diced tomatoes, cheese and green onion…sometimes jalapeños. 😋
Lemonking_@reddit (OP)
How is MUSTARD and Tapatio a better latchkey combo? I use ketchup and Tabasco and the whole world ends here. Mustard is the abomination here, but I’m glad you found your ingredient.
bizzy816@reddit
Where is the slice of American cheese????
CommissionFeisty9843@reddit
Looking good! My new favorite sauce is mixing Old ElPaso Enchilada sauce with Tajín Chili Lime sauce for the Enchirito fix.
wookiedberry@reddit
Microwave burrito and Pace Picante sauce. None of that New York City bullshit.
intensenerd@reddit
NEW YORK CITY?!
wookiedberry@reddit
Get the rope
toqer@reddit
These days air fryer, chef's kiss.
srboot@reddit
Nasty
Zealousideal_Way_788@reddit
Probably put ketchup on hot dogs too
freakymack@reddit
What about saltines and butter or peanut butter
BuggeroffIm50@reddit
You forgot the pickles
NosferatuPoodle@reddit
Tina’s bean and cheese burritos with ketchup goes so hard 😩
Mr_Grumpy_Pant5@reddit
Totinos pizza requires Siracha 🤌
dtoddh@reddit
One benefit of learning to cook for myself as a pre teen is that I'm pretty good at it now. What happened to you?
Poo_Canoe@reddit
Yep this is a benefit. Along with all the other neglect we suffered. Had to get pretty good at everything pretty fast.
WireNoob@reddit
Yum and tasty after school before play sports snack
Xorm01@reddit
I still eat this way. Thank god for Tina’s burritos at wal mart for $1 each.
BluesGraveller@reddit
Resers, yes? At least, that is the brand that was common in my neck of the woods during that time. Still common today.
However, in the 90's I upgraded to frozen chimichangas. Much higher quality of food.
MCLordJuJu@reddit
I miss Reser’s Red Hot Burritos on a daily basis!
Sometimesunaware@reddit
Those were my burrito of choice as well
BluesGraveller@reddit
Good stuff!
GroovyGmaIvy@reddit
West coast❤️
BluesGraveller@reddit
Yep--Washington state.
ziggy029@reddit
Good job heating a frozen burrito without an explosion and leakage everywhere.
Biza_1970@reddit
1,000 degree molten lava filling after microwaving about 15 seconds too long.
boookworm0367@reddit
Or icy cold frozen spots if you didn't microwave long enough. So you add the 15 seconds and get molten like you said.
SbMSU@reddit
Ortega taco sauce for me
relpmeraggy@reddit
Pace picante sauce was mine.
ceegee25@reddit
Leftover Taco Bell packets, 1 Mild + 1 Medium or Hot.
tampaforfun@reddit
Add a slice of American cheese to class it up.
202reno@reddit
I added 2

As my kids would say. Those slap!
Im_Not_Evans@reddit

badhoopty@reddit
good lord i do the same f'n thing... you gotta put the ketchup on before the microwave tho so it kinda hardens up a little.
them el monterey burritos and chimichangas have got me thru some tough times.
Fun-Position7750@reddit
Good. Good. Microwaved too. We didn’t have time to use the oven.
Spreadeaglebeagle44@reddit
Wait that isn't drowned in Pace salsa!!
FabAmy@reddit
Old El Paso was my jam.
Texy@reddit
I just had one for breakfast
thewormthatneverdies@reddit
Ranch and Redhot
TraditionalBackspace@reddit
Blasphemy! Del Taco hot sauce packets from the kitchen drawer and ditch the hardware. Those are hand burritos.
Junebugvandamme@reddit
I'll still buy 2 of the green ones on occasion & slow cook them in the oven. Your entire house will smell like armpits afterward, but if you dress them up with sour cream, guac, & hot sauce they kind of hit the spot!
jB_real@reddit
If I was your parent, I’d leave you too
stevecooley@reddit
Good lord, is that catsup?
aliencardboard@reddit
CHNLNK@reddit
Your family could afford frozen burritos!?
aliencardboard@reddit
Literally one of the cheapest foods around. 😂
Lemonking_@reddit (OP)
These used to be 10 for $1. Yes we could.
Super-Bacon76@reddit
-5 points for eating a burrito that size with a fork and knife.
GuitarHeroInMyHead@reddit
Thank God my mother was a stay-at home mom. She wasn't the best cook, but she never gave us that slop.
freakdageek@reddit
I still eat these now and then, but with a slice of cheese and the ketchup on the side (or more typically now, Tiger sauce iykyk)
JacquieTorrance@reddit
Oh yeah, store brand Kraft singles all the way.
Astronomer-Secure@reddit
I do the cheese slice too, but instead of ketchup I use taco bell packets.
Majik_Sheff@reddit
La Victoria taco sauce was the best.
Correct_Security_742@reddit
I stuffed my burritos with lettuce and cheese and salsa because school serves it that way
GroovyGmaIvy@reddit
My ex-sis in law called it a cougar plate.
SubstanceNo1544@reddit
Used to fry em up like a chiminga 😋
GaryNOVA@reddit
(Sad r/SalsaSnobs noises)
Electronic-Ear2329@reddit
Hated waiting for 30 to 40 minutes for the frozen Patio burrito to cook before we got a microwave.
My middle school aged culinary skills were very limited with the only upgrade being a slice of American cheese broken in half and placed on top
Butitsadryheat2@reddit
This could technically be considered a crime here in Phx.
ArturosDad@reddit
Tucson here. Be right back, grabbing my handcuffs.
Slitheytove1031@reddit
This wasn't something I had as a kid but, I loved these when I moved out on my own. And for whatever reason, the bean and cheese Tina's burritos always were better with mustard.
some_body_else@reddit
Put them in a baking dish, cover with enchilada sauce and cheese, bake them until done. Might have to cover with foil to prevent the cheese from charring and the sauce from drying out.
GAFOffRoadJK@reddit
Looks like a Tina's burrito.
4158264146@reddit
Ketchup is fucking gross on a burrito
Lemonking_@reddit (OP)
If you knew, this is not a a “burrito.” Are you Gen X for sure?
4158264146@reddit
Not an El Monterey?
BluesGraveller@reddit
Why, because your scrote is a shrivelled up sack?
wolfysworld@reddit
On a “real” burrito ketchup would be really gross but on these bad boys?! Hell yeah, it needs even more ketchup and the bottom needs to be crisp. These are a blast from the past!
Lemonking_@reddit (OP)
This one knows
wolfysworld@reddit
I used to eat a couple a year just to reminisce but then had to give up gluten forever and now it’s just a fond memory. Thanks! I havnt thought of those in years; good times.
EmbarrassedPrompt697@reddit
Tina’s?
Lemonking_@reddit (OP)
Yes. Tina’s Red Hot Beef. High five 🖐️
EmbarrassedPrompt697@reddit
🖐️ I used to eat so many of these!
LastOneSergeant@reddit
Ah yes. I don't know who to blame. The microwave or the burrito, but they were always lava hot in some spots while still frozen in others.
blindside1@reddit
Melt cheddar on top with some salsa.
Moist_Sprinkles1063@reddit
Sriracha
BuckyGoldman@reddit
If that is a Patio (brand) Burrito from the frozen 10 pack, I used to stop at my parents house M,W,F between college classes and work and have one for lunch. Always a soft wet tortilla, molten hot ends, and a solid center of bean-ice in the middle.
The_Dude_2U@reddit
Sancho?
AnnabellaPies@reddit
Where are you from that they put ketsup on a burrito? We did not do that in mid Michigan
EarthenMama@reddit
You had actual prepared FOOD in the freezer? Here we were, testing out saltine crackers under the broiler with butter... (damn, those were tasty, though!)
lrhouston@reddit
Just...no. Eat it plain before ruining it with ketchup!
Lemonking_@reddit (OP)
It was gastronomic as a latchkey kid. Try it. Just believe me. It has to be this brand.
Despisingthelight@reddit
damn! I had that for dinner tonight with a upgraded salsa , peach and pineapple Chipotle because im a adult now.
R67H@reddit
Gotta glam that pig up. I cooked 'em in oil!
Lemonking_@reddit (OP)
Back in the day? Were you 12 years old lol?
R67H@reddit
something like that
eamesaarinen@reddit
We never had a microwave so we just ate dry Cheerios and grapes while watching Davy Crockett. You fancy.
HoseNeighbor@reddit
Oh HELL no! Sour cream and taco sauce! We weren't savages!
SaltyBlackBroad@reddit
Memories
general-illness@reddit
Put a fried egg on it. Everything is better with a fried egg.
NeedsUnfullfilled@reddit
Taco Bell sauce packets, used to grab by the handfuls in HS
denvergardener@reddit
Ketchup? Yuck
No way. This must be New Jersey. Who else would do that.??
Lemonking_@reddit (OP)
I make no apologies for my formative years and it’s affect on certain foods. Whatever, man.
TwistedMemories@reddit
I would pour melted Velveeta or two slices of American cheese and nuke it.
Key-Introduction-126@reddit
i used to get these at the school cafeteria, take a bit, then squeeze in a shitload of BBQ sauce. I still do that every so often for nostalgia...then I pay for the nostalgia...still good nostalgia though.

My kids don’t understand the appeal of a microwaved burrito that’s kind of soggy in the middle and dry and crunchy on the ends. Heathens.
