Fun fact: Indian navy has being continuously operating a aircraft carrier for 64 years , making them the most experienced asian navy in terms of experience of carrier ops. (Even counting imperial japan' navy and their current totally just helicopter carriers)
stupidpower@reddit
I mean no one in Asia has carriers because no one really has a need for it, not really. India may have a long history of carriers, but never in the 64 years did the carrier arm of the Indian navy do anything that meaningful. Even China arguably doesn't have that much use for a carrier except for prestige and showing it off - they can't exactly safely get that ship out past the first island chain with infinite anti-ship missiles hidden on land. The Americans use carriers because they sail anywhere in the world to fight their wars.
India... what sort of power projection does india want to do, exactly? No one's going further afield than South Asia, and the rather pathetic scale of carrier wings means that Pakistan's coastline is pretty much off limits for any Indian navy aircraft or ships. So it's just a very expensive sea control vessel with planes that can't do anti-ship warfare that well.

ins vikrant conducted multiple strikes during the 1971 war
Key_Agent_3039@reddit
Completely negligible compared to IAF sorties
Jazzlike-Tank-4956@reddit
Well that's obvious
Also, they were key in the blockade
WorkOk4177@reddit
Ins Vikrant was extensively used in the Bangladeshi liberation war
Pizzas_Coke@reddit
What's the point of it?
the4ner@reddit
Iirc it is primarily used for anti piracy operations in the Indian ocean
GITS75@reddit
If I may say currently that's no more Imperial Navy but JMSDF. And the Izumo class carriers were retrofitted for F-35B Ops. So technically there are no more helicopters carriers.
Winter_Guard1381@reddit
there goes the sub. Patriotic brigading for obsolete fixtures of bygone era.
lordhoobla123@reddit
No. It's a Mig 29K and its pilot
Overwatchingu@reddit
Cats are dangerous enough without giving them access to fighter jets.

it's Swat Kats
En4cr@reddit
If his name is Catapult I’m gonna lose it.
Brainchild110@reddit
No. His name is STOVL.
Because its less obvious but funnier once you get it.
SortOfWanted@reddit
But it's a STOBAR plane? Or am I missing the joke?
Impressive_Type_1421@reddit
Yep, the Indian Navy doesn't have a catobar carrier yet.
SortOfWanted@reddit
But the joke was about STOVL, which would mean for example a Harrier.
urEnzeder@reddit
I was thinking Apult...
furahobot@reddit
That's adorable—history's cutest coapilot!
seraphim_9@reddit
That’s an F14 tomcat.
ali_vquer@reddit
The cat is their most dangerous weapon.
mats_o42@reddit
Well India, that's not quite the way you are supposed to upgrade your carrier with cat launch capabilities
gradozi@reddit
Whoa, never knew Bangladesh had such a badass naval history—mind blown!
gradozi@reddit
Aww, that cat's owning the runway—total boss energy!
areonautic_ace@reddit
As per the cattos expression it's clear that the MiG belongs to the it.
Brainchild110@reddit
Its natural they would have a cat on board. Cats have been important staples on ships for millenia, as they help the crew combat stress, give them something fluffy to stroke, and allow them to make the pspspspsps noise without looking stupid.
