Only sorta random. Lumen Field, where the Seahawks (NFL) and Sounders (MLS) play, and T-Mobile Park, home of the Mariners (MLB), one block south are pretty much under the north approach for KSEA. If you extend the centerline of 16R you end up passing about 1100m (.6nm) east of the stadiums. Sitting on the 3rd base side of T-Mobile for an evening game is great, the seats are shaded by first pitch and you can look up over the retractable roof to watch the planes go by, while also enjoying a baseball game.
The location of Seattle (and especially downtown) relative to KSEA's runways is also why the Columbia Center is likely to remain the tallest building in Seattle for the foreseeable future. Any taller and the FAA would stop it because you're getting up into the flight path.
KSEA also can't put in a 4th+ runway facing more east-west because of the topology of the area, the whole Puget Sound region was carved out by retreating glaciers, so going north-south is relatively straight forward, follow the ridgeline or river valley floor, going east-west means a LOT more earth that needs moved.
“Paid patriotism” in American sports is just so bizarre.
In the past few years, the Pentagon spent $6.8 million to pay for patriotic displays during the games of professional sports teams.
That's according to a joint oversight report released by Arizona Republican Sens. John Flake and John McCain on Wednesday.
The senators found that since 2012, the Pentagon has signed 72 contracts with teams in the National Football League, Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League, and Major League Soccer that amounted to "paid patriotism."
It’s also an excellent use of required flight hours and training.
In that one flyover, you have formation flying, and time over target practice. AND you get to do something cool/possibly inspire the next generation of pilots.
You have to fly ___ hours per month, why not use some of them to flyover the local sports game.
OK that was freaking awesome!!! They missed out on doing red, white, and blue smoke though so points deducted for that. Nice tight formation and when the crowd saw it the gasp was audible. Pretty amazing stuff. Do we know who organized this? Wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't a local CAP group.
IDK... Quick really dirty estimate says you could probably buy about 5,000 Cubs for the cost of 2 Chinooks and a Blackhawk. I think 5,000 Cubs could come pretty close to blotting out the sun.

A University friend of mine worked on them (and Harriers). Which was fine until they got deployed to Northern Ireland and the PIRA started shooting at them. Even though he was ground crew he had to go on missions with the Chinooks in case they experienced mechanical issues. He got out of the RAF and went working on oil rigs out of Lagos, which he felt was safer.
The design is old, but those airframes are not. Those are from Task Force 160th SOAR, and are the most up to date and capable Chinooks in the Army. You can bet they have the latest and greatest technology available. Don’t be scared.

Is the long stick on the front from when they used to joust?

No. It’s how baby chinooks are made. They are about the size of a huey when they first come out but they grow up fast!

Lol I bet someone here can Identify the flight number of that plane somehow
Frosty_Log6972@reddit (OP)
As OP, I remember it was an Alaska 737 but I don’t remember anything else
S_Hurricane_Y@reddit
I think it may have been an E175. AS3035. Only Alaskan arrival to fly the downwind leg around the scheduled time of kickoff in the Seattle area
getyoutogabba@reddit
It is AS798 which is a 737-8
coolmandude545@reddit
I’m pretty sure it’s ASA798, which was operated by N570AS, a Boeing 737-800, according to ADSB Exchange historical data

Looks like Alaskan Airlines 798 Boeing 737-800 from LAX to SEA.
redd_house@reddit
Yeah I was gonna say, someone will know the aircraft if not the specific flight
FragrantExcitement@reddit
Then a video from on-board the flight will show the stadium during the flyover.
coolmandude545@reddit
Looks to be N85377, an ERJ175 operating as UA5252 from LAX based on the Flightradar24 history

This wasn’t paid patriotism, it was to honor the four fallen Night Stalkers that lost their lives in the helicopter crash in September near JBLM.

Would be like a damn drone swarm except the pilots would be a mix of bad attitude Alaskan Bush pilots and Youtubers trying to land in seats.
