Ive been thinking about switching to linux again. Last time i went back to windows because linux had essentially nonexistent vr support. Has this improved? If it had steamvr support id switch in a heartbeat.

Yes but it's still buggy AF. SteamVR works but crashes constantly. I'm using a quest 3 with the steam link app on Arch.
Beatsaber works, hl alyx mostly works.

It's like protondb, but for VR and considers different methods to run games, like SteamVR, Monado, WiVRn and ALVR. As technically right now there is no solutions that will just work everywhere, sadly. But i'm positive that SteamVR will pick up momentum soon enough, Valve has to.

I can't answer your question for today, but with the upcoming steam machine and VR, I think it's safe to say that even if VR is not yet supported, it is about to be

Steamvr is known to be broken on Linux so yeah

I am not sure about how much improved the current version of ALVR is, compared to when you tried it before, but I used it kind of recently and after a bit of tweaking the settings it was really good. And this has been some months ago; recently I have not played any VR games so maybe it is now even better.

SteamLink VR works on Linux, but kinda in bad state right now, but hopefully will improve within months before Steam Frame release
