Deepseek Unchained?

Hi guys I'm pretty ignorant. I was looking for a local LLM to run in LMStudio that will do and answer what I ask it to without the stupid lectures and "sorry I cant do that". I want privacy and something to run local, but compared to what's available online I just can't make the move. I came across "Deepseek" unchained. read some claims deepseek may collect information, but what doesn't.
what I am concerned with is the fact I came across a tool for "removing" Deepseek unchained "completely? and that is what i am asking about. what need is there for something like that? its the first I have seen a tool for removoing a local LLM?

People are crazy and do unnecessary pieces of software, yes. It's literally impossible to connect any data through something which first runs fully offline and second, doesn't execute any model specific code since model are just weights...

I don’t think DeepSeek collects information, I’ve never heard that before. LM Studio isn’t connected to the internet, you can use it locally. It’s not spyware.

my understanding is deep seek servers are Chinese, under Chinese control and in China and to believe they are not is foolish bordering on stupid. you don't need to "sing-in" or anything , but if you know anything about technology in 2025, that means absolutely nothing ( read up on "cloudflare". i just did this week, had no idea. ) Why would you need a separate piece of software to remove it? I dont see software for removing anything else. There is something entirely strange about it, could be the software itself isn't legitimate. That's why I'm here asking but its clear after 1300 views nobody is going to .

I don't think anyone can understand your question... at least I can't.

Yea question doesn’t make sense. DeepSeek in LM Studio locally is not run on anything in China. Besides the download, you can run the LLM weights and models with no outside influence.
There is also a DeepSeek app version that’s ran on the cloud that use you can use the DeepSeek app for, but they are two very different things.

LM Studio is closed source, you can't prove it's not spyware

Deepseek refers to a lot of different things and I think that's where some of the confusion is coming from. There's the huge model, the company, the smaller models that they trained about a year back, and the service that company runs with an online frontend connected to their large model running on their servers. The latter absolutely can harvest data you put into it. And I'd assume they do. All the large companies running them do unless they say otherwise in their TOS. And even if they say they don't, I'm a little skeptical.
But the short of it is that a fully local model can't communicate with outside parties unless it's been specifically linked with tools to let it do so on your computer. Even when they are provided with those tools you're often stuck reminding them to actually use them. And most GUI frontends will put up some form of notification to alert you to the fact that those tools have been triggered.
I skimmed over the deepseek unchained thing and I'd say it's pointless. I couldn't find any concrete explanation of what it actually is either. My guess is that they're talking about the smaller qwen models that deepseek did additional training on. They were talked about a lot by the popular press as "local deepseek" for a while. But they're really more like a quick experiment deepseek did with so-so results. They're essentially obsolete these days as better local thinking models have overtaken them. What people generally mean when talking about the deepseek model is a huge one that almost nobody could run locally anyway. However, some american companies do host that model if you're worried about anything related to china. Chinese model but american servers mean that the companies need to comply with US law.
