the plane that wanted to be a helicopter
DependentStrike4414@reddit
It's wishing for the Jesus nut!
dgodog@reddit
Every plane is STOL with a high enough headwind (or fast enough aircraft carrier)
Shoddy_Act7059@reddit
I love bush planes!
S_Hurricane_Y@reddit
Lifted the flaps asap so it didn’t turn into a RTOL
UnDopedNrestless@reddit
Less a landing and more of a parking job!
matjam@reddit
ok now put it on a treadmill! /s
joeyjoejums@reddit
Stop that. The uncertainty surrounding the outcome of that stunt left me stunned.
TheMightyGamble@reddit
Okay but what if it was an inclined treadmill?
/s
matjam@reddit
lol sorry, I couldn’t help it
joeyjoejums@reddit
No, its me. You triggered me. My fault. Shouldn't be so sensitive...uh oh. Now I'm remembering the time my brother in law where looking up at a rotating fan and both of us said it was rotating clockwise while 3 others in the room said counterclock wise. I thought they were gas lighting us. They were not. Argh!
ttystikk@reddit
It was a clear demonstration of the deterioration of STEM education and critical thinking skills.
I think that's important information.
joeyjoejums@reddit
That was years ago. I justed google it. 2008.

When STOL is VTOL
The_Vat@reddit
Well, VL. Dunno about VTO.
Joebeemer@reddit
Last guy who did that a short while later in an overweight takeoff incident.
RIP.
PPGkruzer@reddit
With a 20 mph head wind it better
Festivefire@reddit
that's essentially a 20 MPH stall speed, that's really fucking impressive.
Constant_Bobcat_1107@reddit
This looks AI? The waves are strange..
Festivefire@reddit
That's called wind.
wunderkit@reddit
When I lived in Alaska, long ago, I flew wheels and floats both but not one of these, unfortunately. At that time there was a STOL competition every Year, I think at or near Keenai. Do they still do it?
sistersgrowz@reddit
Maybe National STOL? I do the online version and both are still going National STOL
wunderkit@reddit
Thanks.

headwinds help
uzico@reddit
Nice helicopter
Logical-Let-2386@reddit
Yes it only has a top speed of 33 mph but the tires last forever.
coffecup1978@reddit
Probably the 3rd plane they have been fitted to after the two previous crashed...
tr00th@reddit
Helicopter with extra steps.
SAM5TER5@reddit
Actually I think helicopter with like…10,000 less steps
East_Ad4977@reddit
And a few hundred fewer parts, too!
classyhornythrowaway@reddit
higher chance of keeping your organs untoasted, too!
akaFxde@reddit
Just saw a vid on Instagram yesterday of one of these at FL 367 (or something like that)

For those who doubt, like I initially did:

Different planes. This one is a Mackey built backcountry super cub. The vid you linked is a carboncub with a rotax 916. Both planes are super impressive in their own ways!
Internal-Fruit-1482@reddit
That's wild! Thanks for the link.
Away-Finance-6678@reddit
Oh wow, it's like the wind from the back of the prop just travels to those flaps , very cool
FixergirlAK@reddit
Nice bushwheels!
ttystikk@reddit
When headwind equals landing speed. Looks like a nice fishing spot, too!
Ogankle@reddit (OP)
I’ve just realize my credit got cut off from the main title. Credit to @akbushpilot on instagram!
Maelstrom_Witch@reddit
.... no thank you to being the videographer for this ...
DeeEmm@reddit
He almost backed into that space.
wstsidhome@reddit
Tail dragger touchdown first, no less!! Nice!!! 👌
joeyjoejums@reddit
That's beautiful.
Substantial-Sector60@reddit
Shall we discuss the magnitude of the headwind?
LimpMathematician247@reddit
Must have had a really strong headwind
Life_Acrobat_2408@reddit
Plop!
Alarming-Nothing-593@reddit
Absolute Cinema!
mealucra@reddit
0ft landing.
Well done
echoverse119@reddit
The tail drager 🤓
Wardog-Mobius-1@reddit
This is not STOL landing, this is hovering speed well done to the pilot absolutely incredible
