Residency in Greece

Hi everyone! 👋
I have a question about residency!
I’m a non-EU citizen with a dependent worker residency card in Greece. My husband is an EU citizen from another country — he used to work there and never registered in Greece.
We’re both currently unemployed and want to stay in Greece.
Question: How and where can my husband register at my address? Can I go to any police station or do I need to go Alien's Office? By the way,I rent a room in Athens, and the contract is in my name.
Question 2: Eventually, I plan to convert my permit to the EU spouse card since the dependent worker one will expire.
After registering him, would that be directly possible?
If anyone has done something similar or experienced it, I’d really appreciate tips on steps, documents and what to expect.
Thanks! 😊

Ah, Greek bureaucracy. I can't give you the exact steps since this stuff changes depending on who you talk to and what mood they are in that day.
But here's the general direction:
Your husband is EU, so he doesn't need the Aliens Office. He registers at the local police station or KEP (Citizens Service Center) for an EU Registration Certificate. Should be straightforward(-ish).
For you, since you are married to an EU citizen, ur probably better off going for the Article 10 card (EU Family Member) rather than staying on the dependent worker route. It's tied to his EU rights, not a job, so unemployment doesn't matter.
Once registered, you apply for the spouse card. Typical docs: marriage certificate (apostilled, translated, blessed by three priests...), his EU registration, proof of address, passport, photos.
My advice: call the Athens Aliens Bureau to confirm. And patience.

In Greece, you must register your address at your local municipality (Dimarchio). This is the mayor's office in your area of residence. To do this, you will usually need:

Hello, thanks for the answer. So only from Dimarchio we can ask for a yellow residence certificate (Βεβαίωση Εγγραφής Πολίτη Ε.Ε. or we can do also from any police station( some websites says police station) ?

as mentioned in the previous comments, first your spouse must issue EU card, then you may apply online for issuing a resident card as third country family member of an EU citizen. just to know if you apply in one of Attica's departments, you might wait for very long time, as per regulation time for waiting must not exceed 6 months, but in reality ,,,, My family now is more that 18 months, last time i checked with immigration office ( 2 months ago ) they told me that the are processing cases in beginning of 2023. while you wait for issuing the card, you will be given a white paper showing that you residing legally in Greece, you can't travel to other EU countries, you can only travel to your home country and back to Greece.

2.
A non-EU spouse of an EU citizen living in Greece can apply for a Residence Card for Family Members of an EU Citizen, as per EU Directive 2004/38/EC. This card grants the right to stay and work in Greece and other EU member states under certain conditions.
Requirements for the Residence Card: 1. Proof of Relationship: - Marriage certificate (officially translated into Greek and legalized/apostilled). 2. Proof of EU Citizen’s Status in Greece: - Evidence that the EU spouse is residing in Greece (e.g., work contract, rental agreement, health insurance, or proof of financial self-sufficiency). 3. Non-EU Spouse’s Documents: - Passport and visa (if applicable). - Proof of entry into Greece. 4. Application Form: - Completed form obtained from the local Aliens and Immigration Office or Decentralized Administration Office. 5. Passport-sized Photos.
Application Process: - Submit the application at the Aliens and Immigration Office in the region where you reside. - The residence card is usually issued within 6 months after submission, and the applicant will receive a certificate confirming the application status during processing.
This residence card is valid for 5 years and can be renewed as long as the conditions of the relationship remain intact.
