tumanskyr15@reddit
where 😛
rokkerboyy@reddit (OP)
Bro, youre literally in one of the pics.
tumanskyr15@reddit
Nah he's my cousin. Last time I saw him was when we were both in the same bread line in the 80s.
Any_Towel1456@reddit
Sweet jesus the size of nozzles. No wonder it could fly so high and so fast.
rokkerboyy@reddit (OP)
Im 5'11 for reference.
Any_Towel1456@reddit
Very cool.
Proton_0911@reddit
how did it get there? was it flown there all the way from the middle east?
rokkerboyy@reddit (OP)
Rode on a C-5
Bdowns_770@reddit
I want to go to that place so bad but I can’t come up with another reason to go to Dayton.
Cipher1553@reddit
To be honest if you have any interest at all in going to the USAF Museum then just go. I made a day trip out of it and had to rush to finish seeing all of the exhibits (and that was with skipping the WW1 section)
Bdowns_770@reddit
I’ve been to Udvar Hazy and spent most of the day there. I’m sure I could justify the trip just for the USAF museum. The B-36 will take an hour all by itself.
Ikrit122@reddit
If you really want to see/read everything, you need at least 2 full days. I've been like 10 times in my life and I always feel like I need more time than I get.
USAF Museum has 4 hangars the size of the main Udvar-Hazy one. It also has a ton more reading.
Luster-Purge@reddit
The Dayton Carillion is a beautiful historical park that also has the Wright Brothers National Monument in it, which is where the Wright Flyer III is housed, but has a lot of cool other historical stuff as well.
Cincinnati is roughly an hour south and is home to the Cincinnati Museum Center, which is also Cincinnati Union Terminal, largest semi-dome structure in the country and second largest in the world (the first being the Sydney Opera House). Ever wanted to visit the Hall of Justice? This is the building the Hall was based on - it's even in some of the merch lol. There's also the American Sign Museum which is loaded with all kinds of cool vintage signs from across the years and worth a visit.
And of course Kings Island is a world class theme park, home to the legendary Beast and other famous attractions.
Really, the Dayton/Cincinnati area is loaded with cool things to do and see, so just make a vacation out of seeing the sights.
pistola@reddit
Haha. Mate, some time in the next couple of years I'm going to fly all the way from Australia to visit the museum. I'm sure a city the size of Dayton will have plenty of midwest dive bars and burger joints to keep me happy for a few days outside all the plane ogling.
wherewulf23@reddit
Find an excuse to go to Columbus or Cincinnati. Both nice cities and both are only about 1.5 hours away from Dayton.
rokkerboyy@reddit (OP)
Plenty of air museums in the area. Lotta concerts come in the general area.
Bdowns_770@reddit
I almost closed a client deal that would have given me a reason to hit Dayton for the onboarding but the deal fell through. I really wanted that deal as much for the excuse to go there as well as the commission.
Jesse_van_den_broek@reddit
Is this one the Iraqi 25R’s they dug out at Al-Taqqadum airfield west of Baghdad.
rhit06@reddit
Yep

CerealSpiller22@reddit
To be honest, much like an F-4, probably doesn't really need the wings.
Puzzled-Wind9286@reddit
Both aircraft are proof that with enough thrust, anything can fly.
RestaurantFamous2399@reddit
They were more for steering than anything else!
rocket_randall@reddit
And for somewhere to mount the missiles!
BlattMaster@reddit
I remember it viral as the best example of a "found wmd" from the war.

bikewrench11@reddit
I love this plane. It's a chainsaw where others are a scalpel. Just a brutal plane.
thecaramelbandit@reddit
It's like they shoved a cockpit in between two of the biggest engines they could find.
Nerezza_Floof_Seeker@reddit
They literally used engines which were originally built for a giant ass cruise missile (the Tu 121 weighed in at ~30 tons with a ~3 ton warhead).
MrPigeon70@reddit
With enough thrust you can make even a brick fly
Walbabyesser@reddit
Engines so big, looks like a rocket with wings
MapleMapleHockeyStk@reddit
The back end looks like it is staring at you with binoculars!!!
AreWeThereYetNo@reddit
Dump truck looking ass plane.
buddhahat@reddit
dat ass

YOL-O ... Nice
Angrykitten41@reddit
Walk around for those interested https://youtu.be/AgHTdTivOKk?si=YfSBIzuLpVupBQ1r
Interesting_City2338@reddit
these images do a good job of showing just how massive those engines are. so cool
CharcoalGreyWolf@reddit
And unusual in that large amounts of stainless steel went into its construction
MohnJaddenPowers@reddit
I gotta get to Dayton. Like, right now.
rokkerboyy@reddit (OP)
You have 6 months.
Saltywheels@reddit
Do you happen to know why they are only temporarily displaying it?
rokkerboyy@reddit (OP)
Yes, but I cant say.
Saltywheels@reddit
They finally found the wings and need to re-attach them. Haha. I'll have to make it out and see it before it goes back in the closet! 😒
Luster-Purge@reddit
Where'd they find the wings? Genuinely curious since Spare MIG-25 wings aren't growing on trees lol.
Saltywheels@reddit
I was just joking. Lol
rokkerboyy@reddit (OP)
Nvm, plan is public now. They are gonna rotate out an aircraft in storage every 6 months. There are a few vehicles in storage not fully restored but enough to be displayed.
indimedia@reddit
Spaceships, dont have rear view mirrors! 🚀
CasualWarThunderplya@reddit
mig 17.5
Cuck_Yeager@reddit
Finally! It’s such a fascinating aircraft that they’ve just left in the conservation hangar forever. Glad to see something being done with it
kma311323@reddit
Love to hear the story behind that. They've had the plane for a long time and never did anything with it? Wonder why?
Cuck_Yeager@reddit
My guess is they wanted to find wings for it, as the first set was taken the night after the aircraft was recovered from being buried. But that’s a difficult job, most MiG-25 operators aren’t from friendly countries
kma311323@reddit
Maybe a dumb question but couldn't they fabricate a pair of mock up wings?
Luster-Purge@reddit
It was easier to just wait until they could locate a pair of real ones, since it's not like there's a lack of planes in conservation awaiting restoration.
No-Assumption7622@reddit
Can't wait to go see it. I'll make it one of my yearly visits, it's incredible.
Johnny-Cash-Facts@reddit
Still waiting on the XC-99. It’s the one bird I want to see before I can’t.
rokkerboyy@reddit (OP)
I dont think thatll ever happen unfortunately.
Johnny-Cash-Facts@reddit
I guess I’ll have to go see it in the boneyard.
Distinct-Tour5012@reddit
Damn that's the BBL-25 😣💦
Der-Lex@reddit
The area where the wings attach to the engines looks so small considering how big it is and how fast it’s going.
candylandmine@reddit
Let's get her flying again. We can 3D print some wings.
karlurbanite@reddit
dat ass 👀
mfsnyder1985@reddit
I was supposed to see it in early October but no. Thanks government. Oh well, at least the place is open again now
rokkerboyy@reddit (OP)
Good news is you have 6 months to make it out before they send it back to storage.
Educational-Raisin69@reddit
The most literal example of strapping a human to the front of a pair of enormous jet engines.
ProjectNo864@reddit
Too bad the U.S. army tanks destroyed all the wings by running over them :/
Annobanno@reddit
Those Tumansky’s - sheeeesh! Absolutely gargantuan, but what did was their service life? Didn’t they start with like 300 hours or something absolutely bonkers, since they were practically pulled from a drone ?
