It's funny how all the other HBO intros have been shout-outs to this one intro. The music is playing in my head as I type this.

I didn’t grow up with this. But you might like this.

I loved the space part. Gives goosebumps still today. This opening did indeed go so hard!

i bothers me how it doesn't go in a straight line but constantly bearing left once it goes above the theatre.

They should have consulted with a team about a movie that wouldn't come out for 5 more years? If you figure out how to do that, let me know.

I remember it before fraggle rock... scored into my memory. Grampa lit a fire in the fireplace, sitting on the floor in front of the tv. It's been a long road since that moment. I'm crying a little thinking about it. What a life!

I thought people might like to see all the practical effects they used to make this back in the day

Thanks! This was awesome.

Yeah for 30-whatever years I’ve been assuming the HBO logo and light-streams were early CGI…

I did too for a long time

It makes me miss new movies every Saturday night on HBO. On another note Dan Soder used this for his HBO special a few years ago unexpectedly. Kicked you right in the feels if you saw it.

My dad used to pick me up and fly me around during this. Core memory. One day I was feeling nostalgic, popped on a version from YouTube and did the same with my son. He loved it. Thanks for sharing.

I really hope that model is preserved somewhere

Just goes to show how incredible practical effects are. I loved this intro. It came on before Ghostbusters, which my dad recorded.

You should delete the timestamp from the link, as it's jumping new viewers to the end of the video.

Oh oops I'm sorry. It won't let me edit it though

awesome intro and cool look back

I really dont understand why they just dont recycle it at this point. Its by far the best opener they've had imho.

You used to know some fresh shit was on the way when they bothered to run the whole thing before a movie…

I loved this intro as a kid, and watching how it got made was really interesting. I love seeing all the practical effects.

Every so often I go to YouTube and watch it just to get a nostalgia boost.
