When a grandma-type called me "ma'am" at work last year, I officially became OLD 🤣
MajesticEmergency@reddit
I'm 43 and just eariler this afternoon I was told "you're still young". I honestly don't know at this point if I'm young or old haha.
Blackbird136@reddit
It’s a crazy feeling. I’m the second oldest in my friend group, with the youngest being 31. So I definitely feel old then.
But I’m the youngest employee at work by about 6 years, and my clients are almost all 60+, so I feel young at work.
Idk man. This is all a struggle. In my mind I’m still about 28.

Similar. Im 40, but most of the people I interact with are in their 60s-70s I’ll forever be a kid to them. The other half of my career I have to keep up with the trends of the young people and to them I’m an oldhead, unc.

That would depend if you are speaking to someone who is 70 or 20 I guess. Although the reality is that we are around halfway (if we are lucky) so I'm going with neither, we are middle aged.
chrisdecaf@reddit
It's ok to be middle-aged, and it doesn't matter if young people disagree with this. I used to have contempt for middle-aged people, now I am one, and one day those young people will be middle-aged and the next generation will have contempt for them. Just is what it is.

I feel this when I go to my annual OB/GYN appointment. They no longer start with "when was your last period" - it's "do you still get your period" and my heart sinks every time.

Pregnancy after 35 used to be called “geriatric pregnancy.” Sigh.
_MistyDawn@reddit
I prefer the way it's phrased in Spanish: "Yo tengo cuarenta años." "I have forty years." It's a shame it sounds so off in English since we're used to hearing "forty years old."
Xanderson@reddit (OP)
That’s cool. Here I wish people would just say “in their 40s” but that’s because I’m old haha.
portagenaybur@reddit
Turning 46 soon. 40 does sound young now
Xanderson@reddit (OP)
Yeah I just turned 46. I’m still in denial.
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
40 is great. Youth is overrated because you're broke and naive.
Xanderson@reddit (OP)
Youth is wasted on the young.
twobootsranch@reddit
Wait is there an option to not be broke and naive at 40? Asking for a younger friend.

Welcome.
We have snacks.

80 is the new 60 if you take care of your self. Or so that’s the saying now.
60 back in the day must have sucked.
eat_like_snake@reddit
I've always hated this phrasing.
"Old" means you're going forward in time.
"Young" means you're going backwards.
"40 years young" compared to what? What are you -40 years in reference point to?
Shit makes no fucking sense.
