VSCode out with more bullshit to turn off
connor4312@reddit (OP)
Since a couple releases ago there's a setting
chat.disableAIFeatures. With that on you shouldn't have any more AI things you'd need to turn off -- assuming you're talking about the copilot-related features :)hurix@reddit
its from microsoft. any update can and will turn that back on, the shit doesnt need to be installed yet it is. a company can not trust it or the marketplace to stay out of that, and with losing support from the industry.. well no that changes nothing.. but you get my point

Whenever VS Code makes setting changes there's always migration logic in place to update from old to new settings. This doesn't happen super often but those migrations stay in place for several years to avoid settings getting lost or accidentally changed if someone doesn't update frequently.

i was a bit hyperbolic and i hope vscode stays that way. but the smell of microsoft just .. rubs off on it, you know. i lost trust, a lot.

yes but they added that checkbox recently. specifically because they want to accommodate coders that don't want anything AI related. why add a checkbox for it if they were trying to maliciously shove AI down everyones throats?

Still a mid editor
juhotuho10@reddit
settings -> search "disable ai features" -> check the disable AI features checkbox

There are actually some nice QoL additions here, with the Git integration stuff and the new proposed features.
juhotuho10@reddit
99 useless AI features and like 2 QoL features, yay

It's great that after 9 years of using VS Code, I finally switched to Zed — it's so much better.

gross

I'm glad they made it so you can select text on deleted lines again, but why did they ever make it so you couldn't in the first place? It was so weird when that change originally came in.
