Never! Don't do it! You're too young to be struggling with this. A standard longevity test is whether or not you can put a sock and shoe on one foot while standing on the other without having to lean. If you're thinking of switching to velcro because you're struggling with this please consider talking to your doctor, getting some physical therapy, losing any excess weight, etc...

My brother-in-law (M50) wears Velcro shoes. There is nothing physically wrong that he wouldn't be able to tie shoelaces; he says himself that it's because he's lazy. To answer your question: Velcro shoes IMO are for people who can't tie shoes, like toddlers or the elderly/infirm. If you can still tie your own shoes, then you shouldn't be wearing Velcro. Find something else that is comfortable and slip-on if you're lazy.

I’ve tried several different pairs of the Skechers slip ins and the fit is wildly different. The ones I wear daily are a more leather work shoe that is extra supportive. Model is the Holdredge - Ryker, not super stylish but I wear them 99% of the time due to comfort and ease of taking on and off which I do a lot daily.

I don't think I'll ever do Velcro by choice. Slip ons of various types work well. Or, if you must have laces, find a pair that don't actually tie and just have stretchy laces to give the appearance of laced shoes without the hassle of actual laces. You can also buy stretchy laces and cut them to the appropriate length for any shoe. They come with caps to keep them in place. The loops of laces always ruined the look of the shoe for me, and I like this better than just tucking the loops. More comfortable, too.

IMO never. I’m a big follower of the idea of dramaturgy, which is basically the idea that the world is theater, we are all actors in each others plays, and the only time we are truly ourselves is when we are alone. With that idea of being actors also comes with the idea of what our costumes for our character, or how we are presenting ourselves to the world and how that’s perceived. The connotations of certain articles of clothing are not part of how I present myself to the world-including Velcro shoes. Basically it’s not my style.

Now if my health or whatever changes what shoes and such I can wear, this opinion changes. But I’ve got an 81 year old acquaintance that is always the best dressed person in any given room he walks into. That’s my goal
