Does that mean I no longer have to go to work and pay bills?
This blanket statement is nonsensical and ignores that some of us just like our privacy. I don’t need someone digging through my history so they can dismiss something I say because of my sexuality or neurodivergence.
If the person you are arguing with was going to dismiss your statements for that they were going to do it for something pathetic regardless. Nonsensical my ass if you wanna argue with nazi's in good faith in 2025 that's on you but it's NPC behavior ngl.
As far as your bills you love the life you want to live. If you're tired of society go outside and never go back inside. Hippies do it.
I know how it works brother. If someone does all that then they lost for sure. Gotta have no life to be doing investigative work for an anonymous online discussion
What’s popular isn’t always what’s right. Especially on Reddit of all places. Nice assumption. I’ll tell you any of my opinions right now ask away bud. I just don’t like conversations getting derailed by what subs I’m active in or my hobbies or whatever. I like things to stay focused
It's not that people do it all in one post in an obvious way (although there are clearly a hell of a lot of fuckwits on reddit, so blanket statements don't entirely apply), it's more the slow drop of information over time.
You'd be surprised what you could find out about many profiles online. It's even easier if using modern OSINT tools.
People give away so much information without realising. If you had a bot to trawl through Reddit it could easily find out the age, where people live, what they do for a living and their marital status at a minimum
If an account want to have privacy, they shouldn't be able to posting at least.
Many meme subs have agenda pushers(political, fetish, conspiracy, or 14 year older ideas) who posts more than 10 post a day and hijack the place into their personal blogs. This made tracking them as a user harder.
While I know this website surely wouldn't do it, I do know that other websites are making bots themselves to repost popular posts and comments to increase engagement and provide the millions of users with a quality feed.
It's quite astonishing that people haven't caught up to it yet.
Good, block me. Anyone who needs to unironically click my profile isn't someone I need to engage with. I literally could not care less if it makes people think I'm a bot. The opinions of Redditors means less then dirt to me.
Have you paid any attention to how absolutely unhinged millions of redditors are?
You don't even have to say the "wrong" thing these days: there's plenty of people who will happily twist what you said and infer you rape puppies from an innocuous statement. I'd rather not have them all at my front door, thank you very much.
There's a method of creating bots that start out by reposting shit for karma then they go dormant for a while then magically start pushing whatever narrative they're paid for.
Turning off the post history makes it impossible to see this type of account anymore. Therefore, if I can't see your post history, I'll block you.
I think if enough real people did the same, those bot accts should be pushed to the bottom.
Haha, I meant it more as a rhetorical question, but you have a good point. I'm going to start doing this now. I hope mods in recommendation-centric subreddits start to take action against them. I think downvoting might be more useful than blocking though. Just because I can recognize a fake account doesn't mean others will bother to check. In a world where putting "reddit" at the end of your Google search will output an expected "human" answer, we deserve to only receive answers from people we know are humans, not just unrecognizably sponsored slop.
I don't take advice from people without post history. But I don't mind it in more shit posting communities. Some people get attacked for things they shouldn't have to hide, like being trans.
Reddit could just get rid of the bots. If we can spot them they can , too. They probably won't do it tho
They’re not really hidden. Just click on their profile. Go to the search bar in the profile, click in the box but don’t type anything. Hit enter and it will pull up all their posts and comments.
I just browse the site on my browser with Desktop view forced through browser settings and set the URL as old.reddit. The toggle in Reddit settings barely works anymore though and it'll kick you to nu Reddit if you click an image directly.
I love the way the modern lore is that google is so shit at giving answers, you need reddit, and reddit is so shit at finding answers, you need google.
Arms race. Basically after search was mastered, websites mastered the art of gaming search.
When everyone had an equally low likelihood of discovery through search, they didn't invest much in it, but as search got better so did the motivation to cheat it, and thus google's to perpetually try and update out the cheats. Add in copyright and other legal, and basically you get sterilized and generic results. If you want to see what it looks like without the sterilization, try Mojeek next time, but you'll see that the old web approach to modern web is basically chaotic.
tl;dr Enshitification but the free market version where everyone worked together to make everything worse

Sounds good, doesn't work. Whenever you comment something political they used to check your profile and said "coming from a person who " and then you get 5 downvotes and your comment goes unseen.
You can still see an accounts submissions history by searching for author:username, like this, even when the account is private. But it doesn't show comments by the user.
I had way too many conservatives stalk me and comment on all of my comments. Finally just had to lock it down. The last straw was them trying to find out where I lived.
That seems like maybe you don't want to be in social media at all. I mean, I get it, I hate being pigeonholed as well, but my user history is public because it's a two-way street.
I like talking about my interests. I don't care if I am easily accessible to people finding out more about me. The fact that there's so many people who see a comment and then dig through comment histories is honestly pretty strange behavior.

Good. It was always a stupid idea to let redditlosers browse a posting history so they could dismiss a valid argument by mentioning a post from 15 years ago.
They’re not really hidden. Just click on their profile. Go to the search bar in the profile, click in the box but don’t type anything. Hit enter and it will pull up all their posts and comments.

What are the odds that there’s at least a few bots in this comment thread
centurion762@reddit
They’re not really hidden. Just click on their profile. Go to the search bar in the profile, click in the box but don’t type anything. Hit enter and it will pull up all their posts and comments.
