I was a Benadryl addict for 2 years. Eventually, you reach a stage of addiction where you are so apathetic you ignore the deep shame you feel. And once you start doing that people quickly devolve into insanity.

I have genuinely said the words “I’ll do better tomorrow” only to just ignore than conviction the next day. It was a hell of my own construction yet I didn’t even try crawling out till I got help.

yeah but to get addicted at first you have to either try it once at a social event like a party (which how often are people doing lines at house parties), then you either have to seek it out on your own or score it at more parties, because nobody gets addicted to coke off one time doing it. then you have to find a dealer, which requires you asking someone you know who knows a guy, and taking a non small amount of money to spend on it. then you have to actually line it up and snort it.

there’s like 17 times you have the opportunity to go “nah” and just leave it alone.

No one thinks addiction will happen to them. Good on you for not trying in the first place, that is a great line to draw. I mean that sincerely, I'm glad that you are someone who is unlikely to ruin their life on drugs. Too much of that going around.

Thing is, a lot of people get into coke because they see people they admire or envy doing it, and they think, "If they're doing it without ruining their life, I can too. They're having fun, I want to have fun too." That kind of thing. If there wasn't appeal to it, everyone would say the same thing you're saying and just avoid it.
