RTX 5080 Palit GameRock fan “noise”
Posted by kirichensky@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 134 comments
I bought an RTX 5080 Palit GameRock OC. Everything is great, the performance is excellent, the card runs cool, and the cooling system is superb. However, there is a nuance. The GPU fans start with a distinct sound, similar to a kind of vibration. The sound persists at any fan speed, and its frequency doesn’t change, but after a certain point, it gets lost in the noise of the airflow. Overall, the sound is quite quiet and is practically inaudible against the background of the system's operation. But I noticed it because my previous RTX 3080 FE didn’t make any such noise. Using the Thundermaster utility, I tried adjusting the fans separately, but the sound was present on all fans, which, in my opinion, suggests that it’s not a defect but rather a 'feature,' as the likelihood of all three fans in the GPU being faulty is low. I also found information about the RTX 40xx series from Palit, where users mentioned that Palit fans just have this characteristic sound. Could anyone please tell me if they’ve encountered a similar issue? Is this a defect or just a peculiarity of the operation? If it’s a defect, is it covered under warranty?

I’ve read all your updates but stayed silent since there was no new info. But I think it’s time to sum up a sort of interim “result” of owning the Palit RTX50XX.
After essentially 8 months of owning the GPU, I can note two things:
Yes, support told me that the fan bearings would “wear in” or something like that, but in reality nothing like that happened. Maybe I should have pushed it with some huge load, I don’t know. My card has never gone above 60–65°C, so the fans never ran at full speed, and often didn’t run at all.
And yes, I’ve gotten used to it. I can’t say that the noise really bothered me at the start. More like puzzled me. More like I was thinking, “Is everything okay?” Because when you buy a technically complex device for objectively big money, in my opinion, it should work flawlessly.
I’m not planning to do anything with the card, and the fans won’t be replaced. When it starts lacking performance in the future, I’ll either sell it or just put it into my wife’s PC.
Several-Confidence23@reddit
I had same problem with 5070ti gamerock for about 3 months, and I finally got it fixed, taken off plastic shroud, oiled bearings with !steel SPO 3, I think it’s oil with some “silicone”?? Firstly seems like nothing changed but after 2-3 hours grating sounds decreased and now I barely hear it, but I damaged something and now one of fans have slight sandy sounds but it’s also barely audible, so I’ll wait some more time before breakdown again, if someone needs photo of underneath fans u welcome to ask
Several-Confidence23@reddit
Upd: 3 weeks later noise back worse than stock. Deshrouded it 2x120 be quiet pure wings2 same temps with 1200rpm, not dead silent but ok. At 800rpm silent but +10 degrees, locked 800rpm 900mV 2900mhz
Will try arctic p12 later
Several-Confidence23@reddit
Upd4 tried 2x p12 its far far better than be quiet, whisper quiet operation at under the 50% pwm and under 65 degrees, Idk how but it works, also removed any undervolt and going +420 +3000, no issues at all, I have no way to use 3x120 due to limitations of nr200p, but I think it will be even better
Roma322@reddit
is it difficult to deshroud? Does it work with another fans or you need adapter to connect them?
Skyb@reddit
I have the Gamerock 5090 and have this motor sound as well. If there's any options for replacement fans I'd be happy to hear about it!
kirichensky@reddit (OP)
Support said that over time, the fans should become quieter as the moving parts wear in and adjust to each other.
Roma322@reddit
I have Palit GamingPro 5070 ti - same problem, After 2 months it still has humming noise and now it really distracts me. I don't know what to do - people say that fan noise isn't warranty case.
sascha177@reddit
Well.. if that's the case, I guess four months isn't enough time to "break in" those parts.. :D
And I've been using a custom curve from day one, meaning no fan-stop for me and they will always be spinning at at least 30 percent (\~1200 RPM IIRC). Posted a video in here with THE NOISE at 33, 44, 60, 80 and 100 percent RPM after four months of daily use.
MomoSinX@reddit
I am having a similar sound on my Phantom 5090, at first I thought it's a faulty fan, but when I inspected it, it's like the sound is generate when all 3 fans are running in unison, when I stop the middle one, it dies down a bit. Kinda weird.....
I only had the card for a day so I'll give it a few weeks of gaming to see if the parts adjust.
PotentialExact4226@reddit
Hey, was there any update to this?
MomoSinX@reddit
Still sounds the same, luckily my case fans drown it out when I am gaming.
PotentialExact4226@reddit
Ah that’s rough, is it bearable or genuinely really annoying? Was looking to get a 5070ti palit myself, but if it is quite annoying then I might have to avoid this time around. It does seem to be a widespread issue among palit users I will say
MomoSinX@reddit
I am more or less used to it by now but at first it was definitely annoying (but at least these fans don't "hiss" like asus ones)
PotentialExact4226@reddit
I feel like every gpu brand has their issues lol, for the price it’s kinda crazy. I think I might just go for the zotac sff model, which is like nearly 100 less than all other models where I live. It will probably run slightly hotter but I figured I may as well just save the money and get the cheapest and stop overthinking it lol. Zotac definitely has its issues too but I think the noise people are describing with Palit could drive me crazy. Wish me luck😭
MomoSinX@reddit
next time I'll try some other brand too, yeah sadly all of them have some kind of quirk :/
PotentialExact4226@reddit
Yeah, I feel like all the “budget” brands have some issue or another but I’ll give the zotac sff a chance this time considering it’s great price.
ADHUS13@reddit
Yeah bro my 5090 Gamerock have the same annoying noise. It's unacceptable for this bucks
Muted-Green-2880@reddit
Did it sound anything like mine ? https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/tqo9g42335csb2zro57fs/20250814_135759.mp4?rlkey=krhmub2lk7hi8pcdrooen1u7v&st=x93k8se3&dl=0
Mine is the 5070ti gamingpro v1. I can't stand the noise anymore, it was ok when I had a fan on in the room to block the noise. I'm thinking of trying to rma it, surely this can't be normal? Never had a gpu that sounded like that. I was mucking around with a 9060 xt the other day and eveb at higher rpm that what my card was doing it was completely silent! ( sapphire pulse 9060xt 16gb ) besides a little bit of coil whine, my 5070 ti has coil whine and that horrible buzzing noise from the fans. Think its enough to rma it ? Its not acceptable imo to have this sound, soon as the fans switch off the buzzing goes away
CoitousCrusader@reddit
I got the gamerock 5070ti and I have this same noise. Did you RMA yours?
Muted-Green-2880@reddit
I sent mine back to the store about 17 days and haven't heard back from them yet. They said it can take between 2-3 weeks ( I'm in Australia and returning things is difficult here lol ) I'm hoping they'll refund my money, but since a lot of people have the same issue im worried they'll thats how its supposed to be...and if that is how its supposed to be its by the worst designed fan system I've ever seen on a gpu lol. Sounds horrible no matter what the rpm is on the fans. Sounds the worst around 1400-1500 rpm which is where it normally sits. If i have it lower it doesn't cool that well and still has the sound but not as bad. I hate it lol. Are you going to try rma yours? It's a hassle but hopefully worth it
CoitousCrusader@reddit
Bro which store did you buy yours from? I’m also in Aus. Yeah it sounds the worst when it’s at low rpm and disappears when I put it on max RPM
Muted-Green-2880@reddit
Probably disappears because the wind noise takes over, these things get ridiculously loud 🤣 i got it from a store on ebay called Smart home store, they've been good about it. Replied straight away and wanted a video etc. But its taking awhile. They did say between 2-3 weeks to be fair, i really hope they don't just send it back. I can't stand the noise, its worse than bad coil whine lol. Ive heard some others on YouTube and they don't all sound like this, so its probably a mix of poor design and poor quality control
CoitousCrusader@reddit
Yeah true, good luck with yours. I’m going to take mine back to centrecom tomorrow or Friday. I’ll let you know what they say with mine.
Muted-Green-2880@reddit
Yeah keep me updated ! Ill let you know too, I'll send a message tomorrow and ask for an update. Pretty ridiculous its taking so long lol. All they have to do is turn the fans on and they'll immediately hear it 🤣 definitely never buying this brand ever again thats for sure
CoitousCrusader@reddit
Yeah 10000%, hope we get refunded so we can buy something more reliable 😂😂
Muted-Green-2880@reddit
Fingers crossed 🤞 also the nvidia cards now come bundled with borderlands so that would be a nice bonus for waiting so long 🤣 i might even go a 9070 xt id they prices drop a bit more. Getting ahead of myself though lol
CoitousCrusader@reddit
Took mine today but they didn’t have a tech working, looks like I’ll be going back tomorrow
Muted-Green-2880@reddit
I got a message back, they still haven't checked it lol its been 18 days since they've had it. Pretty slack, not sure if its the store that checks it or they send it on to palit ? But its a ridiculously long wait lol meanwhile I have no spare gpu so I dan only use my Pc using the hdmi out on the mobo lol. Frustrating, after all this if It they say its fine I'm gonna be pissed 🤣
Muted-Green-2880@reddit
Fkn unbelievable, they said its completely silent ! I have video of the card. They wanted to know the orientation of ny gpu, it made the exact same sound horizontal as it does vertical. Dodgy bastards
Muted-Green-2880@reddit
Update: after I posted this video https://youtu.be/GiToj765Fd4?si=RO3_ns4ZgjuYXlcW And sent it to the store I bought from they responded saying that actually they can hear that its faulty and are now applying for RMA with PALIT. funny how that works lol dodgy bastards trying to get out of it. No idea how long its going to take. Hopefully centrecom don't try stuff you around as well, they've always had good customers service in the past so fingers crossed for you
CoitousCrusader@reddit
Did they give you an eta?
Muted-Green-2880@reddit
Not yet, after they wrote to tell they were sending it to palit I replied asking for an eta and I didn't get a response lol. Hopefully they'll reply tomorrow. Pain in the ass but its better than having a card I can't stand using lol
CoitousCrusader@reddit
Yeah true still sucks you don’t have a gpu to use. If centrecom can’t return or refund me on the spot I’ll probably just keep it and turn up my case fans
Muted-Green-2880@reddit
I'm less tolerant to noise i guess haha. It was driving me insane, especially wheb I spent hours tuning all of the aio and case fans to be near silent. Luckily I'm off to bali for 2 weeks in a few days so that will help kill time 🤣
Muted-Green-2880@reddit
Apparently the store I bought from sent it to palit and 2 later they said it was fine and blamed it on a possible loose cable in my pc. I had it two different setups and it made the exact same sound. Either the store is lying which is a high possibility or Palit are just complete scum. Hope you had better luck than I did.
CoitousCrusader@reddit
I’d think it would take Palit more than 2 business days to complete an RMA
Muted-Green-2880@reddit
That's what I would have thought. Very suspicious, I doubt they even sent it lol. I said ok send it back and I'll contact ACCC instead if they're not going to help. That was almost 2 days ago and they haven't responded yet.
CoitousCrusader@reddit
Yeah something fishy going on lol. Hopefully if you just tell the retailer you’re letting the ACCC know they might do something but if they don’t, just full send it. Fuck em
Muted-Green-2880@reddit
Yeah I'm not letting them get away with it lol. Super sketchy
CoitousCrusader@reddit
Still sucks they charged you $280 for im guessing a restock fee?
Muted-Green-2880@reddit
Yep restocking fee, at first I was annoyed and was going to write back I'll take my chances with Acc, but I highly doubt anything would have come from that 🤣 the refund pretty much covered the 9070 xt I'm about to pick up so all is good 👍
Muted-Green-2880@reddit
I ended up getting a redund...minus 20% so I lost $280 lol but I'm ok with that ( it came with doom the dark ages premium edition so that helps rationalise in my mind lol ) . Better than having the card. Just got myself a sapphire 9070xt nitro+ with the money. About to pick it up now, hope i have better luck with this card 🤣
Not buying cheap brands ever again lol
CoitousCrusader@reddit
So that’s it for you? They’re just gonna send it back?
Cloud_Motion@reddit
Palit 4080 here and it's basically the same, I'm guessing you mean like a buzzing/bearing kind of noise? I've tried finding a solution for this for about a year and a half now, nothing really comes close short of deshrouding the thing unfortunately and replacing the plate with your own fans.
Whatever Palit uses just isn't very good and has this loud noise designed into it
kirichensky@reddit (OP)
I would describe the sound as if something is catching or vibrating. Regarding Palit’s GPU cooling systems in general, many users and professional reviewers have stated that the RTX 5080 GameRock is quiet, with noise levels not exceeding 32 decibels in Silent BIOS mode. Specifically, yesterday I decided to observe the system again, manually controlling the fans and using the system under load. If you manually set the fan speed, the sound is audible, but under load, it’s not noticeable due to the overall noise generated by the system (I’m using Arctic P12 fans and an NZXT Z73 with its stock fans). Have you tried addressing your issue under warranty
Cloud_Motion@reddit
So I just uploaded a video to google drive of what I'm experiencing.
It's a lot quieter on there than it was on my phone, but I put my earphones in and bumped it up to 100, you can definitely hear it here. It goes fan 1 > off > fan 1 & 2 > off > fans 1+2+3.
From having a look, people say this could be coil whine but I'm honestly not sure. It's almost like a power issue, you can hear it sort of kick in before the fans start actually properly spinning. I don't think it's a fan/bearing noise itself, and is coming from whatever is making the fans start spinning.
I've no idea, but it's annoying as hell and I hate it deeply. Hope you can manage to sort it somehow though mate, best of luck.
kirichensky@reddit (OP)
I have exactly the same sound, and they start up in exactly the same way!
Cloud_Motion@reddit
It fucking blows doesn't it. Sounds like a cannon going off injecting jetfuel into the damn thing, then the actual grinding/whirring noise...
It's weird because I don't think it's coming from the fan as such, but from whatever mechanism is powering them. Which has me concerned that replacing the shroud for example wouldn't actually fix the issue, but I'm not sure.
Please, for the love of god, let me know if you ever find a fix for this garbage.
There should be a little switch above your backplate that indicates dual bios a 'P' for performance and an 'S' for silent running. S makes the grinding sound a little bit quiet but it's definitely still noticeable. That video was taken on silent mode fwiw.
kirichensky@reddit (OP)
I wrote to Palit, will see what they reply.
Cloud_Motion@reddit
Hey, sorry to ping again but I'm curious. What is the power cable you're using to connect from your PSU to your GPU?
I'm fairly certain the 5080 is different but I'm curious if the power cable might have something to do with this sound.
This is more or less what mine looks like except it's an official Nvidia one. I noticed my PSU has a slot for a 12vhpwr to 12vhpwr though and am wondering if replacing it with that could make any difference.
kirichensky@reddit (OP)
I use 1STPLAYER NGDP 1000 Platinum ATX 3.1 with this stock 12 2x6 cable.
BTW local Palit support has answered me. They said that this sound is within normal limits and is related to the use of dual ball-bearing fans in the Gaming Pro and GameRock series of the 40XX and 50XX GPUs. These fans have an extended lifespan but produce this characteristic sound. This is not considered a warranty issue
Cloud_Motion@reddit
Christ. I pulled the shroud off earlier (that message didn't go through for some reason) and the fans didn't look that difficult to replace. I might buy some replacements to be honest. The noise is awful and extended lifetime or not, it's not worth that grating awfulness.
littlelordfuckpant5@reddit
Did you do this?
Cloud_Motion@reddit
I did my man yeah, 3 replacement fans, all pretty fucking expensive.
Didn't make any damn difference.
As far as I can tell, they're official fans too. Made literally no difference to the audio/grating noise that everyone and their nan seems to be experiencing with this brand.
littlelordfuckpant5@reddit
I wonder if you can replace them with another brand?
Cloud_Motion@reddit
not sure! I'm over wasting time on this though. I saw someone replace the entire shroud with noctua fans. Looked disgusting but it worked
littlelordfuckpant5@reddit
I literally only just built it and considering selling the gpu at a massive loss.
Cloud_Motion@reddit
I wouldn't blame you mate to be honest, if it's brand new I reckon you could recoup most of your cost and if you only lose like 100 or so it's probably worth it, you're going to be stuck with it for like, what, 2+ years?
littlelordfuckpant5@reddit
To update you (and anyone else from Google, palit was happy that the noise was a fault and replaced it.)
alls well, I'm glad I pushed for it to be returned for inspection which was the biggest hurdle.
Muted-Green-2880@reddit
Did they really replace it ? I sent it back to the store I bought from a few weeks ago. They finally wrote back and at first they said it was silent.
So I put this video up on YouTube https://youtube.com/shorts/GiToj765Fd4?si=tQ1N4kjpFtru5c78 and then sll of a sudden they wrote back saying they could hear the fault when they retested it.
Apparently they then sent it to palit and 2 days later palit said there was no noise and was probably cause from a cable in my system! The thing is....I had it in 2 different PC's and it made the exact same sound. I'm really at a loss as what to do, I can't stand it.
I feel like the store is just being sketchy and never even sent it. Never buying this brand again thats for sure
littlelordfuckpant5@reddit
Yes they immediately agreed there was an issue.
However on your video I can't hear anything like mine, mine was actual bearings making a grinding noise. Yours I cannot really hear.
Cloud_Motion@reddit
Fk yeah my man, well happy for you. Thanks for getting back to me.
I'm far, far out of warranty though I don't reckon it's worth even bothering.
Any update on the replacement??
littlelordfuckpant5@reddit
I think (and hope) I may end up getting a different card from the retailer since very few are in stock and their TOS says they'll try replace it like-for-like
They are pretty sure it was bearings though - so a deshroud and new fans would fix it. Another risky fix would just to be to place some side fans and under fans and control with the gpu temp and turn your gpu ones off.
Cloud_Motion@reddit
Damn, I did literally deshroud and replace with fans that they suggested (wasn't cheap!) to no avail.
Hope it works out for you dude.
littlelordfuckpant5@reddit
Replaced with their fans or different? I think palit ones are just so shit.
Cloud_Motion@reddit
Replaced with some palit fans that they recommended from some random ass AliExpress seller 😂 I might just deshroud the entire thing, I've seen Noctua shrouds and stuff that some hobbyists have done around here.
But agreed, they're garbage. This is a common issue that a lot of people are running into with their products it looks like.
littlelordfuckpant5@reddit
If you've already managed to deshroud it once, and my worry was doing it AT ALL then sticking some noctuas on should be nothing for you.
You can always buy some from like amazon that'll let you return them and double check by running them before you put them in.
Cloud_Motion@reddit
This is actually a really good idea man tbh I don't know why I didn't consider this.
I think I looked and the main thing was that theinting points for the fans are a non-standard ball ache, but I should double check into it.
If I'm not mistaken, I think I saw people just screw/clamp their fans directly to the radiator with no shroud at all.
But yeahh, deshrouding it was honestly pretty straightforward.
1tayven@reddit
would you bee willing to make a tutorial on how you deshrouded this specific card?
littlelordfuckpant5@reddit
Yeah I mean the shroud is really only a way to make sure the air is moving through it, so 3x 120 square cased fans would probs create enough of a seal for it to be no problem.
And yeah when I was considering it, no way was I gonna use their mounts.
littlelordfuckpant5@reddit
Current you was around 7 year so yeah it's an investment.
PotentialExact4226@reddit
Do you have the gaming pro or the gamerock variant?
PotentialExact4226@reddit
Hey, do you have the gamerock or the gaming pro variant? also wondering if you found a fix?
Cloud_Motion@reddit
Hi mate.
Yeah, it's the gaming pro.
And no, I never found a fix even with replacement fans, it's still loud as shit when the fans kick in at 30% every time.
My recommendation is get a refund if you're able to.
PotentialExact4226@reddit
I haven’t bought it yet, I was debating whether to get it or just get the zotac sff model for like 80 cheaper
PotentialExact4226@reddit
Thanks for the reply though. I feel like that noise would probably drive me crazy. Might just avoid palit this time around
Cloud_Motion@reddit
It's annoying as fuck. Wouldn't recommend.
I mean, the card's pretty great as you'd expect but the fans or whatever's going on with them sucks absolute ass.
Palit's response has just been "buy new fans". It's lame as hell.
MML79@reddit
If the noisy is mainly when the fans start just make a fan curve where they never turn off. My 2080 Gigabyte card had an issue where the fans struggled to start ("huffing and puffing" trying to get going), and I just made a fan profile for them where they never turned off. Might help, but if they constantly make annoying noises then obviously that's not a solution.
Cloud_Motion@reddit
Fans are loud as hell when they're on as well, but appreciate the advice.
ADHUS13@reddit
Bro I had the same annoying sound on 5090 Palit Gamerock :( But it's louder than yours
Cloud_Motion@reddit
Yeah it's a massive shame, Palit isn't "cheap" on account of the 40/50 series chipsets just being expensive as fuck, but they're definitely on the cheaper side.
I'd personally never buy or recommend Palit again.
Their customer support is honestly pretty solid at replying, but the answer basically comes down to we don't know/can't fix it/that's just how it is/buy some third party fans from AliExpress.
Well I did that last one, and those sound just as disgusting too.
Furthermore, I wouldn't waste your time googling this. I've looked for an answer for probably 40 hours over the last couple of years and I can guarantee there's unfortunately no fix.
ADHUS13@reddit
Yeah it seems unfixable. I've tried undervolting but the coil whine and fan noise remains, tried change psu to 1200 platinum and failed again. Massive upset. And this rofl "buy some third party fans from AliExpress" wanna ask them if they bought cheapest fans on AliExpress for their gpus)))
Cloud_Motion@reddit
Yeahh, it's a bit difficult to explain but it's almost like a grating sound the instant the fans turn on? I'm not sure about yours but the fans on mine are either 0 or 30% and above (rarely), and the second either fan turns on it emits that groaning/brring noise. I don't like it but I've gotten used to it. It's also super noticeable because the rest of my system runs whisper quiet. I've tried custom fan curves but they're mostly ignored, as soon as I go above 60c either one or both fans come on and cue the groaning noise.
It's as if the fans themselves aren't that loud, but whatever motor is driving them is fucked. I'm not sure.
I emailed Palit a year or so ago I think but I can't remember exactly what they said, it was basically a no go.
If you're curious, I can send you a video of the fans in action, see if it's similar to yours.
Iaowv@reddit
Late reply but I bought one at launch that made this noise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEI_VA-tAAw
That was me turning the fans on and off at 30% fan speed. I don't know if that's normal or not, but it was far too obnoxious for me so I sent it back as soon as I could and have replaced it with a Gigabyte Gaming OC which while not absolutely perfect is much, much better.
Muted-Green-2880@reddit
My 5070ti gamingpro is worse than that. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/v6h8oz9jh59evlvhc1o38/20250812_191052.mp4?rlkey=2voqpspzvatqfrtznpp7e5xhx&st=5uumz1wj&dl=0
Thats mine, I've had it for 3 months and can't stand it anymore, I sent it back 2 weeks hoping they'll refund me. I really hope they do because its unbearable
Iaowv@reddit
Yep, had a whole bunch of people respond to me on reddit and YouTube reporting very similar or the same issues, all with Palit cards.
Hope you can get a refund or something worked out, I sent it back after the first weekend thankfully. Won't be touching Palit again it's fair to say lol.
Muted-Green-2880@reddit
Yeah I'm not going near that brand ever again. Not sure why they have such a poor design for their cooling. It cools well enough but the sound it makes doing it truly disgusting lol. I have a bad feeling I won't get a refund and the last 2 weeks of waiting will have been for nothing lol. I'll report back when I find out 🤣
Rukasu17@reddit
I glued myself to my speakers and couldn't hear anything besides the mouse clicks
littlelordfuckpant5@reddit
Found this on Google but definitely a skill issue if you can't hear that.
Iaowv@reddit
If you can't hear the abnormally loud revving sound as the fans turn on and off even when the volume is up either your speakers are rubbish or you might want to see a doctor about your ears, lol.
Rukasu17@reddit
Nah. I had dragon ball playing at the same time and i could hear the studio noise with my speakers. But absolutely nothing besides clicking from the video.
Iaowv@reddit
Can't help you then, lol. There's an audible noise from the fans when they turn on, including an audible click. Had a bunch of people watch that video since I posted it and comment they've heard the same noise from their Palit/Gainward cards too.
Rukasu17@reddit
I'll have to wait for me to get home and put the video on my expensive sound system.
WlanPasswort@reddit
My 5070 TI has exactly that sound too, and I can hear it through my headphones while listening to music. It's very annoying. I'm also thinking about sending it back and replacing it with a Gigabyte Gaming OC, is it worth it and how good are your temps with the Gigabyte one? Does the Gigabyte design also have any annoying sound?
PotentialExact4226@reddit
Was it the gamerock or the gaming pro version?
WlanPasswort@reddit
It's the GameRock version
Iaowv@reddit
I have the 5080 Gaming OC so I don't know if the 5070 Ti model is the same, but it's been great for me since I got it at the end of Feb.
I have it undervolted at 0.925 and overclocked to 3ghz with +1000 memory on the memory and it's been rock solid. Rarely goes above 60c even in the most demanding games and that's at the min fan speed of 30%, which is slightly audible but nothing louder than a case fan. If it goes above 30% fan speed it's a bit more audible but nothing annoying especially with headphones on and I have a fixed 30% fan speed profile in MSI Afterburner tied to a hotkey in any case, cause again it's still barely hittin 60c in these circumstances so plenty of temperature headroom.
The only bad thing of note about this card I'd say is there's some slightly audible coil whine at high frame rates (100+) especially when at high/native resolutions, but with headphones on I can't hear it at all.
Overall I've been really happy with it, it's quiet, cool and has been rock solid with my undervolt/overclock.
If your card has the same noise as I had I'd send it back 100%. It's an awful noise that at the price we pay for these GPU's is completely unacceptable IMO.
WlanPasswort@reddit
I really appreciate you responding to me so soon!
Initially, I was looking for the most quiet card on the market, bc I'm very sensitive to that kind of distracting sounds and I also have a overall very quiet rig. And so I thought that pallit has the biggest cooling designs and that they are really quiet, which I now found out, they aren't.
I wasn't sure if I'm too hypercritical about that card, but as I see, im not the only one. 😅
For me, coil whining shouldn't be a problem since I'm only playing at 60fps, and the noise gets filtered out by my headphones anyway.
And I agree with you. I almost paid 950€ for the card, and for that price, it normally shouldn't be acceptable.
Thank you really much for the detailed response, and im now looking forward to replacing it with a Gigabyte one. Have a nice day! :)

I assume you mean this.

Yes, it sounds very similar, but it seems even noisier than mine. I guess we can ‘close the case,’ as it’s not a defect but rather a feature
starvedhorror@reddit
Yeah, that happens across their entire 40 series range (1, 2, 3) with the exception of the Classic variant of Gamerock (4). I assumed they would fix it in the 50, but apparently not.
Muted-Green-2880@reddit
Mine is like that , maybe slightly louder. I've sent mine back ( 2 weeks ago now ) but if this is just how they're meant to be then I guess I'm out of luck and it will be sent back. The youtuber TechYes showed the fan noise of the gamingpro and it wasnt anywhere near as loud as mine, although mines the v1 model which had the vapour chamber replaced with copper. I'd never ever buy palit again thats for sure, can't stand the noise it makes
ADHUS13@reddit
Yeah very similiar sound on my Palit 5090 Gamerock. Garbage..
littlelordfuckpant5@reddit
Yep, I'm here from Google. Very upset by this for the price.
ADHUS13@reddit
Mine is also doesnt want to undervol
littlelordfuckpant5@reddit
Seems to make zero difference to me. If the fan is on, it's making that noise.
ADHUS13@reddit
Sry I forgot to mention that mine has coil whine also
littlelordfuckpant5@reddit
Mine does too but I can tune that out thankfully
ADHUS13@reddit
What's your params for UV?
littlelordfuckpant5@reddit
Not sure to be honest because the vibrating drowns it out anyway.
gorbash212@reddit
Yep ive noticed this with my 5070ti gamerock as well.. a fast clicking sound, mines at low speed.
On mine its specifically from the middle fan.
The reflective shroud is just a decoration so i've moved it about a bit with my finger and the noise is gone. buildapc at its best :P

I'm stuck with the same problem. Retailer said it's ok card and Palit webpage said optimized for silence. So I bought the card and fan noise is driving me insane. I've tested fans separately 2 fans make the grinding sound and 3rd fan (where cut out is) is fine. I retailer denied a refund since card was used and offered RMA. I've sent card to RMA and waiting it to return. Reading this post does not make me very hopeful for solution.
I've made video of this issue (fans start spinning at 0:12)

Hello. I had the same bearing noise, and I ended up deshrouding mine, removing the fans, and using Noctua A14x25 fans against the heatsink.
Be warned, you have to remove the card and X-clamp to remove the front shroud, however I'm glad I did as the paste job wasn't great. After repasting and putting the Noctua fans on it, I now get amazing temperatures and acoustic efficiency.
Ghokury@reddit
So, do you need to fully disassemble the card, or can you remove the shroud just by taking out the screws on it?
Did you need to use a long screwdriver for this?
Rodpad@reddit
Fully disassemble I'm afraid. It's quite easy though.
Zestyclose_Plenty_82@reddit
HI I have the RTX 5080 gaming pro version and the sound is driving me crazy! Never deshrouded a card before - any chance you can point me to a guide / pictures on how best to do this?
Rodpad@reddit
You basically have to disassemble the whole thing (including the heatsink mount) just to get access to the fans and all shroud screws. No guide, I just YOLO'd it.
I'm afraid I can't remember the order of disassembly now, sorry.
Quadrotes@reddit
Same shit in MSI Vanguard. I upload this also on YouTube. MSI Vanguard 5080 Fan Noise/Problem

Palit 5070 ti gamerock, same really annoying buzzing sound. Probably will replace them with noctuas when i'm fed up with this.
scsonicshadow@reddit
Got a 5070ti Palit Gamerock, same revving noise. I think it's just a characteristic of palit GPUs. I use open back headphones but since I come from a laptop these noises don't bother me much. I don't think this is a defect.
SnooCompliments5439@reddit
Idk if it’s any help. But I got My case/fans/CPU from “Be Quiet!” now I barely hear anything. (5080 aswell)
kirichensky@reddit (OP)
I can’t shake the thought that I’m being overly critical and that this is just a characteristic of the GPU’s operation, but what if someone else has encountered the same issue
PotentialExact4226@reddit
Any update? Also would you hear the sound with a headset on?
kirichensky@reddit (OP)
No, it’s still noisy, but I don’t pay attention on it already. In headset I hear nothing at all
SnooCompliments5439@reddit
Yea, eventually it’s up yo you to return it. Getting a different GPU might satisfy maybe it won’t. Another “solution” might be to invest in sound isolating headset. Just trying to help :-)
Funkyslol@reddit
It's the heat dude i mean thermal expansion related if you run it like 30s or 40 it makes sound but it wont after like 50°C in game i hear nothing at all the bios itself not gonna run it untill 60°C anyways weird but this is the case. I also wont reccomend goin further %40 speed because there is no point unless you are trying to oc stuff and make some records etc.
LaFolieDeLaNuit@reddit
Got my Palit 5070ti today and the fan motor noise is so obnoxious haha, 100% returning. Didn’t know how good I had it with my previous GPU!
DevilQuality@reddit
I dont think mine is doing that, however the coil whine on this thing is insane.
DarthMarv92@reddit
I got the same sound on my gpu fans, first thought it was rattle from vibration against the ssd cooler of my motherboard but I dampened that and it's clearly the fans. I'm seriously thinking about going full water and just put a block on it, alphacool will have some nice blocks for 200€ soon.
Jockel1893@reddit
I got a Palit Jetstream 4080 and also quite noisy compared to my 3070 FE
Next time I would go with a different brand.
Zarmr@reddit
I have the exact same card and I have the same problem. But only two fans have this sound on my card so even though they are probably not considered faulty, not all of them have this "feature". I am thinking about replacing them in future..
kirichensky@reddit (OP)
Why aren’t you considering the possibility of warranty service? Or are such issues not covered, like coil whine, for example?
Zarmr@reddit
Well because it could be a long process and in case they give me my money back I won't be able to buy another 5080 for it.. so I will live with it for now.
Also from what I've read it could go either way, it can be acknowledged as a defect or not, so the outcome is uncertain..
