OC 13900K or OC 14700K, and what motherboard would you recommend? (UK)

My motherboard recently fried, and that has give me an excuse to upgrade to a more modern CPU from my 10700kf since I planned on doing that relatively soon anyway. Id like to overclock or undervolt my next CPU (haven't looked into it yet), so I'm looking at a z690, specifically the ASROCK Z690 Steel legend. Is the VRM good for one of the cpus above, and which CPU should I get? I can get a used 13900k for £300 with a 5 year warranty, while the 14700k would cost me £340 new, and I've heard there's not much difference from @0th gen i7 and 14th gen i7.

No idea where you got this information from but it's bullshit. The 14700 is in a whole other league compared to the 10700K, by merit of having 12 cores more alone, not to mention significantly higher boost Clock and severely improved IPC, according to CPU Passmark benchmarks the 14700 is about 50% more performant in single thread tasks

I use my pc primarily for gaming and when using comparison sites I see the 14700k out perform it by around 30%. I don't really want to upgrade without getting at least a 50% increase on performance (aswell as the ability to overclock), and from what I've seen that's not the case, which is why I looked at the 13th gen i9. Please correct me if I'm wrong because I really hope I am, and could you send me the link to the site to show me the comparison? 🙏

Lol, why are you even considering Intel when this is primarily for gaming?
Intel has clearly stated that they will not incorporate 3D cache into their chips and will not attempt to compete with AMD.
There is no better gaming CPU than a 9800X3D, and buying Intel primarily for gaming just makes no sense, their chips are objectively worse and this will not change in the near future (next 10 years) unless AMD somehow majorly falls off out of nowhere or Intel magically leaps ahead.
7800X3D competes with the 14900K while consuming 60-80 watts, reaches peak performance with only 6000 MHz RAM and is on a platform that will see at least one more CPU gen (11800X3D will be the new best gaming CPU around 2026/2027)

Don't get me wrong, I'd love a 9800x3D, but I don't have the budget for that chip. Moving to amd in general is more costly for me because I'd have to move over to ddr5 and get rid of my 4 sticks of ddr4, and and motherboards and chips are more pricey in general. I'll look into it but I don't think it's within my budget, especially considering that an almost 2 generation old 7900x3D is £80 more than the 14700kf

Simple 7800x3d + B650 will fuck every single Intel CPU, i do use 14700K and my 240mm struggles but without throttling on default bios with 0x12b, hits 85-90°c easily with 150-200w powerdraw, I'm bout to tune it tomorrow

All these additional cores don't matter for gaming so 30% sounds about right
That being said I would stay clear of intel and go with AMD, r5 7600 or x3d chip if your budget allows

You really should not OC 13th and 14th gen. I believe they are now safe to go with as long as you keep your BIOS up to date. I would not OC them, however.
